Chapter 7 — Language is Wings

Tieu Manh immediately texted.

“This email is aimed at you.”

Of course I know. When To Uyen Tinh searched my computer, she saw those multilingual files. She must have gone looking for Tran Vu Phi. But the relationship between the two... is clear. The purpose of this email is very simple—to force me to declare that I know eight languages, then use the excuse of "hiding information" as a disciplinary action. But employees with disciplinary marks... cutbacks at the end of the year will be put at the top of the list. I finished reading the email and turned it off. In the afternoon, To Uyen Tinh walked up to my table. The expression this time was completely different—no longer angry, but one that held the initiative firmly in hand.

“Lam Dao, did you see the email?”

"I advise you to update it soon. If it is discovered that you intentionally concealed it, the nature will be different."

“Thank you, Team Leader To, for reminding me.”

She smiled, turned and left. I looked at the screen, silent for five minutes. Then opened the business card that Co Than Chau gave me yesterday. Black background, one line of text. I turned it over. There was a very small handwritten line that I hadn't noticed before.

“If you can't stay there—it's always possible.”

I looked at that text for ten seconds. Then put the business card away. It's not time yet. When I got home that night, lawyer Chu called again.

"Miss Lam, I'm sorry to bother you again. But this matter really needs you to handle it directly—your parents' inheritance involves many countries. If liquidation is not completed within six months, according to Swiss law, it will automatically be transferred to the trust for management."

"How much?"

"The account in Zurich alone is four million seven hundred thousand Swiss francs. There is also a property in Munich—"

“Lawyer Chu.”

“I said, I don't need it.”

“But Miss Lam—”

"Help me find an international charity fund and donate everything. If you need to sign documents, send them over and I'll sign."

I hung up. Four million seven hundred thousand francs. In exchange… nearly forty million yuan. Plus the house in Munich. I earn a salary of eighty thousand a year, raise a cat, and live in a rented room that's not warm enough in the winter. My parents left me nearly fifty million. I don't need it. Each of those coins was tied to their last trip—on the way to Geneva, for a peace project. I don't need it. Nien Cao lay at my feet and cried softly.

“Don't worry, your food will not be lacking.”

The next morning, Friday. At nine o'clock, Trinh Hao Nam summoned the entire translation room. All are present. He stood in front, Tran Vu Phi stood next to him.

“Today's meeting, two things.”

"The first is the Dong Thinh project. The first phase has been completed, the General is very satisfied with the quality of the translation. The project bonus will be distributed next month."

Everyone's eyes immediately lit up.

“The second thing.” He looked towards me.

“Relating to updating employee profile information.”

To Uyen Tinh sat up straight.

"I realized that there are employees who have not fully disclosed their skills when they come to work. I emphasize again - the information must be truthful and complete. If there are any shortcomings, they will be updated this week."

After he finished speaking, his eyes left me. But To Uyen Tinh did not intend to stop.

“Mr. Trinh, I have a question.”

"If an employee intentionally hides his or her skills, causing the company to misjudge the allocation of personnel, is that considered a violation?"

She said, looking straight at me. The whole room turned around. Trinh Hao Nam thought for a moment.

“This depends on the situation can.”

“So let me give you an example.” To Uyen Tinh stood up.

“There is an employee whose CV only reads English, but in fact is fluent in many languages. The company determines positions and salaries based on that, and she has no opinion. Three years passed, the company accidentally missed a valuable resource. This behavior—”

The person who interrupted was not Trinh Hao Nam. All eyes turned to me. I stood up.

“Team leader To, the person you're talking about is me, right? No need to beat around the bush.”

She raised her eyebrows.

“What if it's true?”

"Correct. My CV is only written in English. But the job I got was only in English, and I never made a mistake. The position requirement is English, I meet it. As for the other languages—”

“She hid the other languages, so that the company had to recruit more people for the German, French, and Japanese teams, while she alone could do it all. Isn't this causing damage to the company?

I looked straight at her.

“Team leader To, if I can do it all alone—then where is your position?”

Her face turned pale for a moment. The meeting room was silent for three seconds.

“This has nothing to do with my position!”

"Related." I speak slowly.

“Because what you worry about is not the company's interests. It's that you realized my ability surpasses yours, so your position is no longer secure."

“I repeat again. An unwritten CV does not mean hiding it. The company's recruitment form does not require declaring all skills. I only choose to show what is needed for the position I am applying for. That's my right.”

Trinh Hao Nam stood and listened, not interrupting. Tran Vu Phi's expression became unpredictable.
