Chapter 9
Chapter 9 — Empress Dowager Marries the Regent Prince
That dark robe still left warmth on his body and the faint scent of ambergris. Then, he bent down and picked me up in a horizontal hug. The whole person immediately stiffened. In my previous life, he and I never had much interaction. I only know that he has a cold personality, is not close to women, and is the person that Bui Triet is most wary of and trusts the most. I never thought we would meet again in this way.
"Your Majesty... this person is..."
Standing next to him, Tham Lien was so scared that he couldn't speak. Rushed into the dungeon and took away the queen's remains. How is this different from treason? Co Huyen Diep hugged me and turned around, coldly glancing at her.
"You dare to touch the emperor's woman."
"It seems that this king has been away from the capital for too long, causing you all to forget the rules."
His voice was very calm, but it made Tham Lien so scared that he became weak and fell to the ground.
"I don't dare... I don't dare..."
Co Huyen Diep didn't bother paying attention to her anymore, just hugged me and strode out. The prisoners in the prison were kneeling on the ground, no one dared to raise their heads. No one dared to stop him. I leaned in his arms, smelled the cold scent of his body, and suddenly felt like everything was not real.
"Why... did you save me?"
I asked softly. He didn't answer. Just hug me and walk all the way out of heaven. Outside, the sun was shining brightly. The sunlight that hasn't been seen for a long time is so bright that we can't open our eyes. Instinctively, I snuggled deeper into his embrace. His steps suddenly stopped. Then continue moving forward. He carried me into an extremely luxurious carriage. When he put me down, his movements were very light.
"Back to the royal palace."
He told the driver. The carriage slowly rolled. I leaned against the soft cushion, looking at the person sitting across from me. He sat upright, closing his eyes to meditate, as if all that had just happened had never existed. I asked again. This time, he opened his eyes. Those eyes were as deep as two pools of cold water with no bottom.
"Because you are the daughter of an old man."
"Old friend?" I was stunned. "Who is it?"
"Your mother, On Tri Hua."
My mother? The mother's name is indeed On Tri Hua. But she... is just an ordinary lady of the royal family, how could she know this powerful Regent? Furthermore, I have never heard my mother mention him before.
"You don't need to know too much."
It seems that Co Huyen Diep saw through my thoughts.
"You just need to know one thing."
"In my place, you will be safe."
"Bui Triet can't touch you."
His words made me feel a bit of peace that had been gone for a long time. But right after that, we remember our loved ones.
"And my father and elder brother..."
"This king has sent someone to stop it."
"Nothing will happen to them."
I breathed a sigh of relief and my whole body gradually relaxed. The fear, despair and fatigue that had accumulated over the past several days, at this moment, were like a rising tide all at once. My eyelids are getting heavier. Consciousness also gradually sinks into darkness. Before completely falling asleep, I seemed to hear him say something.
"Vi Vi, don't be afraid."
"This time, I won't let you suffer any more frustrations."
I had a very long dream. In the dream, we return to this life before. I put on my phoenix robe and stood on the towering city wall. Below is an army of thousands of horses. The leader is Co Huyen Diep. He was wearing silver armor and his whole body was covered in blood. He raised his head to look at me, in his eyes was pain and madness that I had never seen before. He called my name.
"Get down here!"
"Let's take her away!"
I smiled. I gently shook my head at him. Then spread his arms wide and jumped straight down from the city wall. I woke up from the dream and sat up straight. My heart beat violently, my forehead was covered with cold sweat.
"Miss, are you awake?"
A gentle voice rang in my ears. I turned my head and saw an elegantly dressed maid holding a bowl of medicine, looking at me kindly. I looked around. This is an elegant room, simply decorated but everywhere exuding a discreet luxury. There was also a calming scent in the air.
"This is..."
"This is the Regent Royal Palace." The maid replied softly. "The lady has been sleeping for two days."
"The king advised, when she wakes up, let her drink this bowl of medicine."
I received the bowl of medicine. The medicine is still warm.
