Chapter 9
Chapter 9 — My In-Game Husband is a CEO
I was sitting indoors playing a video game, while he leaned against the sofa reviewing business documents. Idly, I opened the global chat channel and happened to catch a public message:
"My dear little sister is looking for a gaming partner on the world channel again."
Without raising his head, he replied, "Pay her no mind." I chuckled softly and returned to my match. Unfortunately, my teammates were throwing the game, and unable to contain my frustration, I turned on my voice chat.
"Support, follow my lead. Stop wandering off alone."
There was a two-second silence on the other end. Then, I heard the man sitting on the sofa speak up.
"Do not turn on the microphone."
Taken aback, I turned my head to look at him. He laid his documents aside, walked over, and sat down right beside me.
"What is the matter?"
He did not answer, merely fixing his gaze upon my phone screen. On the display, my virtual champion was pacing through the digital jungle. Then, he reached out and muted my microphone.
"From now on, do not use voice chat in games," he said.
I stared at him. He stared back at me. Slowly, a realization began to dawn in my mind.
"Are you jealous?"
He did not reply. Yet, the tips of his ears turned faintly red. I could not help breaking into a bright laugh.
"Director Tran," I leaned in closer to him, "You are a grown man, yet you still get jealous over something like this?"
He looked at me intently before uttering a single syllable:
"Yes."
Just that one word. Low, profound, and spoken with absolute, unyielding conviction. I laughed so hard I could not stop. The next moment, he leaned down and kissed me. The bustling world instantly faded into quietude, leaving only the soft background music of the game echoing in the room.
That evening, he insisted on holding me tight as we slept. The air conditioning was set very low, so he wrapped the thick blanket securely around us, pulling me into his embrace as if guarding some irreplaceable treasure. Unable to fall asleep, I playfully poked his chin with my finger.
"What is on your mind?"
"Can you perhaps be a little less petty in the future?"
He fell silent for two seconds.
"No."
I was rendered speechless.
"And why is that?"
He gave no explanation, only tightening his arms around me a fraction more. After a very long pause, he murmured:
"You belong to me."
Just four words. Deep, slightly melancholic, muffled softly against my hair. A sudden urge to smile welled up inside me. This man, who always projected an aloof, untouchable aura to the outside world, could be so fiercely possessive in private that he begrudged strangers in a video game merely hearing the sound of my voice. Suddenly, a memory surfaced in my mind:
"Do you know what your sister told me today?"
He paused. "What did she say?"
"She mentioned that you had never been in a relationship growing up, and asked me to treat you well."
He remained silent. I smiled. "Your sister is rather adorable."
"Mm."
"More adorable than you."
He shifted slightly, as if registering a silent protest. I teased him further: "Still, you are much better." He kept quiet. But I could feel the gentle brush of his chin against the crown of my head. The moonlight streamed through the window, casting a silver glow over his handsome profile. The night was breathtakingly serene. The End
