Chapter 7 — Grandma Reincarnated

“Why?” “Because grandma doesn't have a building.” Tran Viet behind him laughed. “Your grandmother is worth much more than that building.” The granddaughter tilted her head and thought for a moment. “Then I'll buy two buildings, one for grandma, one for mom and dad.” Tham Nam laughed until his waist bent. I also laughed, laughing until my shoulders were shaking, almost unable to hold her. "Okay." "Then you wait." My niece lay on my shoulder and began to hum that off-key da.a.o rhyme. Tran Viet stepped up, wrapped his arms around my shoulders. "Mom." "Yes?" "That building still belongs to that boy." "Yes." "That land is still Tham Nam's." "Yes." He tilted his head and looked at me. "In this life, mother left nothing for herself." I said nothing. He leaned his head on my shoulder, his voice muffled. "In the next life, I'll exchange you to make money for mom." I raised my hand to pat his back. "Okay, cheesy." Tham Nam smiled, taking my other arm. My niece was lying on my shoulder, covering her eyes. "Oh my god, everyone is hugging and cuddling again!" All three of them laughed. The afternoon sun slowly sets behind us. The commercial building opposite, the glass wall was dyed golden by the light. My niece lay on my shoulder and counted the floors. "One, two, three..." "Grandma, how many floors does that building have?" "Twelve floors." "Too many." "It's mine later." "Really?" "Really." She buried her face in my neck. "Then I'll give you half." I said nothing. The arms holding the baby tightened. The wind blows from behind. Not cold. Warm. End of story.
