Chapter 1
Chapter 1 — In my previous life, I took the name for him, in this life I just stand and watch
He was born on the royal spring hunting day, and people in the stands were as noisy as water bursting its banks. But I feel like I'm falling into an ice cellar. My husband, the reigning Regent, Tieu Huyen, is holding his daughter Nhuoc Van tightly in his arms. He bowed his head, not knowing what he was saying to her. A layer of shy blush appeared on Nhuoc Van's face. That scene was as dazzling as a needle piercing my heart. The eyes of all the surrounding ladies carried pity, either clearly or secretly. The girls looked at me, as if I were the one who was redundant. I am Princess Regent, On Jing. Married to Tieu Huyen for three years, still could not warm his heart. In my previous life, I thought it was because I didn't try hard enough. It wasn't until I died that I realized it wasn't that I wasn't good enough, but that in his heart, I never existed. On the hunting ground below the stands, the sound of the horn suddenly became mournful. Chaos suddenly broke out. Out of nowhere, dozens of black-clad assassins appeared, holding swords in their hands, rushing straight towards us. The Forbidden Army reacted a beat too slowly. The situation immediately lost control. The shrill screams and the sound of clashing weapons mixed into chaos. We see an arrow. A black wolf arrow shot through the crowd, aiming straight at Tieu Huyen's chest. Such a familiar scene. In my previous life, I almost instinctively rushed forward. The arrow pierced my back, the pain was so intense that I couldn't even speak. I fell into Tieu Huyen's arms, the last thing I heard was him saying:
"The princess protects her, that is her duty."
There was not a flash of temperature. He even gave pitying eyes to Nhuoc Van who was trembling with fear in his heart. We look at the arrow coming at extremely fast speed. Just quietly picked up a tangerine and placed it on the couch next to it. Slowly, leisurely peel off the shell. The cool tangerine scent amidst the strong smell of blood becomes even more out of place.
“Your Majesty be careful!”
The chief of the guard next to him roared and rushed forward. The long knife swung out, just in time to cut off the tip of the wolf's arrow. The arrow stuck into the hallway pillar, vibrating loudly. Tieu Huyen was rescued by a guard. He was not injured even by a hair. But his eyes were not looking at the guard, but staring at me. Those eyes that once captivated me were now filled with storms and disbelief. The assassins were quickly wiped out. The chaos gradually subsided. He strode in front of me, his shadow completely covering my body. I haven't even had time to put a tangerine segment in my mouth. His wrist was tightened. The force was so strong that it seemed to crush my bones.
“Are you blind?”
His indignant voice tried to suppress his sky-high anger.
“Why don't you take the name for this king!”
Severe pain transmitted from the wrist. I frowned in pain. But I'm not like my previous life, I don't cry or explain. I just raised my head and calmly looked at him.
“King.”
My voice was very light, but it clearly reached his ears.
"My duty is to give birth to children and maintain the bloodline for the royal family."
"It's not because of you that I can block swords and arrows."
Tieu Huyen's pupils constricted violently. It seemed he didn't expect that I - who was always obedient and humble - could do it say such words.
“What did she say?”
His voice was hoarse, carrying danger. I looked behind him, where Nhuoc Van was so scared that her face turned pale. She was being supported by a few maids, timidly looking towards us. My eyes returned to Tieu Huyen's face.
“Your Majesty, I marry the royal family, this is the identity of the Regent.”
“My life is very precious.”
"You can't arbitrarily die for a man."
“Besides, isn't there a guard next to you?”
I say each word, very slowly. Each word was like a small hammer, tapping into the logic that was ingrained in him. He probably never thought about it. A wife is not a dependent of her husband. He gritted his teeth and called my name.
“She's bold!”
“I'm not bold.”
I tried to pull my hand away, but his force was too great. The wrist bones made an unbearable cracking sound.
“I'm just stating a fact.”
“If I die, will the Dinh An Hau palace behind me be ignored?”
"My father holds 100,000 soldiers in his hands, defending the Northern Cuong."
"If you knew that your only daughter died unjustly, just because she saved your son-in-law an arrow of unknown origin, what would you think?"
These words, in my previous life, until my death, I did not dare to say them. I love him. Love to the point of losing yourself. Forget that I am also the queen of the Marquis. I don't want to love anymore. I just want to live well. For myself. Also for those who truly love us. Tieu Huyen's face turned pale. He stared at me, his eyes as if he wanted to curse me. But the hand that was squeezing my wrist loosened a little. Because what we say is the truth. He was able to become the Regent Prince, thanks to my father's prestige in the Northern Cuong, which is no small feat. He may not respect me. But he must respect my father. He gritted his teeth, each word seemed to be forced out from between his teeth.
“Okay, maybe your life is very precious.”
He suddenly jerked my hand away. My body lost balance and hit the pillar behind me. A sharp pain immediately came from behind. He looked down at me from above, his eyes filled with contempt and disgust.
“This king really looked down on her before.”
