Chapter 14
Chapter 14 — Behind the 50cm Wall Is a Secret
“Where is the money?”
No beating around the bush. The eyes behind the dark glasses— Glued to the suitcase next to me.
“Where are the documents?”
I asked again. I looked straight at her, not backing down. Ly Tinh reached into the inside pocket of his coat, took out an envelope, and threw it on the table.
“It's all in there.”
“I wrote the confession myself, every detail is very clear.”
I took the envelope, but didn't open it right away. With my other hand, I naturally placed the disguised "car key" on the table. The camera angle was also just right towards her.
“Before checking, let's count the money first.”
Ly Tinh said, reaching out to pull the suitcase towards her.
“No rush.”
I stopped her hand. Her hand was as cold as ice, without any warmth.
“Before proceeding, I would like to confirm a few more details.”
“Isn't it all written in there?” She was starting to lose patience.
“The written word is not the same as saying it with my own mouth, so I can rest assured.”
I smiled, a smile that hid the blade. My eyes glanced slightly at the child sleeping in her arms.
“For example… when you processed the scene, where was the child?”
“It's asleep.” Ly Tinh responded reflexively.
"You cut into the wall so big, it still doesn't wake up?" I continued to pile.
Every question I asked— Was leading her deeper.
“I gave him cold medicine, which has ingredients that cause drowsiness, and he slept very deeply.” She started to get upset.
“What about the ashtray?” I continued asking, "Where did you throw that weapon?"
“Throw it into the canal in the area!”
"What about the clothes from that day? Surely they were stained with blood?"
Ly Tinh suddenly realized something was wrong. My question— Too detailed. Just like… an interrogation.
“Why do you ask so many questions?!”
She jumped up, her eyes alert.
“Chu Vu, are you playing with me?”
I leaned back in my chair and slowly looked at her. The corners of his lips curled up.
“Just now realizing?”
“It's late.”
I picked up the "car key" and shook it gently.
“Every word you said—it's in here.”
“Ly Tinh, the game is over.”
At that moment— The coffee shop door opened. A few men in civilian clothes, solemn eyes, walked in quickly. The one taking the lead— It was the old police officer. Ly Tinh's face— In that moment— Pale white. Ly Tinh's face turned pale. The eyes behind the dark glasses opened wide, full of horror. She hugged the child tightly, her whole body trembling.
“Police… why…”
She muttered, her desperate eyes shifting from the police to me. No more intimidation. No more calculations. Resentment for being betrayed. I don't avoid that look. I calmly pushed the recorder towards the police.
“Sir, everything she just said is in here.”
“Including admitting to the act, and threatening me.”
The police took it and nodded. His eyes were a bit appreciative. Then, he turned to Ly Tinh. Cold gaze.
“She is suspected of being involved in a case of intentional murder and extortion.”
“Now, please follow us.”
His voice is not loud. But every word— Like a verdict.
“No! Not me!”
Ly Tinh suddenly screamed. Completely collapsed.
"It's her! It's Chu Vu!"
“She killed my husband!”
“She was the one who stuffed the body into the wall!”
"You guys capture her! You must capture her!"
She pointed straight at me. Struggling hopelessly. The child inside was awakened. Burst into tears. Crying— Tearing through the space of the shop. Also tore off Ly Tinh's last shell. A female police officer stepped forward. Gently but firmly— Pick up the child.
“Mom! I want you!”
The baby cried. Ly Tinh looked after— Her eyes gradually turned from madness to complete despair. She knew— It was over. She collapsed into the chair. Like a puppet with all its bones removed. Two policemen stepped forward. That sound— Like the end. For the entire war lasted several months. Ly Tinh was led away. As I passed by— She didn't look. Empty eyes. The policeman stepped in front of me, his face serious.
“Miss Chu, thank you for your cooperation and courage.”
“Now, we need you to return home with us.”
“To confirm… the final scene.”
I nodded and stood up. Legs are a bit soft. I followed them out of the cafe. The sunlight outside— Strangely dazzling. I vaguely thought— The war that started with four air conditioner heaters— Finally ended in such a bloody way. My house— Where I once built a fortress— Now torn open by my own hands. It's no longer home. Scene.
