Chapter 10 — My Foolish Beauty of a Sister
You were like a brilliant beam of light, fiercely tearing apart the first half of my life, which had been defined by endless repression and quiet endurance.
"Agreed."
I extended my hand, watching as he slid the ring onto my ring finger.
"However, I have one condition as well."
I looked up, meeting his gaze.
"What is your condition?"
"If we have a daughter in the future, you must never show favoritism. Neither of them will ever be asked to yield to the other."
Tu Thoi Tu burst into laughter. He pulled me forcefully into his embrace, lowering his head to press a tender kiss to my forehead.
"Rest assured."
His voice rang out with absolute clarity amidst the howling snow and wind.
"The children of our household will never need to learn how to compromise or concede. They only need to learn how to hold tightly onto everything that rightfully belongs to them."
The snow fell heavier and thicker by the minute, blanketing and concealing all the filth and ugliness of this world. I closed my eyes, resting my head against his broad shoulder. Tomorrow would mark a completely fresh beginning. The end of the story.
