Chapter 8
Chapter 8 — My Parents Lived in AA for 45 Years
He suddenly realized. The woman in front of her seemed completely different. No more patience. No more eyes always trying to please him. She just sat there calmly. So calm that it made him feel strange. He opened his mouth.
“Are you investigating me?”
Mom smiled.
“Shall I investigate you?”
“Or are you afraid of something?”
Dad was a bit speechless.
“I just wanted to ask.”
“Those papers…”
“Where from?”
“Which paper did you say?”
“Don't pretend.”
Dad's voice began to lose patience.
“Capital contribution paper.”
“Commitment paper.”
“The bills.”
He stopped.
“…books.”
Mom took a sip of tea.
“Forty-five years.”
Dad squeezed his hand.
“Why did it take so long?”
“I thought…”
“You think I'm stupid?”
Mother interrupted. Her voice was still very light. But every word is like a blade.
“I only have the habit of saving what belongs to me.”
“Is there something wrong?”
Dad was silent. First time in my life. He didn't know how to respond. After a few minutes. He tried to smile.
“After all, we were once husband and wife.”
“Is it necessary to go to this extent?”
Mom looked at him.
“To what extent?”
“Initiate a lawsuit.”
“Demand to divide assets.”
“Let's go back to forty-five years ago.”
“I never said I would sue.”
“I just want to get back what belongs to me.”
Dad suddenly laughed coldly.
“How many years has it been?”
“You still care?”
Mom put down the tea cup.
“I just don't want my daughter to think her mother lived her whole life without any value.”
That sentence made dad pause. Right at that moment. Dad's phone vibrated. It's Luu Vien. He looked at the screen. Instinctively wanted to turn off the computer. Mom smiled softly.
“No need to be shy.”
Dad hesitated for a few seconds then picked up the phone. Luu Vien's sweet voice rang out.
“Where are you?”
“I have chosen the villa.”
“Shall we sign the contract at the end of the week?”
Dad glanced at Mom.
“Let's talk later.”
"Impossible."
“They will keep that apartment until tomorrow.”
“Ah yes…”
Liu Yuan chuckled.
“The Porsche I like is white.”
“I'll buy it too.”
“My car is so old.”
Dad frowned.
“Let's figure it out later.”
“Why leave it later?”
“You said once you get divorced, the money is all yours.”
“You also said that from now on, everything will be up to you to take care of.”
I stood outside the door. Although I can't hear clearly. But looking at his father's face became more and more unsightly. Mom still calmly drank tea. The call ended. The room fell silent again. Mom asked softly.
“She spends money really fast.”
Dad forced a smile.
“Just women and children.”
“Buy whatever you like.”
“You told me once.”
“Even a penny counts.”
Mother looked straight into his eyes.
“There are also people who make you willing to spend money.”
Dad bowed his head. The meeting ended quickly. Exit the tea shop. Mom just told me.
“It's starting to get confusing.”
“But it's still not enough.”
I nodded. A feeling of insecurity arose in my heart. Three days later. I got off work early. Passing by Van Dat shopping center, I saw a familiar figure. She wore a brand new designer dress. Carrying a bag worth hundreds of thousands of yuan. The person accompanying me is not my father. He's a guy about twenty-eight or twenty-nine years old. Dress trendy. The two of them held each other's arms very intimately. I was stunned. Instinctively, I pulled down my hood and followed. Two people walked into a coffee shop. I sat at the back table. The distance is close enough to hear the conversation. The young man laughed.
“Does that old man really believe you?”
Liu Yuan burst out laughing.
“Him I thought I was still very attractive.”
“I listen to whatever you say.”
“What about the villa?”
“Of course I have to buy it.”
“What about Porsche?”
“Must buy too.”
“If you can't get money now, when will you wait?”
The two looked at each other and laughed loudly. The young man reached out and gently pinched Luu Vien's cheek.
“You are really skilled.”
“Waiting to get the property.”
“I'm going abroad.”
“Leave him alone.”
Liu Vien leaned her head on his shoulder.
“If only he would sell the house.”
“Money in hand.”
I tightened my grip on the phone. His blood seemed to boil. This is her true face. I quietly turned on the camera. Then switch to recording video. Entire dialogue. The whole scene of two people hugging and kissing. All clearly recorded. Just when I was about to leave. The phone suddenly vibrated.
“Where are you?”
I lowered my voice.
“I just caught a huge gift.”
“What gift?”
“Give it to dad.”
The other end of the line was silent for a few seconds. Mom just spoke softly.
“Don't be rash.”
“I will teach you…”
“How to make a person see the truth clearly.”
I looked at the photo on the screen. The corners of the lips slightly raised. The day my father woke up from his dream. Not far anymore.
