He stood up, walked around the desk and walked in front of me.

"Sister Royal, it's only been three years since I ascended the throne. I don't know how many people up and down the court are waiting to find fault with me. If I let it go this time, and in the future everyone will dare to join forces to cause trouble, so will I still be able to sit on this throne of my son?"

I looked at the deep tiredness in his eyes, feeling like someone was choking me. He was only eighteen years old. An eighteen-year-old heavenly boy, sitting on that cold dragon chair, had to think with every step of how many eyes on the court were watching him.

“I didn't necessarily want to kill them, but they were determined to cause trouble.”

After speaking, he gently lowered his eyelashes, reached out and gently held my hand.

"Tu Hoai, the royal sister will always stand behind you. The punishment is too heavy, it's inevitable that there will be people who have negative opinions about you, it's better to give him a happy death."

On the day of the execution, the sky was blindingly blue. The execution ground at Dong Market was packed with people. I stood on the tavern next to the execution ground, looking down from the second floor window, I could clearly see every scene on the execution platform. Trieu Nguyen Hanh was tied tightly to a wooden stake, his hair was messy, his face was as yellow as paper. His legs hung limply, his prison uniform was torn in several places, the wind blew in, causing the hem of his shirt to bulge and then deflate, just like a dying pigeon desperately struggling with its wings. He raised his head, his eyes scanning over and over again across the crowded sea of people. Passing by the crowd of ordinary people standing in front watching the excitement, passing by the Forbidden Army team maintaining order, passing by the mandarins sitting on the beheading platform, then passing by the tavern next to the execution site... His eyes stopped. He saw me. The lips moved slightly, but only intermittent hoarse sounds came out. I tilted my head and said to General Manager Ly standing next to me.

“Go down there and ask him if he has anything else to say.”

General Manager Ly bent down to receive his orders. A moment later, he returned, leaned close to my ear and whispered a report.

"Princess, Trieu Nguyen Hanh said... he said he was sorry to you. He said that night, he scolded you without asking clearly. He said when he chased you out of the palace, he wanted to apologize to you, but you didn't give him a chance."

General Manager Ly paused for a moment.

"He said, please respect that he knew he was wrong, please forgive him and give him a way to live."

The wind blew in from outside the window, the sideburns falling on my temples gently brushed my cheeks, bringing with it a cold and itchy feeling. I was silent for a while.

“You go down and talk to him——”

I suddenly stopped and looked at the person tied up on the execution platform. Amid the bustle of the whole street, he still looked up at me, his eyes filled with the desire to live and despair, like a moth that had been trampled into the mud and still trying to struggle with its wings.

"You tell him, this palace originally intended to spare him a way to live, but he himself blocked his last way of life."

General Manager Ly bowed to receive orders and then retreated. On the execution platform, after hearing the words, Trieu Nguyen Hanh's whole body seemed to be drained of his last breath. His head dropped, his shoulders slumped, even the last struggling rays of light in his eyes were complete completely turned off. Those once delicate eyes, those eyes that once reflected the brilliant red color of joy under the candlelight, are now only a color of ash and a silent aura of death.

“It's time —— execution!”

A commotion immediately arose in the crowd. The people standing in the front row watching the excitement all stood on tiptoe and pushed their way to the front, while the people behind stretched their necks to look in. There were cowardly women who quickly covered their children's eyes with their hands and backed away. There were also scoundrels who whistled and cheered. I turned around and stepped onto the palanquin. On the street, the shop selling pies was still steaming white smoke, the seller of gourd candy was still carrying a bundle of grass along the road while hawking his wares, a few children were chasing a rolling stone ball, laughter hitting the green stone walls and then echoing back. The capital city is still the capital city. Still bustling, still full of life, not asking where people came from, nor asking where they are going. So... very good. The apricot blossom will bloom again, the snow will melt, and spring will return. (COMPLETE STORY)
