Chapter 1
Chapter 1 — My Husband Forced Me to Serve Him, I Flipped the Books to Collect Debt
"Little sister, cough cough... My body is weak, I can't smell the cinnamon flowers in this yard. Please ask someone to cut down all those trees."
My husband, the talented actor Lam Tu Vien, is carefully guiding his newly widowed sister-in-law, Lieu Thi, to sit on the main hall of the main hall that belongs to me. Lieu Thi hugged her chest, panting softly, looking as weak as a willow leaf that would fall if the wind blew, but the eyes looking towards me were full of calculation.
"Furthermore, the doctor said that my medicine must be made by the owner who fasts and recites Buddha's name continuously for 3 days, then personally uses a small fire to boil for 3 hours to be effective."
“In the future, cough cough… the medicine is in my hospital, I have no choice but to bother my younger sister.”
"Consider this a rule that younger sisters must follow to respect their eldest sister-in-law as the Lam family's daughter-in-law."
Tell me to cut down all the golden cinnamon trees that I spent 1,000 taels of silver to buy and plant? Telling a noble woman like me to work as a maid to prepare medicine for a widow? How dare you call it "establishing rules"? I coldly looked at Lam Tu Vien, yet he had a matter-of-fact expression on his face, even using a commanding tone.
"The sister-in-law is miserable, but her body is fragile and precious, like a child who needs someone to comfort and pamper her."
"If she's healthy and strong, what's wrong with shouldering a little more and serving a little more?"
"Don't be narrow-minded and ruin the dignity of the mother of the Lam family."
Looking at the man and woman who could say such brazen words in such a noble tone, I was so angry that I laughed. I walked up to the bowl of nutritious soup that had just been brought up. I picked up the bowl of soup and threw it straight at Lieu Thi's feet, the hot soup splashing all over her body. Lieu Thi screamed, like a frightened baby bird rushing straight into Lam Tu Vien's arms.
“Are you crazy?!” Lam Tu Vien roared.
"That's right, I'm crazy! I'd be crazy to waste more words like that on you guys!"
I picked up the towel given by the maid and slowly wiped my hands clean, my voice as cold as ice.
“If your sister-in-law is really so sick that she can't manage her own life and is like a child, then Lam Tu Vien, go and be a good grandchild yourself and serve her!”
“The mother of this Lam family residence, I won't do it anymore!”
“Someone, bring my books here!”
"Today, even if we have to pry off every brick that I paid for, they will not try to take away even a single part of my profit!"
As soon as my words ended, the four maids who came with me to do the dowry immediately rushed straight into the main street. Xuan Dao hugged a stack of books and threw them heavily on the purple wooden table. Lam Tu Vien looked at the pile of books piled high in front of him, his face stiffened for a moment, but was quickly overshadowed by the fake nobility of the literati.
“Tham Nhu Y, don't cause trouble here for no reason!”
“I just told you to take care of your miserable and helpless sister-in-law, but you dare to threaten me with your books?”
"It's true that a merchant's daughter smells like money, and really doesn't know what etiquette and integrity are!"
He raised his head high, showing the appearance of standing at the pinnacle of morality to criticize me. Lieu Thi also tightened her handkerchief at the same time, tears falling from her eyes.
“Tu Vien, it's all my fault, I shouldn't have I'm still alive and come to you for help..."
"I'm leaving now. Even if I die of hunger or illness on the street, I can't cause you and your younger brother to have a disagreement."
His mouth said he wanted to leave, but that soft, boneless body seemed to have taken root on Lam Tu Vien's body, his hand tightened around his sleeve and refused to let go. Lam Tu Vien immediately felt pain like a knife, and hugged her tighter.
“Don't cry, sister-in-law, this Lam family is my decision!”
He turned his head and glared at me, as if I were a single woman who had committed a heinous crime.
“Tham Nhu Y, if you dare to step out of this room today, I will retire you!”
"By then she will just be an abandoned wife, let's see how she can still stand in this capital!"
Looking at his arrogant and triumphant little man's face, I really couldn't help but laugh out loud. Could he have forgotten who he relied on to be able to put on the elegant appearance of a wealthy actor in the capital?
