Chapter 1
Chapter 1 — On the Snowy Night of Bereavement, I Used the Golden Token of Immunity to Overturn the Whole Family
On a snowy night that covered all the doors, the husband punished his six-year-old son to kneel in the middle of the yard.
“Let him remember his life, we will come back tomorrow.”
Having finished speaking, he led the woman to the hot springs mansion outside the city. The servants did not dare to disobey his orders and risked their lives to stop me. By the time I got out, the boy was frozen in the cold snow. I hugged its small body, and my heart followed suit and became numb. That night, I rummaged through the bottom of the dowry chest to find the Dan Thu Thiet To (death-immunity token) that my father left behind, and went directly to the palace to ask for an audience. The next morning, the moment he received the decree, his whole person collapsed to the ground.
“Why… why do you have this…”
I looked at his collapsed appearance and felt extremely ridiculous... Heavy snow covered the doors. The north wind blew cold snow particles, like a knife blade cutting through the window paper, emitting a chilling "squeak" sound. I knelt on the cold ground, bowing my head again and again. My forehead was already red and swollen, and blood was still leaking out, but I didn't feel any pain.
“Husband, I beg you, Hang Nhi is only six years old, he will freeze to death!”
Co Canh Minh was wearing an ink-colored brocade robe, his body was as straight as a pine tree, his appearance was handsome, but in his eyes looking towards me, there was not the slightest bit of heat.
“Because he is only six years old, it is even more important for him to remember life.”
His voice was as cold as the weather right now.
"Theft must be stopped from a young age, otherwise when we grow up, what kind of system will we have?"
I kept shaking my head, tears blurring my vision.
"Hang Nhi did not steal! That jade pendant is mine, I gave it to him! He did not steal!"
Standing next to Co Canh Minh, Lieu Nhu Yen was wearing a thin light pink robe, her body was as weak as a willow branch in the wind, leaning gently against him, timidly speaking:
"Sister, don't blame Canh Minh, it's all Nhu Yen's fault."
"Nhu Yen shouldn't value that jade pendant so much, after all, it was the first gift Canh Minh gave me..."
Her voice was so soft that it seemed like it could be squeezed out of water, but each word she uttered was like a poisonous needle, piercing deep into my heart. Co Canh Minh wrapped his arms around her waist, his tone becoming gentler than ever.
"It has nothing to do with her, it's because I didn't raise you well."
He lowered his eyes slightly, his gaze fell on her, and that bit of gentleness disappeared in the blink of an eye.
"Hua Tri Y, if you continue to cause trouble without reason, do you believe that I will even punish you?"
My heart suddenly sank. This is my husband, the person I have been married to for seven years. I take care of the family for him, respect his mother, and raise my children. But because of the woman he brought back from Thanh Lau, he wanted to take my and his biological child and freeze him to death right in this yard. In the yard, six-year-old Hang Nhi was wearing a thin dress, her small body knelt in the thick snow that covered her knees, she was so cold that she shivered constantly. When it saw me, it wanted to cry but didn't dare cry, so it could only softly call out:
“Nang… Hang Nhi is cold…”
My heart was almost broken. I struggled to stand I woke up and wanted to rush out and hug my child. However, two strong-bodied women held my shoulders tightly, making me completely unable to move. This is Co Canh Minh's order.
“Let him kneel there, let him reflect on himself well.”
Co Canh Minh finally glanced coldly at me, as if he was looking at a crazy person causing trouble for no reason.
“We'll come back to check tomorrow.”
Having finished speaking, he picked up the large mink coat next to him and gently draped it over Lieu Nhu Yen's body.
"Let's go, the special hot spring site outside the city has been prepared. Soaking in the hot spring on a snowy day really has a different taste."
Lieu Nhu Yen shyly nodded. Before leaving, she turned around and threw me a winner's smile. The door was slammed shut. In the room, the fire was burning brightly, but I felt like I was falling into an ice cellar.
"Let me go! You let me go!"
I struggled like crazy, stabbing with my head and biting with my teeth. The women did not dare to act too harshly, but in the end I found an opening. I rolled and crawled out. The wind and snow in the yard are getting bigger and bigger. Hang Nhi's small body was covered by more than half of the falling snow. It knelt there, motionless, like a small statue amidst the white snow.
"Hang Nhi! Hang Nhi!"
I screamed mournfully and rushed straight forward. I brushed away the accumulated snow on its body, wanting to hug it up. However, its body had completely stiffened. The little face was purple, the lips were dark, and there was no longer any breathing. My child... Is dead. I hugged its small, cold body, unable to make even a single sound. In my heart, it seems like there is a place that also crumbles and dies. I don't know how much time has passed, I can no longer feel the cold, nor can I feel the pain anymore. Only an extremely numb emptiness remains. I hugged Hang Nhi, step by step, walking back to my hospital. The servants looked at me with pity and fear in their eyes, but no one dared to step forward. I gently placed Hang Nhi on the bed, covering her carefully with the blanket, as if she were just sleeping soundly. Then, I walked to the deepest corner of the room. There was a camphor wooden chest covered with dust. That is my dowry. I opened the chest and turned out a small purple wooden box at the bottom. Inside quietly lies a token cast from mysterious iron.
