Chapter 3 — Rebirth 10 Days Before the End of the World

Agricultural tools. I bought 5 sets of each type. I'm actually not very familiar with these things, so if I see anything that seems useful I buy it. Leaving the market, I saw a bookstore next door and suddenly thought I should buy more school supplies for the children. Exam questions. Reference books. Literature, math, English. Geography, history. Drawing books, art books. As far as studying is concerned, from second grade to the end of high school, I have prepared enough for three children. I guess when they see it they will probably cry. Who's family is going to have to study after the end of the world? Ha ha. Filling the car up, I started driving home.

"Hello, Truong Thanh, how are you with me?"

"The tunnel has been covered with a thick layer of insulating cotton. The area has also been divided. Construction materials have been transported to the mountain. Construction will officially start tomorrow. Are you home yet?"

“I'm on my way, less than an hour away.”

"Okay, let's go home. Drive slowly, pay attention to safety."

When I arrived at the homestay, I saw Truong Thanh sitting there, his face full of confidence.

“What's wrong?”

"I'm scared, Than Than. Am I that useless? I don't want you to worry, but actually I'm still very scared."

"It's okay. We try to prepare well. At least in this life we can still be with our families. That is already God's favor."

"Yes. We must live well."

“Truong Thanh, roughly how long does it take to renovate?”

"I paid double the salary, told them to call more people. They promised to complete it in six days."

"Yes. The supplies will be delivered tomorrow afternoon. There are too many people on the mountain right now, so I rented a warehouse on the edge of town. They will deliver the goods there. Once the repairs are finished, we will wait until it gets dark and then transport them to the tunnel, it will be safer."

Just like that, everything passed in anxiety. Truong Thanh oversees the construction and installation of solar panels. As for me, I checked supplies, made up for shortages, and ran around supermarkets and wholesale markets every day to buy and buy, little by little filling up the entire warehouse. If the cellar is not yet completed, I may have to rent another warehouse. One day Truong Thanh called.

"Than Than, go to the basement. It's finished, I'll come check it out."

I arrived. The outside is still the same as before, overgrown with weeds, no changes can be seen, as if no one has ever existed here. Going deeper inside, a door appears as thick and heavy as the door of a bank safe. Truong Thanh entered the password and the door opened. On the left is a large living room, with a sofa and TV. On the right is a semi-open kitchen, with a long dining table enough for twelve people. Going further inside, on the left is the first bedroom, on the door is written "Thanh Than".

"This is our room. Opposite is the surveillance room. I'll stay a little closer to the door, so I can monitor the cameras." Truong Thanh said.

The second room says "Sister". That is the room of the eldest sister and brother-in-law. Opposite is a bathroom. Public toilet style but can take a simple shower.

“Where can I get water to bathe?” I asked.

"I drilled three water wells next door and installed a filtration system. Water for daily use and cooking is definitely enough. But for drinking water, you should still use bottled water to be safe."

The third room, labeled "Treasure", is the room of three children. The fourth room belongs to the brother and sister-in-law. The fifth room is my parents' room. The sixth room belongs to Truong Thanh's mother and grandmother. The rooms opposite are all storage rooms, A place to keep all supplies. I noticed there was another room inside.

“What is this?”

I opened the door. Diesel generator. Oil barrels are full.

"I installed a solar battery. This oil is for emergencies."

Go deeper, there is another door. Open it up, your eyes are wide open. Behind the tunnel is a large mountain range. This tunnel is located halfway up the mountain. Truong Thanh has enclosed a flat area of land in front with a high wall. I also saw a dense electric grid up there. In the yard there is also a small stream flowing through. I almost couldn't believe it.

“Truong Thanh, when did you come up with this idea?”
