Chapter 24 — Back Before The Wedding Day

Updated 10/08/2026 6 min read

One week after Ms. Kim Chi temporarily withdrew from her executive position, the inspection agency officially announced the initial investigation conclusions. The entire project team was summoned to the large meeting room to hear the official announcement from the group's interim leadership.

"After the investigation process," the interim vice president said in a solemn tone, "the authorities have determined that there are enough grounds for serious violations in using group assets for the wrong purpose, through non-transparent capital contribution transactions with a number of outside individuals and organizations. Ms. Kim Chi will be officially suspended from all executive positions, waiting for the final handling conclusion from the competent authorities."

The entire meeting room was silent, the atmosphere was heavy but also mixed with a secretly spreading relief. Khanh Linh sat between Bao Ngoc and Lam Quoc Bao, clearly feeling Bao Ngoc's hand shaking slightly with emotion, while Lam Quoc Bao quietly squeezed her hand under the table, a discreet but warm gesture of comfort.

After the meeting, Khanh Linh was privately invited into the new vice president's temporary office. "Miss Linh," he said, his voice sincere, "the board of directors greatly appreciates your courage and integrity throughout the recent incident. We hope you will continue to accompany the group in the upcoming restructuring period, with a larger role if you desire."

"I thank the management for your trust," Khanh Linh replied, considering carefully before answering. "But I need time to think about my career direction in the near future."

The vice president nodded in understanding. "Just think carefully, the door here is always open for you whenever you're ready. We understand, after everything that's happened, you deserve time to consider the path that best suits you."

Leaving the meeting room, she found Bao Ngoc, and the two went to the familiar balcony area, a place that had witnessed many important conversations over the past year.

"Do you think everything will return to normal?" Bao Ngoc asked, his eyes still a little confused at the great changes that had just happened.

"I'm not sure things will be 'normal' the old way anymore," Khanh Linh replied, her voice thoughtful. "But I believe, we can build something better from this rubble. Have you thought about what you want to do next?"

"I think I want to continue working in the design industry, but maybe I need a new start, in a place that isn't associated with so many painful memories like this," Bao Ngoc replied, her voice thoughtful. "What about you?"

Khanh Linh was silent for a moment, looking out at the city below, her mind reeling with thoughts that had been silently forming for many weeks. "I think, maybe it's time for me to build something of my own," she said, her eyes gradually lighting up with a new determination. "An independent fashion brand, not dependent on any corporation, where I can freely pursue the values I believe in, without having to worry about the plots and calculations hidden behind."

"Sounds great," Bao Ngoc said, eyes lighting up with excitement. "If you really do it, I'd love to accompany you, if you don't mind."

"I would be very happy to have you accompany me," Khanh Linh replied, smiling Thanh, hold your hand tightly. The two of them stood there, looking out at the vast city below, together sketching the first outlines of a completely new future, where their friendship would continue to be built on a foundation of trust and mutual respect.

In the evening, when Khanh Linh told Lam Quoc Bao this idea over the phone, he was silent for a while before speaking, his voice full of support. "I think it's a great decision. You have talent, vision, and now, you have proven your courage to face the biggest challenges. If you need someone to support you financially and invest, I am very willing."

"Thank you," Khanh Linh replied, feeling a warmth spread throughout her heart. "I think, this will be a new journey full of challenges, but this time, I believe I am strong enough to face whatever lies ahead." She looked out the office window, imagining a small design studio with her own name, where the values she pursues can freely shine without being obscured by any calculations.

"I trust you," he replied, his voice gentle but firm. "And I will always be here, accompanying you on that journey, whether as a business partner, or..." he hesitated for a moment, "or any other role you desire."

Khanh Linh felt her heart beat faster at that meaningful sentence, a feeling of warmth and happiness crept throughout her body that she had never experienced so completely in her two lifetimes. "I want that too," she replied softly, her voice shaking with emotion, revealing some of her true feelings that she had been trying to suppress for a long time.

"So," Lam Quoc Bao said, his voice unable to hide the rare nervousness, "when everything has calmed down, I can invite you to dinner, not to discuss business, but simply... a real date, okay?"

Khanh Linh laughed lightly at that lovely hesitation, feeling her heart warmer than ever. "I'm looking forward to it," she replied, her voice gentle.

That weekend, as promised, Lam Quoc Bao took Khanh Linh to a cozy little restaurant on the shore of the lake, where shimmering lights reflected on the still water. There are no more conversations revolving around evidence, conspiracies, or legal strategies, only two people are left who are gradually opening their hearts to each other, sharing simple stories about childhood, about their most private dreams and ambitions.

"I used to think that after my old company went bankrupt, I would never fully trust anyone again," Lam Quoc Bao shared, his eyes looking distantly at the lake. "But from the day I met you, I realized that there are people who are still worthy of my trust, no matter how many attempts and betrayals this world has."

"Me too," Khanh Linh replied, gently holding his hand on the table, her eyes filled with sincerity. "You showed me that not every relationship needs to be careful and cautious. There are people who, if only met at the right time and in the right circumstances, will become the strongest fulcrum in your life."

The sunset gradually falls, dyeing the entire lake surface in warm orange, creating a completely romantic scene for the moment the two officially admit their feelings for each other. After many months of companionship, side by side overcoming many of the harshest challenges.

That evening, when Khanh Linh returned home, she couldn't help but share the good news with her mother, her face beaming with happiness that was hard to hide. "Mom, I think, I have found someone who is really suitable for me."

Mrs. Hanh, sitting sewing next to the warm yellow light, looked up at her daughter, her eyes shining with joy. "It's Mr. Bao, right? I've felt it for a long time, he always looks at you with respectful eyes, different from..." she hesitated, not wanting to repeat Dang Khoa's name in this happy moment.

"Yes, it's him," Khanh Linh replied, sitting down next to her mother, resting her head on her shoulder like when she was a child. "I feel that this time, I chose the right person at the right time."

"I'm happy for you," Mrs. Hanh said, hugging her daughter tightly, her voice filled with emotion. "After all the troubles you've been through recently, you deserve complete happiness like this."

Mother and daughter sat embracing each other in a small, warm room, the soft yellow light illuminating the space, closing a meaningful day with both lifted burdens and new, hopeful beginnings waiting ahead.

Before going to bed, Khanh Linh opened the notebook and wrote the last words for an important chapter in her journey: "Mrs. Kim Chi has been officially suspended from her position. Bao Ngoc has found herself. Dang Khoa has chosen to stand on the side of truth. And I... I have found true happiness, something I never dared to dream of in my previous life." She closed the notebook, looked out the window where the moonlight gently shone, filled with gratitude for a journey that taught her that sometimes, a second chance is not only to correct old mistakes, but also to build better things, far beyond what she dared to dream of in her previous life.
