Chapter 6
Chapter 6 — Leaving England For West Africa
"Co Tuyet Dao, you've won." Her voice was sharp. "Lam Tham used her connections to block my entire life path in this industry." "I really don't understand. Based on what?" "Are you more beautiful than me? Younger than me? Do you know how to please others better than me?" She took a step forward. "You just met him a few years earlier than me, got the advantage first." I was tired of hearing that. "Are you done? Avoid it." I'm in a hurry." Chau Nhiem smiled coldly. "Don't be complacent. You've returned, but I heard that Lam Tham refused Phong Due's invitation last month and continued to stay at his old company." "Even if he misses his old love, so what? Now you're both middle and senior managers of two rival companies. In a competitive relationship, how much is an old love worth?" She's provoking me. I just feel bored. I pressed the elevator button. "Leave it to you. Go, go back to him. I wish you success." Chau Nhiem's face changed continuously. From the darkness of the emergency exit, a familiar figure stepped out. Lam Tham wore a neat suit, but between his eyebrows was a tiredness that could not be hidden. I stopped walking and calmly nodded. Chau Nhiem panicked, quickly adjusted his collar and forced a smile. "Mr. Tham, why are you... I came here to meet a friend..." "Get out." Lam Tham's voice was cold and hard. Chau Nhiem was about to pull his arm. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have come to find Co Tuyet Dao. But I have no other choice. I can't continue working in this industry anymore, please help me..." "I said, get out." Chau Nhiem lost her soul and left. Lam Tham looked at me, and after a while, he spoke: "Co Tuyet Dao, you are about to leave your old company and establish your own investment fund." I remained silent. Lam Tham pulled the corners of his lips. "I know that the mistakes I made cannot be easily compensated for, so I want to use a completely new identity to start over. You did very well at Phong Due. I hope in the future we will have the opportunity to cooperate." His voice was extremely sincere. But I don't need it. I remained silent. Lam Tham became impatient. "Co Tuyet Dao, give me a chance to make up for it. I really miss the time before when we were partners. Let's start from scratch, okay?" No. I'm completely uninterested. I sighed softly. "Lam Tham, do you think it makes sense to do this?" Lam Tham could barely stand. So many words stuck in my throat. Finally, he nodded slightly, turned and walked into the night. I returned to the apartment, took a hot shower and then slept completely. Five years later, my investment fund completed a landmark cross-border merger and acquisition deal. After deciding on all the details, I accepted an interview with the financial media. The turbulence of the past many years has settled into calmness in my eyes. After the interview ended, I left work early and went to the rooftop to enjoy the scenery near the company. This place has been renovated, but the view is still as open as before. There is a person sitting in the rest area. Dark gray suit, laptop, fingers rapidly typing on the keyboard. Several young employees secretly looked at him. The new trainees' eyes were filled with curiosity and admiration. I stopped walking. Lam Tham. Long time no see. I walked towards him. Lam Tham was receiving a video call, his expression serious. "President Wang, regarding the cross-border data compliance plan, I asked the team to prepare three contingency plans. Yes, I will personally supervise." He ended the call, closed the computer and prepared to leave, then our four eyes met. I smiled and nodded. "Long time no see." He was stunned
In some places, the pupils were slightly dilated, the fingers unconsciously tightened. But he quickly regained his composure. Only his eyes revealed complex emotions. After a while, he spoke up: "General Director Co, congratulations on winning the Khoa Tan project. A very nice merger deal." I motioned to sit down and talk. We sat on the sofa in the rest area, through the glass wall watching the city lights light up one by one. I remember the night scenes that many years ago we used to see together here. Lam Tham spoke again:
