Chapter 2
Chapter 2 — My sister gave birth and then left. I took the baby and knocked on the door of my great-grandfather's house
The Co Thi Group building stands tall in the city center. Just standing at the foot of a building is enough to make people feel small. I held the baby and walked into the hall. All around were people wearing neat suits, walking briskly. Their eyes stopped on me one after another. Contempt. It's like I'm looking at someone who shouldn't be here. I don't bother to pay attention. Holding the baby tightly, I went straight to the reception desk. The girl behind the counter applied delicate makeup and smiled professionally. It's just a pity... The disdain in her eyes was not hidden.
"May I ask, do you have an appointment?"
"I want to meet Co Du Chau."
As soon as she heard that name, her smile immediately stopped. The eyes looking at me became even more contemptuous.
"Sorry."
"If there is no appointment, Mr. Co will not meet anyone."
It's those eyes again. I took a deep breath, trying to suppress my frustration. The baby in her arms also seemed to feel the tense atmosphere. It stirred slightly. I don't have time to mess around anymore. Looking straight at the receptionist, I calmly said:
"She told him."
"His son is here."
"If he doesn't come down within ten minutes..."
"I will carry his son and sit right in front of the Co Thi Group's door."
"Sit until all the reporters arrive."
The receptionist's expression immediately changed. From contempt... To surprise... Then panic.
"You... don't joke like this..."
I calmly looked at her.
"Do you think I'm joking?"
I gently pulled the blanket down. The baby's rosy face appeared. Even though he was still very young... But between his eyebrows, there were already some glimpses of the man who often appeared in financial magazines. Up to seven parts. The receptionist took a sharp breath. This time she did not dare to hesitate any longer. Quickly picked up the internal phone to report to superiors. The surrounding atmosphere immediately changed. People passing by unconsciously turned their heads to look at me. Chatter echoed throughout the hall. I still stood still. Back straight. Even though all eyes were on me. I don't care what they think. I just know... This is my only chance to escape that family. Less than five minutes. The dedicated elevator door opens. Several men wearing black suits and headphones quickly walked over. They immediately stood around me in a circle, blocking out all curious eyes. The air suddenly became cold. The leader takes a step forward. Gently bow your head.
"Please follow us."
His voice was still cold as ice. But enough for me to understand... I won the bet. I held the baby and walked into the specialized elevator. The elevator quietly went up. The shiny metal wall reflected my pale face. With the child still sleeping peacefully in his arms. The elevator door opens. A large office appeared before my eyes. Through the ground-level glass is the entire city scene. By the window. A man was standing with his back to me. The handmade vest hugs the tall body. Standing straight like a pine tree. Just one silhouette is enough to create a feeling of oppression. Heard noise. He slowly turned around. That face is even more perfect than what I've seen in the newspaper. Sharp eyebrows. High nose bridge. Thin lips. His eyes were cold as if covered with a layer of ice. That person... is Co Du Chau. He never looked at me. Eyes set immediately stopped at the baby in my arms. In those cold eyes... For the first time, a waver appeared. He stepped forward step by step. The sound of leather shoes tapping on the marble floor rang out clearly. Every step... It's like stepping directly on my heartbeat. He stopped in front of me. The tall body almost obscured all the light.
"What do you want?"
The voice was colder than the eyes.
"Want money..."
"Or do you want to sit in the position of Mrs. Co?"
I raised my head to meet his cold eyes. No fear.
“I don't need anything.”
My voice was very calm.
“I just need you to be responsible for this baby.”
Co Du Chau's eyebrows slightly raised. It seems a bit surprising. The assistant behind him immediately took a step forward, holding out a check.
“Miss, this is ten million yuan.”
“Enough for you to live happily for the next half of your life.”
“Leave the baby, you can go.”
His tone sounded exactly like he was giving alms to a beggar. I laughed. A cold smile from the bottom of my heart.
“I told you, I don't need money.”
I looked straight at Co Du Chau, saying every word very clearly:
“First, this baby is your son, you can have a DNA test at any time.”
"Second, his name is Hua Nac, born to my sister Hua Thanh."
“Third, my sister threw it to me and went abroad herself.”
“Fourth, I have no obligation nor ability to raise it.”
“It is your responsibility, not mine.”
After I finished speaking, the whole office fell into dead silence. Co Du Chau looked at me, for the first time a sense of scrutiny appeared in his eyes. No longer looking like a trouble maker. It's about looking at an... opponent. He was silent for a long time. It took so long that I thought he was going to call his bodyguards to throw me out.
“Hua Thanh?”
He finally opened his mouth, his voice carrying sarcasm.
“It turned out to be her.”
Looks like he doesn't have a good impression of my sister. Maybe even about to forget this person. That's right. People like him are surrounded by as many women as fish in the river. My sister is just an unremarkable fish among them.
“How responsible do you want me to be?” he asked.
“Very simple.”
I moved Hua Nac in my arms a little forward.
“The boy, belongs to me.”
“As for me, I want to be free.”
“Before I can become independent, you need to provide me with a safe place to live and take care of my education and basic living expenses.”
“When I graduate from college, we will all go our separate ways, no one owes anyone anything.”
I offer my conditions. Not for money. It's for my own life. I can't just pack my ass and go home. I was penniless, even survival was a problem. Let alone completing your studies. Co Du Chau, it's him who put me in this situation. He had a reason to provide me with a springboard. A springboard so I can start over. The assistant behind Co Du Chau's face became very unsightly. Perhaps this was the first time he saw someone daring to bargain with his boss. But Co Du Chau laughed. That smile was very faint, but it made his cold face suddenly brighten.
“You are interesting.”
“Much more interesting than your sister.”
He glanced at the bodyguard next to him. A bodyguard immediately advanced up, carefully wanting to pick up the baby from my arms. I hugged Hua Nac tightly.
“Before the DNA test results come back, the baby must be with me.”
This is my trump card. Also my talisman. I can't hand the boy over. Co Du Chau's eyes were deep. He agreed again. He turned around and said to his assistant:
“Assistant Ly, take Miss Hua and the baby to Van Dinh Villa.”
“Get the best doctors and nutritionists there.”
"About the DNA test, you go do it yourself, using the fastest speed."
“Yes, General Co.”
Assistant Ly responded respectfully. The look he looked at me changed from contempt to complexity. I hugged Hua Nac, followed assistant Ly, and entered the elevator again. The elevator door slowly closed. Separated from Co Du Chau's probing eyes. I leaned against the cold elevator wall, only to realize that the back of my shirt was drenched in sweat. Van Dinh Villa. Located halfway up the mountain, in the most luxurious rich area. Splendid like a castle. Assistant Ly made arrangements for me, and the doctor and nutritionist also quickly arrived. They gave Hua Nac a general checkup and confirmed that he was very healthy. After finishing everything, it was already late. I finally have a big soft bed that belongs to me. I lay in bed but didn't feel sleepy at all. Everything was like a dream. Right now. My phone vibrated frantically. It's Trieu Lan. I swiped the screen, and a text message filled with curse words caught my eye. 【Hua Niem! This beast! Where did you take the baby?!】 【I'm telling you, get back here immediately!】 【If you don't, I'll call the police! Telling you to kidnap children!】 I looked at the cruel words on the phone screen. The last bit of warmth in my heart also disappeared. Report to the police? Kidnapping children? How dare they? I immediately called back. The phone picked up in the first second. Trieu Lan's harsh, high-pitched voice boomed through the speakers:
"Hua Niem, you brat! You finally dare to answer the phone!"
"I ask you! Where did you take the baby?!"
"Are you crazy about money? I'm telling you, don't play tricks!"
I put the phone away a bit. Wait until she finishes screaming before bringing it closer to your ear.
“Am I playing tricks?”
I laughed softly.
“Ms. Trieu Lan, who is playing tricks here?”
“Who treats my newly born grandchild like trash and throws it to me?”
"Who is willing to ruin another girl's life for the sake of one girl's future?"
The other end of the line was silent for a moment. Immediately followed by more frantic screams:
“What are you talking nonsense about?”
"I'm your mother! I only did it because I wanted to be good for you!"
