Chapter 1
Chapter 1 — Steal My Dean's Chair? The Director personally handled it
Stole My Dean's Chair, Still Want Me To Mentor You? The Director issued an announcement to the entire Institute. Tong Co, Deputy Director, The position of Head of the Internal Medicine Department of City Hospital No. 2 originally belonged to me. However, right before the announcement of the appointment decision, the list was secretly changed by the Deputy Director to his niece's name. During the meeting, she stood on the podium, smiled and said:
“Doctor Tham, I hope you will cooperate with me more in the future.”
I placed my resignation letter on the Rector's desk.
“The person you approved was me. But the one sitting in that position now is her.”
The director immediately picked up the phone:
“Open the meeting room now.”
"Today's matter, no one is allowed to let it go."
I placed my resignation letter on the Director's desk just as he took off his jacket. Principal Luc saw the envelope and immediately frowned.
“Tham Nghien Thu, what do you mean?”
I stood in front of my desk.
"Dear Director Luc, thank you for your care and help over the years. I am no longer suitable to continue staying at Hospital No. 2."
He did not open the letter.
“Because of the appointment?”
“I can accept that I wasn't chosen.”
“But I cannot accept the list being changed in the middle of the night.”
Principal Luc raised his head.
“What did you say?”
I pushed the phone with the public announcement screenshot open towards him.
“The person you approved is me.”
“But on the official website now it says Phuong Nha.”
“The niece of Deputy Director Phuong Thanh Hai.”
Director Luc's hand that was placed on the rim of the cup stopped. I continue:
“She's been in the hospital for less than two years.”
“Even the night shift record book had to be written by a nurse.”
“As for me, in the past five years there have been no complaints about any surgery.”
“Three essays.”
“A provincial research topic.”
“If that's still the case, I'll accept it.”
“But I don't accept this kind of loss.”
Director Luc stared at the screenshot and said nothing for a long time. I pushed the resignation letter forward a little more.
“I didn't come here to make a fuss.”
“I just came to say goodbye.”
I turned around to leave.
“Tham Nghien Thu.”
I stopped walking. Director Luc spoke up:
“Last night your teacher asked when you would come home to eat.”
I didn't turn back.
“Dear Director, I would like to leave that family meal for another time.”
His voice lowered.
“You don't have to bear this alone.”
I put my hand on the door handle.
"I know."
“But today, I want to see if the rules of this hospital are still worth my staying.”
Outside the door, the footsteps of someone from the human resources department were heard. The phone vibrated once. It's a message from Phuong Nha.
“Doctor Tham, I heard you snitched?”
“It's a pity, tomorrow the appointment decision will officially take effect.”
“From now on, this department will be decided by me.”
I deleted the message then pushed the door open and walked out. Briefing session the next morning. Phuong Thanh Hai personally came. He stood at the head of the room, smiling calmly as if everything was under control.
“Comrades, after careful study and consideration by the hospital leadership, we decided to appoint comrade Phuong Nha to the position of Acting Head of Internal Medicine Department.”
Phuong Nha wore a brand new white blouse. The nameplate on the chest is wiped shiny.
“Thank you... no, thank you, Deputy Principal Phuong.”
Some people bowed their heads. Someone pretended to turn over medical records. Nurse Chu Ninh was holding the medicine tray, her hands clenched until they turned white. Phuong Nha looked towards me.
"Doctor Tham has a lot of experience. I hope she can teach you more in the future."
I closed the medical record.
“I will do what is my responsibility.”
Phuong Nha burst out laughing.
“What about things that are not your responsibility?”
I looked at her.
“For example, cleaning up the mess you caused.”
Someone in the meeting room couldn't help but cough. The smile on Phuong Thanh Hai's face faded a bit.
“Doctor Tham, it's a good thing for young people to have ability.”
“But don't let your emotions take over.”
“Hospitals must be organized and disciplined.”
I nodded.
“So please explain to me first who edited the public list.”
Phuong Nha immediately interjected:
“Doctor Tham, are you doubting the leader?”
“I doubt the process.”
“The process is also set by the leadership.”
I calmly replied:
“So we have to be able to withstand questioning.”
Phuong Thanh Hai tapped his hand on the table.
“Today is the announcement of the appointment decision, not your place to complain.”
I won't say anything more. Phuong Nha thought I had given in, so she immediately opened the duty roster.
“First thing, rearrange the night duty schedule.”
Chu Ninh spoke softly:
"Doctor Tran is seven months pregnant and cannot be on duty continuously at night."
Phuong Nha didn't even bother to look at her.
“The hospital was not opened by her.”
Doctor Tran bowed his head in silence. I picked up the pen and drew a line on the duty roster.
“She can't be on this shift.”
Phuong Nha stared at me.
“Based on what did you change the schedule I arranged?”
"Based on the fact that last week she just submitted an application to adjust her duty regime during pregnancy, and the Medical Affairs Department has received the application."
Chu Ninh immediately took out the photocopy. The smile on Phuong Nha's face disappeared. Phuong Thanh Hai reached out to receive the paper.
"Special cases can be flexibly adjusted, but the Dean still has the right to overall coordination."
I calmly replied:
“The head of the department also has no right to make fun of patient safety.”
Phuong Nha bit her lips tightly.
“Doctor Tham, are you unable to accept me sitting in this position?”
I looked at her.
“I don't care whether you sit or not.”
“What I care about is whether you can sit firmly or not.”
The briefing room immediately fell silent. Phuong Thanh Hai glanced at me.
“Tham Nghien Thu, you are very good.”
I pushed the duty roster back.
“I've always been very good.”
“It's just that no one has ever had to be afraid before.”
That afternoon, a new announcement appeared in the faculty chat group. Phuong Nha asked all doctors to submit treatment plans for her to personally review each version. Senior doctor Manh Khai Minh immediately slammed the phone down on the table.
“She approved my plan?”
Chu Ninh was so angry that his eyes turned red.
"She hasn't even read the medical records that Director Manh was in charge of."
I continue to organize medical records.
