Chapter 5
Chapter 5 — On the night of the wedding, he said we were just husband and wife in name, I quietly wrote a letter of separation
“Daughter-in-law listens to her mother.”
When she returned to the main courtyard, Thu Hoa's eyes were red.
“Young lady, do you really want to go?”
“So... do you bring slaves with you?”
I turned my head to look at her. This girl has been following me for three years, from a naive little maid, now she has matured into a dignified and understanding figure. Yet at this moment, she cried so much that her eyes were red and even the tip of her nose was red.
"The Tu Ward is missing a housekeeper, are you willing to go?"
She immediately nodded so hard that tears splattered onto her shirt.
"I wish! This servant wishes!"
I raised my hand to wipe her face.
"Then stop crying. Before you go, there's still a play to play."
The day the mother chose was the day the whole family gathered for a meal every month. The second and third rooms were crowded, the whole room was filled with people. The table was full of steaming hot dishes, but no one moved their chopsticks. The mother sat in the upper seat, her face calm and gloomy. I stood next to her, holding the other two pieces of paper in my hand.
“Today I called everyone here because there is something that needs to be clarified in front of the clan.”
The mother looked around, finally her eyes stopped on Chu Hoai Can.
“Hoai Can, stand up.”
Chu Hoai Can stood up from the male guest table. He was a bit thinner, and light blue dark circles appeared under his eyes. The mother brought the contract from three years ago and slammed it on the table.
“This was signed by you?”
Chu Hoai Can's eyes stopped on the yellowed page, his lips pressed tightly into a line. All eyes in the room turned to him. Lieu Nhu Hue curled up and sat in the corner, her face as white as paper. His voice was so low that it was almost inaudible.
"The day we got married, you established this kind of rule with her. You didn't share a room with your main wife for three years, yet you let a concubine ride on top of your mother's head and act strangely..."
The model's voice became increasingly heavier.
“You have been reading books of saints and sages for so many years, yet what you get done is not as good as a bunch of porters on the street!”
The whole room was silent. The women in the second and third rooms looked at each other, but no one dared to speak.
“Three rules.”
The mother read out every sentence and every word.
"The first thing is, I can't step into your heavenly courtyard, and she can't even take a single step in my main courtyard."
"Second, if you don't sleep with me tonight, then there's no need to mention it again in this life."
“Third, if your wife urges you to continue your children, you must take responsibility yourself.”
After reading it, she slammed the contract down on the table, shaking so much that the bowl and chopsticks jingled.
"Hoai Can, you really have a lot of ability! Married for three years, leaving the main wife without asking even once, and instead pampering a step-sister who lives up to the sky."
"In these three years, has Lady Uan ever made you feel angry once? Has she ever come to your heavenly courtyard to cause trouble once? Has she ever gone out and said a bad word about you?"
Chu Hoai Can's throat moved slightly, but he still couldn't say a word. The mother turned to Lieu Nhu Hue again.
"Miss Liu, you have lived at the Chu family's house for many years, and all of your food and clothing expenses were taken care of by the Chu family. After the young lady entered the house, she treated you somewhat poorly. Not yet?"
Lieu Nhu Hue's lips trembled, it took a long time before she could barely utter two words:
“Never.”
“So the words you said in the heavenly courtyard, the rumors you spread outside, are you saying that I am deaf or that the Chu family has no rules?”
“Model…”
“Call ma'am.”
The mother coldly interrupted her.
“Since you have entered Hoai Can's heavenly courtyard, you are now a concubine. The concubine calls the master mother madame, I don't need to teach you these rules."
Lieu Nhu Hue's whole body trembled, tears immediately fell. Chu Hoai Can instinctively wanted to open his mouth, but was forced back by a cold look from his mother.
“Do you still have the face to speak for her?”
At this point, I took a step forward, using both hands to offer the cup and book in front of the mother.
“The daughter-in-law asked for a divorce.”
The whole room immediately stirred. Even the second aunt couldn't help but interrupt:
“Young lady, do you need to think about this matter further?”
"No need."
