Chapter 4
Chapter 4 — Becoming One with the Devil
The bed at the orphanage was always very hard, the blanket was thin, and in the winter she often woke up freezing cold. The aunts were very busy and didn't have time to take care of the little girl. Even if she cried, no one came to comfort her. After that, she cried less, because crying was useless. But my arms are now very warm. The girl snuggled up, buried her face in the woman's shirt, and soon fell asleep. In the corner of the living room, the girl with the ponytail lowered her voice and asked the guy in the checkered shirt: "Did you see that? That woman... just now patted the baby, her movements were very gentle." ” I see.” The checkered guy frowned, "It could be a trap. Intentionally acting warm to make us let down our guard." "But..." The girl hesitated, "She's really just a baby, only a few months old. Even if this is a game, it's too..." "Too what?" The man in the leather jacket stepped forward and growled, "The saint's illness has come back again? I tell you, there are no innocent people in this game. That child is also a player, just like us. He's just lucky so he's not dead for the time being, doesn't mean he can live to the end. If you want to take care of him, take care of it yourself, don't drag us along." The ponytailed girl fell silent. But her eyes still unconsciously glanced at the round lump of flesh in the woman's arms. Sleep well. Not knowing where I was, not knowing what the hell was around. Lam Niem was awakened by a noise. Opening her eyes, she discovered she was lying on the sofa, covered with a small fur blanket. The pile of internal organs on the chair had been cleaned up and replaced with a new, clean mattress. The living room was very dark, with only a small night light on. The sound came from the dining room. Lam Niem turned over, tried to raise her small head, and looked in that direction. There is a person standing next to the dining table. It's a woman wearing a floral dress. She turned her back to Lam Niem and was chopping something, her movements were very slow and steady. The knife hit the cutting board, making regular "clack" sounds. Next to him there was another person. It's a teenager wearing a white hoodie. He stood hidden in the darkness, not moving at all, his gray eyes staring in one direction. Lam Niem followed his eyes. It's on the other side of the living room. Seven players are huddled in a corner, some covering their mouths, some with pale faces, all looking towards the dining table. Lam Niem didn't know what they were looking at. The girl only found that "clack" sound very pleasant, like the sound of the aunts chopping vegetables at the orphanage before. After listening for a while, she felt sleepy again. But before she could close her eyes, she saw another scene. The door opens. A man entered. He was very tall, very muscular, wearing dark work clothes, carrying a black bag in his hand. The bag contained something very heavy, dragging on the floor, creating a long trail. The woman didn't even turn around: "Are you back?" " YES." The man groaned and threw the bag on the ground. The mouth of the bag loosened, revealing what was inside... A hand. Attached to the arm, severed from the shoulder blade, the skin was pale white, and a silver ring was still worn on the finger. In the corner of the room, someone let out a choked scream, then quickly covered his mouth tightly. The man walked to the dining table and took the knife from her hand Ladies, start processing the contents of your bag. Lam Niem blinked and stared at that arm for a long time. The girl found that arm somewhat familiar. It seemed that when eating, an uncle in the group used this arm to pick up food. But why is that arm in the pocket? The girl didn't understand. All I know is that that uncle has disappeared. But the girl quickly stopped thinking, because her attention was drawn to the sticky substance on the man's face. It's red. Flowing from the forehead down to the chin, sticky residue smeared half of the face. Lam Niem didn't know it was blood, she only saw that this person's face was dirty. She had seen this kind of "dirty" before. When she was at the orphanage, there was an aunt who often fed her rice. Every time she finished feeding her, there were a few grains of rice on her face. Lam Niem would reach out to help her aunt, and she would smile and praise her for being a good girl. Now this person's face is also dirty. Lam Niem twisted his body, flipped over and fell from the sofa, his butt touching the ground first, making a "thump" sound. It doesn't hurt, she's used to it. Then, the girl began to crawl in that direction. Crawling very slowly. The distance from the sofa to the dining table, for her, is very far, very far. But she didn't care, she just wanted to help that person clean his face. The other seven adults saw the girl. ”What does it do?” The ponytail girl lowered her voice. "I don't know... crawl to your death?" "Should we stop it?" "Are you crazy? Go stop it!" Lam Niem did not hear those sounds. The little girl put all her mind into crawling forward. By the time she reached the edge of the dining table, the man had just put down the knife and turned around. He bowed his head and saw a lump of flesh right at his feet. Lam Niem raised her head and grinned at him. The man was stunned. His eyes were also gray, grayer than the other boy's, like pebbles at the bottom of a stagnant puddle, without a single ray of light. But at this moment, a trace of confusion flashed in those eyes. The next second, Lam Niem reached out his tiny hand, grabbed his pant leg, and began to climb up. Climbing is very difficult. The man's legs were too long, the little girl's small arms and legs couldn't hold on at all. She climbed two steps and then fell down. She climbed two more steps and then fell down. But the girl didn't give up, her mouth was screaming with force. The woman stood next to him, watching, not moving. The teenager also stepped out of the shadows and stood to one side, observing. The man bent down to look at the small creature trying to climb on him, was silent for a few seconds, then bent down and picked her up. Lam Niem finally entered his heart. The little girl reached out her small hands and slapped him on the face. The man's gray eyeballs turned away, staring at the girl. Lam Niem used his fleshy fingers to wipe away the red stains on his face little by little. The little girl wiped very focused, mumbling as she wiped: "Hey... ah... uh..." After wiping her left cheek, she wiped her right cheek, finished wiping her forehead, and wiped her chin again.
