Chapter 19
Chapter 19 — I Used To Love You To Exhaustion
Kieu Van Ngoc didn't know whether to laugh or cry. After hesitating for a moment, she held up the ring finger of her right hand for him to see. There was still a clear stain on it: "I was once married, and I also raised a child." Although that child was not born to her, Huo Canh Xuyen never wanted her to have a child. A flash of surprise flashed in Levi's dark green eyes, but then he repeated again: "No contradiction." Kieu Van Ngoc choked. Is this still not a contradiction? She felt her throat hurt as she spoke: "Your conditions are so good, I don't deserve you..." Levi's footsteps stopped. He turned to look at Kieu Van Ngoc, the surprise in his eyes became even deeper, mixed with some disagreement: "Why are you not worthy of me? Just because of a not so peaceful marriage?" Kieu Van Ngoc was speechless.
“What, how do you know my marriage is not peaceful?”
Just after asking, Kieu Van Ngoc felt regretful. If it were peaceful, she wouldn't have divorced. Levi said again: "When I first met you, I didn't think you were an insecure person. But when it comes to this marriage, you clearly look very unhappy." Kieu Van Ngoc was speechless. Not just unhappy. Three short years of marriage, she was covered in injuries and lost herself. When she first came to California, she didn't even dare look in the mirror. She did not dare to face the emaciated, lifeless self in the mirror. It took her a long time to find her voice again: "Yes... but I don't need to use a new relationship to prove that I've gotten over it."
“I'm fine alone.”
Levi laughed, like melting ice and snow: "Of course, you're great, Ms. Kieu."
“It's me who is pursuing you, you don't have to bear any burden.”
“You don't need a new love to prove yourself, I just hope you don't completely reject me because of your previous love.”
Kieu Van Ngoc was silent for a while and asked: "What if I really have PTSD and don't want to love?" Levi sighed helplessly: "Then I have to go home and curse your hateful ex-husband for one night, then continue trying to pursue you tomorrow." Kieu Van Ngoc "puffed" and laughed out loud. Tieu Ta raised her young face, looking confused: "What does pursuing mean? Is Miss Kieu about to become your mother?" Levi picked the boy up and kissed him: "If you succeed." Tieu Ta showed his face covered in saliva and looked at Kieu Van Ngoc greedily: "Then Miss Kieu, quickly agree!" Levi is much taller than Kieu Van Ngoc, Kieu Van Ngoc had to look up to look straight into his eyes. Snow is still falling, fluttering. Kieu Van Ngoc felt that the cold seemed to have been somewhat dispelled, and even the sharp snowflakes had become softer. That evening, Kieu Van Ngoc made a video call to her parents. She rolled around on the bed, her face red and said: "It seems I know how to love." Chapter 16 Two months later, at an airport in China. Kieu Van Ngoc wore a figure-hugging sports outfit, dragged a suitcase, and texted someone who was sulking as she walked.
“I still have to finish my doctoral thesis, so why don't I come back after returning home?”
“I'm just going home to visit for a bit.”
"Tieu Ta is crying? How can I believe it, he doesn't make me cry like that..."
In the middle of a line of people standing greeted, someone raised their hand and waved loudly: "Van Ngoc!" Kieu Van Ngoc's eyes lit up, she turned off the phone, ran to hug the woman: "Mom!" Mrs. Kieu tightened her arms around Kieu Van Ngoc, her eyes were red, her voice choked: "I'm finally back..." Kieu Van Ngoc also felt bitter in her heart, apologetically said: "I'm sorry, I suddenly had to go abroad to study without discussing anything with my parents."
