Chapter 1
Chapter 1 — Eight Months Pregnant, I Realized My Baby Was Not Mine
When I was eight months pregnant, I realized the baby in my belly was not mine. That day, I went to the Luc family's hospital for a check-up at the end of my pregnancy. The nurse mistakenly gave me a file. It is clearly written on the records that the person providing the eggs for the baby is Lam Thanh Nghien. As for me, I'm just a surrogate mother. Lam Thanh Nghien. That was the white moon light that my husband, Luc Van Canh, hid abroad for three years. I took that file to look for him, and heard his voice outside the hospital room door.
“She's about to give birth, don't stimulate her.”
The doctor lowered his voice:
“But once the lady knows the truth, she may refuse to coordinate a cesarean section.”
Luc Van Canh's voice was very calm:
“She wouldn't do that.”
“She's been wanting this baby for so long, she won't be able to bear it.”
In the hospital room, Lam Thanh Nghien cried and asked:
“Van Canh, after the baby was born, did she refuse to give the baby back to you?”
Luc Van Canh whispered to her:
“It won't.”
“She just borrowed her belly for a little bit.”
“You are the baby's mother.”
I stood outside the door, each finger clenched tightly. It turned out that the morning sickness, the cramps, the stretch marks, the suffocating midnights I endured. It's not the price of motherhood. It's to make a wedding dress for another woman.

When the nurse pushed the door open, I closed the file and stuffed it in my bag. When she saw me, her face immediately turned pale.
“Lady Lu, why are you here?”
I lowered my head to touch my belly, the baby inside moved a little. Before, every time I had a baby, I immediately texted Luc Van Canh. He responded very slowly. 【Good girl, it's been hard for you.】 I used to think it was the husband's mercy for his wife. Now I know, it was the owner who was afraid the tank would be damaged. In the hospital room, Lam Thanh Nghien coughed two more times, Luc Van Canh almost immediately stood up.
“Don't cry, the doctor said you shouldn't be excited.”
“The baby is very healthy.”
“Just hold on a little longer, very soon I will be back with you.”
Very soon I will return to you. So what about me? In the first three months of my pregnancy, I vomited until my stomach bled. Luc Van Canh told the caretaker to watch me drink nutritional soup. He said:
“For the sake of the baby, I'll hold off a bit.”
I had calf cramps and woke up in pain in the middle of the night, so I called him. He picked up the phone, his voice filled with impatience:
“Khuong Chi, don't always be so weak.”
“Pregnancy is inherently difficult.”
That evening, Lam Thanh Nghien posted a photo of an infusion. The status line is: 【Some people say, I don't need to learn how to be strong.】 At that time, I was still stupid, thinking she was sick, and there was nothing wrong with him coming to visit. It wasn't until today that I realized I'm not the baby's mother. I was the uterus they chose after Lam Thanh Nghien could not get pregnant. The doctor's voice echoed in the room:
"General Luc, recently your blood pressure has not been stable, and the position of the placenta is also not good."
“If you have surgery early, the risk is very high.”
Luc Van Canh was silent for two seconds.
“Arrange the fastest time.”
“Thanh Nghien can't wait too long.”
The doctor hesitated:
“But Mrs. Luc's physical condition is not suitable right now.”
Luc Van Canh's voice turned cold:
“I invited you here to solve the risks, not to remind me of the risks.”
My hand is up belly, the baby kicked again. I suddenly felt nauseous. Not because of it. But because of this body, they actually planned it to this extent. The hospital room door was pulled open, Luc Van Canh saw me, and his steps stopped. His eyes first fell on my face, then fell on my bag.
“Why did you come here?”
I looked at him.
“Examine again.”
“The nurse said she had the wrong file.”
Lam Thanh Nghien poked her head out from behind him, her face pale, her eyes red.
“Miss Khuong, don't misunderstand.”
“It's all my fault.”
Luc Van Canh frowned and blocked her behind.
“Go inside and rest.”
After speaking, he reached out to support me.
“Khuong Chi, go home first.”
I avoided his hand. His hand stiffened in midair, his eyebrows gradually furrowed.
“What are you causing trouble again?”
Again. When I have morning sickness, I mess up. If I don't sleep, I mess up. I discovered that in the middle of the night, he went with Lam Thanh Nghien for a prenatal check-up, which was also what I did. I raised my head to look at him, my voice was very light:
"Luc Van Canh, whose child is this child?"
2
The hallway was immediately quiet. A flash of panic flashed in Luc Van Canh's eyes, but he was quickly suppressed.
“Who said bad things to you?”
I took out the file and brought it in front of him. I squeezed the paper until it wrinkled.
“Embryo code E-1736, egg supplier is Lam Thanh Nghien.”
“Luc Van Canh, do you want to explain?”
He looked at those words, his face finally changed. Lam Thanh Nghien held the door frame, tears falling quickly.
“Miss Khuong, sorry.”
“I didn't mean to hide it from you.”
“The doctor said I can't get pregnant again in this life.”
“Van Canh just wants to help me keep a child.”
She cried like a victim, but every sentence and every word was reminding me: The baby I was pregnant with for eight months belonged to her. Luc Van Canh reached out to take the file away.
“Go back and talk.”
“In a crowded hospital, don't lose face.”
I burst out laughing.
“Losing face?”
“You tricked me into doing an embryo transfer, tricked me into taking pregnancy pills, tricked me into thinking this was our child.”
“Now you say I'm embarrassing you?”
His expression darkened.
“Khuong Chi, initially I also wanted to have children.”
“Before the embryo transfer surgery, I asked you.”
I stared at him.
“You asked if it was our child.”
“Not her child.”
He was silent for a moment. At that moment, I understood everything. He knew, he knew from the beginning. Knowing that I touch the belly every day and give the baby a friendly name. Know that I painted the baby's room light yellow. Know me stitch by stitch when knitting small socks. He saw it all. Then let me be a joke and instead of his white moon light, raise the children. Lam Thanh Nghien cried and grabbed his sleeve.
"Van Canh, don't blame Ms. Khuong."
“She just wants to be a mother so much.”
Luc Van Canh immediately lowered his head to look at her.
“Don't say any more.”
His voice is so light that it doesn't sound like him. I remember a month ago, I was taken to the emergency room because of uterine contractions, and the nurse asked my family to sign. He still hasn't arrived. Later I found out that it was Lam Thanh Nghien's birthday, he went with her to the riverbank to watch the fireworks. I was in so much pain that cold sweat covered my body. When he comes running, first verse first is:
“Isn't it okay?”
“Why do you insist on urging me to go home?”
But now, Lam Thanh Nghien just cried, he felt like the sky was about to collapse. I bowed my head and touched my stomach.
“I want to do the appraisal again.”
Luc Van Canh suddenly raised his head.
“No way.”
I looked at him.
“This is my body.”
His voice was very low:
“The baby is eight months old.”
"Khuong Chi, don't get angry with the baby."
"Thanh Nghien waited three years for this child."
My throat felt like something was blocking it.
“So what are my eight months worth?”
He stopped.
“My health is good.”
“We can still have children later.”
