Chapter 12
Chapter 12 — Old Love Turns to Ashes
Every year, my lips are chapped in the fall, and my hands are full of blemishes in the winter. I actually don't enjoy my current job at all. But because of Giang Tu Nien, I always gritted my teeth and persevered. Now it's not necessary anymore. The handover time took place faster than expected, the amount of projects in hand was not much, and it was completed in three days. When my colleagues heard that I was leaving, they gathered around and wanted to invite me to a meal. I couldn't refuse forever. In the end, I was still dragged out to eat a round of hot pot. Halfway through the meal, the intern sitting next to me leaned closer and asked in a low voice:
"Sister To, that woman seems to be Van Van..."
I followed the girl's eyes. Outside the transparent glass door of the hot pot restaurant, Van Van was standing on the sidewalk carrying her pregnant belly, arguing loudly with a luxurious lady.
“The baby in my belly is your husband's!”
Van Van's voice penetrated through the glass, shrill and shrill:
“The hospital has already done the tests, half of the Vuong family's assets belong to my child, what right do you have to evict me?”
The lady laughed coldly, raised her hand and slapped her straight in the face. People walking around were talking loudly. The female colleague sitting next to her said in a low voice:
"I heard that after breaking up with Giang Tu Nien, Van Van carried her pregnant belly to find the baby's biological father. I don't know how she begged, but in general, the other guy fell in love and promised to take care of her and her mother."
"Guess the result? The next day, that guy drove out, had an accident on the highway, and died on the spot."
"After that, his wife began to investigate, found out Van Van's story, immediately kicked her out of the house, confiscated all her belongings. Van Van was not willing, ran to the door of the house and made a fuss, demanding inheritance rights for her unborn child..."
Outside the window, Van Van stood up straight, half of her face was red and swollen. She shouted loudly towards the lady's back:
“You just wait! I won't let this go!”
The lady didn't even look back, the car accelerated and sped away. Van Van stood in place, using the back of her hand to wipe away her tears. My colleague nudged me:
"Miss To, she seems to be... looking this way."
As soon as I looked up, Van Van's eyes were fixed firmly on my face. She recognized me. Pushed open the glass door and rushed in.
“To Mien, you saw that, right?”
Her voice was both sour and hoarse, the whole restaurant turned to look:
“Now that I have become like this, are you very happy?”
I put down my chopsticks and said nothing.
“It's you, you're the one who ruined everything for me, you bitch…”
The more Van Van talked, the more agitated she became. She suddenly rushed forward and raised her hand to slap me. A figure next to me rushed out to block me, blocking my way. A dull "pop" sounded, and the slap hit the person who had just arrived hard in the face. It's Hua Nghien. Van Van was taken away by the called police. Hua Nghien hugged half of her face and stood in front of me, softly saying:
“A Mien…”
I didn't look at her, grabbed my coat from the chair, and was about to walk out.
“A Mien, I'm sorry.”
I didn't reply.
"I always... can't see Van Van's true face clearly."
“I thought she was really that kind of innocent girl, thought she was innocent... I was so stupid.”
She turned to look at me, her eyes red:
“A Mien, you can forgive me Are not?"
“Hua Nghien.”
I spoke up, my voice very calm:
“Some broken things are broken, you spared me this slap, I'm very grateful, but gratitude doesn't mean it can erase everything, I will never forget the hurt you caused me.”
I raised the corners of my lips and smiled:
"Take care, don't look for me in the future."
I turned around and walked towards the other end of the hallway. From behind the bench came Hua Nghien's suppressed sobbing. I didn't turn back.
