Chapter 2
Chapter 2 — After three years of pretending to be mute and deaf to save my life, I married the talkative Crown Prince
Apparently the king found a human-shaped spittoon for his own son. After the eunuch gave instructions to leave, the entire palace maids' room simultaneously looked towards me. In their eyes there was pity, secret joy, and also deep sadness for my future life. A young palace maid secretly stuffed two cotton balls into my hand. I lowered my head to look at those two cotton balls, not daring to tell her that I don't lack this thing. What I lack is a head strong enough to endure the Crown Prince's continuous torture for three days and three nights. That evening, the Queen summoned me. The person held my hand, his eyes filled with deep meaning.
"Child, I'm making things difficult for you."
I closed my eyes and didn't say a word. Someone gently patted the back of my hand.
"But maybe this is a good thing."
My fingertips trembled slightly. The Queen saw. He didn't say anything more, just put an old silver hairpin in my hair. I recognize that brooch. It used to belong to my mother. I suddenly raised my head. But the Queen turned away.
"Go back and prepare for marriage."
Stepping out of Phuong Nghi palace, my back was drenched in cold sweat. The Queen must know something about my father's death. And this marriage is absolutely not simply to punish the Crown Prince. On the big wedding day, the Crown Prince arrived late. Not intentionally trying to preempt me. Instead, his uniform was caught on the door step. He quickly pulled it out, resulting in a rip two meters long. The general manager of Dong Cung knelt on the ground, so impatient that his head was covered in sweat. The Crown Prince stood outside the palace and said coldly:
"What are you panicking about? Get a needle and thread and sew it together."
The general manager carefully reminded:
"Your Highness, the tear is right behind the waist. If you want stitches, you better take it off."
The prince was silent for a moment.
"You mean you want me to take off my pants in front of the whole palace on the day of the wedding?"
The general manager bowed his head to the ground.
"The slave doesn't dare."
"My mouth said I wouldn't dare, but I took out the needle and thread."
I wore a red veil and sat on the bed, my shoulders shaking. Lady Hi next to me quickly supported me.
"Don't be afraid, Your Highness, he just spoke a little loudly."
I don't have to be afraid. I couldn't help but laugh until my ribs hurt. Half an hour later, the Crown Prince finally walked in. He dismissed everyone, then lifted my veil. Four eyes looked at each other. This is the first time we have clearly seen this talkative Crown Prince who shook the court at such a close distance. The eyebrows are bright, the bridge of the nose is high and straight. If he did not open his mouth, he would indeed have some of the majesty of a military commander. Unfortunately... He has a mouth.
"Is she To Ham Chuong?"
I nodded.
"Can't you hear?"
I continued to nod.
"Can't say it either?"
I nodded again. The Crown Prince stared at me for a long time, then suddenly raised his hand and snapped his fingers right next to my ear. I prepared in advance, not even blinking my eyes. He circled behind me again and patted me hard twice. I bowed my head and looked at the tip of my shoe. The Crown Prince still hasn't given up. He picked up the tea cup on the table and threw it hard on the ground. With a bang, porcelain pieces scattered. My breathing is still not erratic. Having pretended to be deaf and mute for three years, this little scene is nothing. Don't say smashing cups. Last year, there was a palace maid who, wanting to test me, stood behind me and shouted: "It's on fire!" Yet we still sit still and do not move. In the end, half the room actually burned down. Arrive Even a lock of my hair was burned by the fire. The Crown Prince finally gave up. He sat back on the edge of the bed and sighed.
"Your father really knows how to choose someone for you."
"There are so many girls in the capital, but you always choose the one who can't hear you."
"That's right. She won't hear anything you say, so it won't bother you."
I look at him. He waved his hand at me.
"Don't misunderstand, I'm not criticizing her."
"I just feel like maybe my father doesn't like her very much."
The corner of my mouth almost twitched. His eyes... really looked perfect. The prince poured a cup of wine and tilted his head back to drink it all. After drinking, his mouth could no longer stop.
"Do you know why those nine old men resigned?"
I quietly looked at him.
"Don't know, right? Let me tell you."
"The king's doctor played the harp every day in an extravagant and wasteful way. Yet in his palace, even the urinal was encrusted with gold rims. She only ate one more bowl of bird's nest, and he was already heartbroken, wishing he could rush into the Dong Palace and grab her throat to make her vomit."
"The maid, Bo Le, said she didn't know how to respect the master. He collected tuition fees for ethnic studies, a fee that was collected three times, making poor children not even able to enter the door."
"As for Tu Kinh Chi of the Ministry of Households, he always says he is loyal to the army and loves the people. When Ha Dong encountered floods, his sister-in-law immediately bought three thousand acres of land on the outskirts of the capital."
