Chapter 24 — Sassy Boy: Heir to the Underground Family

Le Quy Don School's graduation ceremony took place on a beautiful sunny late summer day, when the school yard was decorated with congratulatory banners and bustling music echoed throughout the campus. This is the day that all twelfth grade students have been looking forward to for many school years, marking the end of a journey and the opening of a new chapter in each person's life.

Dieu Linh stood in the middle of the row of students, her hands clasped with the diploma she had just received, her eyes searching for a familiar figure in the crowd. It was not difficult for her to find Vinh Bach, standing with Trong Nghia and Duy Khang in the distance, all three wearing neat graduation uniforms, looking like there was no trace left of the students who once caused chaos in this school.

"Can you believe it, we've actually graduated," Khanh Linh said, running to hug Dieu Linh, her eyes red with emotion. "After everything we've been through, I don't think I could have imagined this day would come so quickly."

"Me too," Dieu Linh replied, hugging her best friend tightly. "Thank you, for always being by my side, through everything."

After the official ceremony, when families began to gather to take commemorative photos throughout the school yard, Vinh Bach came to Dieu Linh, holding a small bouquet of carefully selected flowers.

"Congratulations on your graduation," he said, handing her the bouquet of flowers, a rare bright smile on his face.

"Thank you," Dieu Linh replied, receiving the bouquet, her eyes sparkling with happiness. "We did it, right? Overcoming everything to get to today."

"We did it," Vinh Bach confirmed, taking her hand. "And I thought, this is the right time to do something I've been meaning to do for a long time."

To Dieu Linh's surprise, Vinh Bach suddenly held her hand and led her to the entire crowd of students and parents still gathered in the school yard. Trong Nghia, who seemed to have known this plan in advance, quickly played a gentle piece of music from the mobile speaker he brought, attracting the attention of everyone around him.

"Can everyone please pay attention?" Vinh Bach spoke loudly, his voice echoing throughout the schoolyard, causing the crowd to gradually quiet down and turn curiously towards him.

Dieu Linh stood frozen, not understanding what was going on, her face was red because she suddenly became the center of attention.

"During the past two years, I have experienced many things that I never thought I would have to face," Vinh Bach said, his sincere voice resounding before the entire crowd. "But the most important thing I learned is thanks to the girl standing next to me - To Dieu Linh."

Surprised whispers spread throughout the crowd. Many old classmates remembered the rumors that had swirled during the first year of school when Vinh Bach suddenly moved to sit next to her.

"I know, our relationship started in a not entirely simple way," Vinh Bach continued, looking straight at Dieu Linh. "But through all the challenges we overcame together, I realized more clearly than ever that this is the person I want to spend my future cherishing and protecting."

He turned to Dieu Linh, his voice became softer, reserved only for her, although still loud enough for those around him to hear. "Dieu Linh, thank you for choosing to trust me even when I didn't deserve that trust, for standing firmly by my side through all dangers, and for letting me know what it means to be loved sincerely, without calculation. I want the whole world to know that, from today, I am proud to publicly declare that you are the person I love the most."

Dieu Linh stood silently, tears of happiness began to well up in the corners of her eyes. She looked around, saw Khanh Linh clapping and cheering, saw her parents standing in the corner of the yard with a warm, proud smile, saw Duong Khai Phong and Lam Chinh Dao standing quietly watching from afar with satisfied eyes.

"Vinh Bach," she said, her voice shaking with emotion. "Me too. From the first day you saved me in that classroom, until now, I have never regretted any moment we experienced together, no matter how difficult or dangerous it was. I'm proud to be the person you love, and I love you too, with all my heart."

Applause and cheers echoed throughout the schoolyard when Vinh Bach pulled Dieu Linh into a tight hug, both smiling amid bursts of happiness in the presence of friends, family, and those who had accompanied them throughout their recent turbulent journey.

Mr. To Van Duc stepped closer and patted Vinh Bach's shoulder, his eyes unable to hide his emotions. “You kept your promise,” he said. "I couldn't expect anything more from someone who will accompany my daughter in the future."

"I will always keep that promise, sir," Vinh Bach replied, bowing his head respectfully.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong also walked over, hugged Dieu Linh, and whispered into her daughter's ear. "I'm glad that you have found your own happiness, even though the road to get there is not easy."

"Thank you, mother, for always believing in me," Dieu Linh replied, tears rolling down from happiness.

Duong Khai Phong and Lam Chinh Dao moved closer, both carrying rare smiles on their always serious faces. "Your father would be very proud to witness this moment," Duong Khai Phong said, his voice filled with emotion. "Not only because you have become a worthy leader, but also because you have found your own true happiness."

"Thank you, uncle, for always supporting me, even when I still have many shortcomings," Vinh Bach replied, squeezing his uncle's hand.

Duy Khang and Trong Nghia also chimed in, unable to hide their mischievous smiles. "Finally you dare to go public," Trong Nghia teased, nudging Vinh Bach's shoulder. "I've been waiting for this moment for a long time."

"Congratulations, you two," Duy Khang added, his eyes sincere. "I'm glad to have witnessed such a beautiful ending to the story, after all that has happened."

The whole group of friends and family gathered together in the schoolyard filled with afternoon sunlight, taking commemorative photos that will be preserved forever - not only marking graduation day, but also marking the official beginning of a relationship that has been tested through many ups and downs to reach the shore of happiness.

That afternoon, as everyone gradually left the schoolyard, Vinh Bach and Dieu Linh climbed together to the familiar rooftop for the last time as students of Le Quy Don school, watching the sunset falling over the city from the position that had witnessed so many important moments in their story.

"Do you think, what our future will be like?" Dieu Linh asked, leaning her head on his shoulder.

"I don't know exactly what it will be like," Vinh Bach replied, wrapping his arms around her. "But I know one thing for sure — whatever challenges the future brings, we will face it together, with the absolute trust we have built through all we have been through."

Dieu Linh smiled, held his hand tightly, feeling the certainty and warmth in each of those words. "Yes," Vinh Bach replied, squeezing her hand tighter. "But for the first time in my life, I'm actually looking forward to what's ahead, instead of just being afraid and wary of it like before."
