Chapter 29 — Leaving You, I Shine
The things that I once considered my entire world - Co Hanh's recognition, the title "Lady Co", the L-shaped desk on the 42nd floor - were all left behind in that building. I didn't bring anything with me, but I didn't lose anything either. Because things worth carrying are never in the hands of others. The afternoon breeze carried the gentle scent of cinnamon flowers. Luc Dich's fingers that were flipping through picture books stopped and he looked up at me.
“What are you thinking?”
“Think nothing.”
“Then come over here and sit.”
I walked over and sat down next to him. His arms naturally wrapped around my shoulders, I leaned my head on his shoulder. On the garden lawn, light and shade danced together. The snake plant on the window sill stood still, its leaf tips catching the sunset light. The days are still long. Enough for me to walk slowly.
