Chapter 6 — I Hide Eight Languages For Three Years

Tham Vien's voice lowered: "Luc Vy, are these... true?" I bowed my head and nodded slightly.

“The time with country D, you understand the original German version, right?”

I was silent.

“Last time with country F, you understand French emails, right?”

I still don't speak.

“What about the time with move J?” His voice rose a bit higher, "I understood the Japanese recording, I knew the translation software misunderstood the customer's intention... but I didn't do anything. That project lost eight million."

I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my skin. Liu Feng stood up: “Boss Tham, this—”

“Sit down.” Tham Vien interrupted.

Luu Phong paused, then sat down. Tham Vien turned to the last page. It is a handwritten paragraph by Tien Quoc An.

"General Shen, I have my reasons for leaving. But Luc Vy shouldn't have left. She hid her abilities not because she was disloyal, but because she had been hurt. A good company should not make talented people afraid to express themselves. This report is not to accuse her, but to let you see clearly: how much she has accomplished, and how much the company has missed."

"She is a young person with the most outstanding linguistic talent I have ever met. That year at the embassy, I led dozens of translators, but no one could master eight languages like her. I hope you will treat her kindly."

“— Qian Quoc An”

The meeting room was as quiet as paper. Tran Lam's eyes turned red. The head of the human resources department's face was sometimes white and sometimes red. Tham Vien closed the report and looked at me. I raised my head.

“I ask you one last question.”

His voice had softened, no longer angry.

"If I guarantee it, no one will take your credit, no one will treat you like a tool. Are you willing to... step out?"

My throat constricted. It's been three years. For three years I've been hiding. Always scared. Lock yourself in a shell called "English assistant". The world out there is vast, but I only dare to stand in the corner, quietly helping, not daring to let anyone see my true self. I looked into Tham Vien's eyes. There is no blame, no calculation. There is only… sincerity.

“I'm ready.”

My voice is very quiet, but clear. Tham Vien nodded.

"Okay. From today, I am no longer a sales assistant."

He looked around the room.

"Luc Vy was appointed as the main contact chief of the Alvarez project. Salary increase is 59%, effective immediately. Project percentage divided by contribution, clearly stated in the contract."

"Also," he turned to the head of human resources, "temporarily suspend Qian Guo An's resignation procedure. I will personally invite him back."

The news spread and the whole company exploded.

"Have you heard? Ms. Luc of the sales department knows eight languages!"

"Eight things? No kidding, right?"

"Absolutely perfect! Personnel records have all the certificates, all at the highest level!"

“Why did she hide it so well?”

“I heard that I was exploited by my old company so I'm scared.”

I walked down the hallway, clearly feeling everyone's eyes. There is curiosity, there is admiration, there is also... disapproval. The first person to find me and cause trouble was the deputy head of administration, Hua Lam. At two o'clock in the afternoon, she stopped me at the tea room.

“Luc Vy, I ate with a few people this afternoon, everyone was talking about you.”

“I have a question.”

Hua Lam leaned against the water dispenser and crossed her arms.

“If you know eight languages, then the projects that had problems in the past… you all know where the error lies, right?”

I didn't reply.

"J water project, eight million damage. You obviously understand Japanese, why don't you?" speak?"

“Miss Hua, boss Tham has already—”

“I didn't ask boss Tham.” Her voice turned cold, “I asked you. Eight million in damages… do you feel that you are not responsible?”

“I didn't participate in that project, I just—”

“She just listened to the recording, discovered the problem... then chose to stay silent.” Hua Lam interrupted, her voice sharp as a knife. “Luc Vy, do you know that after that project failed, the person in charge was demoted two levels? Did you know?”

My hand was quietly clasped in my pocket.

“That person's name is Truong Vu, he is my younger brother's college friend. Because of this, he was depressed for half a year and almost quit his job."

Hua Lam's voice lowered, but every word carried resentment.
