Chapter 4 — Ten Years of Love, His Proposal Was Just a Bet

Everyone left, the hall went from noisy to quiet, in less than ten minutes. The white light shined on me, shining on the light USB in my hand. The sound of applause suddenly rang out, the sound of high heels tapping on the marble floor. Tong Y walked in from the side door, leisurely.

"As expected of your parents' daughter. This stubborn stubbornness is exactly like theirs. They have not yet turned back before crashing into the Nam wall."

“Actually,” She bent down to look at her nails, “When you opened the press conference, Luong Thuat asked me if I wanted to stop you, just a matter of a word.”

“But I thought again, giving you hope, then crushing it myself, that would be even more wonderful.”

She raised her head, her smile deepened, her words were full of cruelty: "That's right, before your parents died, they both begged me not to harm you." The thread of reason suddenly broke in that moment. I raised my hand, my palm carrying the sound of the wind, but someone caught me midway. The force was so great that it caused pain in the joints.

“What are you so mad about?”

Luong Thuat frowned slightly, his face full of disagreement. My voice was lost due to anger, so high-pitched that I didn't even realize it:

"Am I mad? Do you know that the Song family..."

Before he finished speaking, Tong Y squinted his eyes, his tone full of joy: "Do you think he doesn't know?" Her eyes carried pity that she didn't bother to hide. She slowly continued: "He knew everything from the beginning."

“When I saved you before, I was only thinking that if everything would fall apart later, I would use you as cannon fodder for me.”

“Thanks to me, you have the opportunity to be by his side, otherwise you would just be struggling in that dirty mud puddle.”

"Do you understand? You were never an exception, you were just a pawn."

Even though the relationship ended, I still didn't dare to believe that from the first day, everything he did was just for Tong Y. I stiffly turned my head and looked towards Luong Thuat. There was no expression on his face, not even a hint of avoidance.

“Luong Thuat.” I heard my own voice, broken. “You knew from the beginning that my parents were murdered by the Song family.”

His throat rolled a bit before he finally spoke. One word, like a sledgehammer blow, crushed the last remaining warmth in my chest. It turns out that's it. It turns out that ten years of companionship were all just calculations. The sincere heart that I consider a treasure is just a card for him to use to balance the situation. I looked at him and suddenly felt extremely strange, to the point that even hatred became redundant. I removed his fingers one by one, without looking at anyone else, turned and walked out of the hall. Before takeoff, Huong Van came to see me off, his eyes red.

"The matter of aunts and uncles has been suppressed." She sniffled, "Luong Thuat ordered someone to do it."

I don't know why he did that. Probably to control public opinion to the extent he wants. Maybe I just gave him a slap and a date, so I would obediently go back and look for him. Or maybe it's because of Tong Y... But it doesn't matter anymore.

“Van Van,” I hugged her, “If you have free time, come to Melbourne to play with me.”

She nodded strongly: “Remember to take care of yourself.”
