Chapter 6
Chapter 6 — 47 Days of Betrayal, I Turned the Game Over
Lawyer Tran has an unread message.
"Miss To, there is news in Vancouver that your husband's location has been determined."
I immediately called back.
“Richmond area, Vancouver, a residential area, investigators took pictures of him going in and out.”
“What about my daughter, have you seen her?”
“Yes, a little girl wearing a pink backpack came along, her mental condition seems to be fine.”
Tears welled up in my eyes immediately. My daughter.
“Does she go to school?”
"Not confirmed yet, the investigation is continuing to monitor, and there is one more thing."
“The apartment in Vancouver is in both of our names.”
“Lam Tri Vien… and Chu Uyen.”
I tightened the phone case. He used my money... to buy a house abroad for himself and the other woman.
“Lawyer Tran, can I get this money back?”
"If you can prove that the source of money to buy the house is marital property, you can request division in the divorce case, but because the property is in a foreign country, the procedure will be complicated."
“How complicated is it?”
"It must go through the judicial support mechanism between the two countries. The time can last from half a year to a year."
“Then one year.”
"Okay. One more thing, your husband may already know that he is wanted."
“What was his reaction?”
"The investigation discovered that recently he kept changing his phone number, and the range of movement also narrowed, almost only around the house and nearby supermarket, seemingly trying to hide."
“Can he escape?”
"No. Once an international arrest warrant is issued, the Canadian side has an obligation to cooperate. It just takes time, you have to be patient."
I rolled down the car window. The dark wind blew in, cold but very awake. I closed my eyes. Tieu Hoa, mom will definitely come to pick you up. Returning to my parents' house, my mother placed a bowl of snow-ear tea in front of me.
“Nien An, eat something.”
I took a sip.
“Mom, we found Tieu Hoa.”
She immediately held my hand tightly.
"Where? Is the baby okay?"
“In Vancouver, the investigation took the photo, it looks fine.”
Mother's tears fell again.
“It's okay… it's okay…”
Dad walked out of the office.
“If you find it, take it back immediately!”
“Dad, this matter involves international law, it takes time.”
“Maybe a few months.”
He slammed his hand on the table.
"A few months? She's only seven years old!"
“I'm also impatient, but I can't do it haphazardly.”
He sat down, sighed for a long time, then said only one sentence.
“Nien An, you have suffered.”
I didn't reply. Just bow your head and drink the entire bowl of tea. That night, sitting in front of the window looking out at the night, I made a decision. I can't just wait for others to help. I had to go to Vancouver myself. The next morning, I went to the company to meet Ngo Chan Vu.
"Chan Vu, I will complete the Hai Duong Loan plan this week. The detailed implementation will be left to Tieu Luu. I need to go abroad."
“Vancouver.”
He looked at me.
“Looking for a girl?”
I nodded. He was silent for a moment.
“Not sure, maybe a week, maybe longer.”
“What about the plan report?”
"I participate via video, I will discuss with Han Chinh myself."
He thought for a few more seconds.
“Go ahead, I'll look after the company.”
“No need to thank me, bring her home.”
I returned to my office, edited the drawing and booked plane tickets. Tieu Luu knocked on the door and entered.
“Sister To, I heard you are going abroad?”
“Is there anything you need me to do?”
“Arrange all Hai Duong Loan documents, date I'll hand it over to you tomorrow. There's also the application for last week's award, remember to follow the deadline."
“Yes. Ms. To…”
“I will definitely bring Tieu Hoa back.”
I looked at him.
“Of course.”
Before leaving, I met lawyer Tran again. His office is located in the central area, the walls are full of certificates, but the people are very simple.
“Miss To, I have no objection to you personally going to Vancouver, but there are a few points to note.”
He raised his hand and counted each thing.
"First, don't alert me. Your husband is alert now. If he knows you're coming, he can continue moving."
"Second, do not contact voluntarily, all communication must be through a lawyer. If he suggests mediation, do not agree immediately."
"Third, do not take your child away without permission, even though you are the mother, but in Canada, that act can still be considered kidnapping."
"I get it."
“Fourth, when you get there, meet the investigation team first. David has made arrangements for you.”
He stopped for a moment.
“Fifth… Ms. To, I know you are very anxious, but the focus is not on finding your husband, but on bringing your daughter back legally, this matter cannot be rushed.”
"I know."
