Chapter 5
Chapter 5 — Return to Xiangnan Military Region
Tong Dinh Nien's throat moved slightly, he tried to stay calm: "It's just a few polite words, I'm doing it for your good. Do you want everyone to think I'm taking advantage of my position to bring my fiancee into the unit?" Mai Tu Khanh looked at him for a long time, then turned away, smiling bitterly: "You know a lot, surely what you say is right." Tong Dinh Nien's eyes flashed with pride mixed with a bit of contempt, then he led her to the restaurant. In the restaurant, a gathering was taking place at this time. Several round tables were grouped together, creating an extremely bustling atmosphere. Tong Dinh Nien chose a hidden corner to sit with Mai Tu Khanh, but still could not avoid the curious eyes focused on them. A young soldier sitting next to him picked up food and asked: "Girl, how old are you? Do you have a lover?" Just as Tong Dinh Nien was about to answer, Mai Tu Khanh smiled sweetly and answered emphatically: "Not yet." In the army, where there were many men and few women, immediately the eyes of some young soldiers lit up. When Tong Dinh Nien saw this, his heart choked and he slammed his chopsticks on the table: "She only came temporarily, she could be sent away at any time, she won't be here for long. Why are you asking about such things?" Mai Tu Khanh looked at his gloomy face and softly advised: "Brother, don't be angry, everyone just cares. If you try hard, maybe you can stay." Seeing her carefree appearance as if he didn't know anything, Tong Dinh Nien took a deep breath and looked serious: "Come out with me." The two walked to a hidden place, Tong Dinh Nien's face darkened: "Why did you answer those questions and say you don't have a lover yet?" Mai Tu Khanh's heart grew cold little by little, feeling both amused and ridiculous. Tong Dinh Nien clearly does not love her, but sees her as his personal property. She pretended to be innocent and asked again: "I just said it conveniently. Didn't you tell me not to let anyone know about our relationship?" When she used her own words to refute, Tong Dinh Nien was angry but could not find a reason to refute. He tried to suppress his anger and said: "Don't talk to the soldiers anymore. People easily misunderstand and then report it to superiors. If it becomes an ethical issue, it will be very troublesome." As soon as he finished speaking, Mr. Ly from the logistics team walked by with a pot of soup and smiled happily: "Brother Tong, next time we gather, remember to invite nurse Tu too! Everyone is still waiting to drink to celebrate the two of you!" Mai Tu Khanh's heart ached, but she still pretended not to understand, frowned and asked: "What kind of celebration wine?" Tong Dinh Nien immediately pulled her arm: "I suddenly remembered that I left something at your place, let's go get it." Waiting until the two turned onto a quiet side street, Mai Tu Khanh spoke up: "What does the old captain mean by that?" Tong Dinh Nien's voice was full of confusion and dissatisfaction: "Don't pay attention. It's Tu San who keeps clinging to me to ask for help for this or that. People in the barracks spread word of mouth to each other and then misunderstand!" Under the moonlight, Tong Dinh Nien's lowered eyebrows and eyes looked like a person feeling sorry for himself because he was wronged. Mai Tu Khanh gently closed her eyes. When she opened it, her eyes were filled with tears. She deliberately said with a serious look: "How can people say bad things about you like that, affecting your reputation? How about we go find a leader to reflect everything clearly now?" Tong Dinh Nien's face immediately changed and he reflexively said: "No way!" Mai Tu Khanh tilted her head and asked again: "Why not? Wouldn't that affect your future?" Tong Dinh Nien awkwardly defended: "Nurse Tu's family has some connections, if you go and report it, it will be like slapping them in the face. Don't worry, I will handle it well in the future." Mai Tu Khanh looked worried: "Okay, I don't know anything, just listen to me." Turning away, the corner of her eye was almost there
I couldn't hold back the tears that were threatening to flow. The lies and excuses from the past echoed in my ears like an old song. Tong Dinh Nien has always been like that, treating her like an idiot and deceiving her over and over again. She knew clearly she shouldn't believe it, but there was still a bit of stupid and ridiculous hope left in her heart. The next morning, as soon as she arrived at the military hospital and changed into a white blouse, Mai Tu Khanh heard whispers outside the hallway. "I heard that this girl was forced to be brought in by Captain Tong..." "No wonder, rescuing the chief yesterday was probably just an act..." She pushed the door and walked out. The sound of the door opening made the two nurses who were talking immediately stop. Mai Tu Khanh pretended not to hear anything and walked straight towards the examination table. Just at that moment, a new recruit who had just dislocated his shoulder during training was brought in, and was in so much pain that he was sweating profusely. She walked over and held his shoulder tightly, only to hear a crisp "crack" sound, the soldier's arm immediately returned to position, able to move immediately. The people standing behind watching the excitement all stared in surprise, some whispered: "Look at that, the workmanship is quite good." All morning, there were a lot of patients coming for examination, but Mai Tu Khanh handled them all properly. In the afternoon, when she walked out of the restaurant holding a tray of rice, she saw Tong Dinh Nien standing in front of her. Several subordinates around him were laughing and joking. "The company chief is really good. He conveniently arranged for a relative to become a genius doctor!"
