Chapter 7
Chapter 7 — The day I stopped taking care of the books, the Marquis Palace collapsed
So straight that my chest feels a little sour. I bowed my head and continued to look at the books.
“It won't be like that anymore.”
Ninh Van Tieu sat down in front of the table.
"Luong Tung's case, she continues to investigate."
"Whoever dares to stop, report the name of this king."
I nodded. He called again:
“Cui Linh Nghi.”
“The goddess is here.”
“Check the books, check the books.”
“Don't damage your body.”
The tip of my pen suddenly stopped. He didn't look at me. Just bowed his head and continued to look through the books. The candlelight shone on his profile, cold and sharp as a blade. But that blade, at this moment, is blocking my face. I said softly:
“Thank you, Your Majesty.”
He replied softly. Two days later, Luong Tung was arrested. Lam Kieu Kieu, as an accomplice, was escorted to Tam Ty prison. She no longer pretends to be weak. During the interrogation, she bit one person after another. She said Bui Huyen Do secretly allowed her to touch the relief money. She said that all of the Marquis's deficit was because I falsified the books to hide it. She even said that I entered the Thanh Truong Department because I wanted to take revenge on the Marquis Palace. That day, Ninh Van Tieu personally interrogated her. I stood to the side and took notes. When Lam Kieu Kieu saw me, his eyes were filled with resentment.
"Cui Linh Nghi, now that you have climbed to the top of Regent, you will turn around and trample on your ex-husband's family."
“Do you dare to say that you are innocent?”
Before I could open my mouth, Ninh Van Tieu coldly said:
“Slap mouth.”
The Imperial Army immediately advanced. Two crisp sounds rang out. Lam Kieu Kieu's face immediately became red and swollen. She couldn't believe it and looked towards Ninh Van Tieu.
“King!”
Ninh Van Tieu's expression was still cold as before.
“Slandering the orders of imperial officials.”
“The crime increased by one level.”
Finally, Lam Kieu Kieu was really scared. She burst into tears.
“Your Majesty, the women are just too scared.”
“A woman is just a helpless girl.”
“If women do not calculate for themselves, who else will calculate for them?”
If these words were said in front of Bui Huyen Do, perhaps they could be softened. But Ninh Van Tieu didn't even look at her. He just looked at the book in his hand.
“When you embezzled money from soldiers' families, you were calculating for yourself.”
“When you secretly changed the fabric of your winter clothes, you were also calculating for yourself.”
"When you set fire to the revenue room, you were still calculating for yourself."
He raised his eyes.
“Then go into the dungeon and continue calculating.”
Lam Kieu Kieu's whole body went limp and fell to the ground. After the case was convicted, the Luong family's assets were confiscated, and Lam Kieu Kieu was exiled to the Southwestern labor camp. The Marquis of Vu An Palace was fined silver, his title was temporarily retained, but his military power was cut by more than half. Bui Huyen Do was not sent to prison. However, for a Prince with a martial background, losing military power is even more painful than being punished. The day the case ended, I walked out of Tam Ty. The sunset on the horizon is red like fire. Ninh Van Tieu stood shoulder to shoulder with me on the stone steps.
“After today, there will be even more enemies in her capital.”
"There have been quite a few people who have sinned."
He looked at me.
“Are you afraid?”
I think one at the time.
“With the Royal Family here, don't be afraid.”
As soon as the words left my mouth, I realized I was too close. I was about to add another sentence, when Ninh Van Tieu burst out laughing. The smile is very faint. However, it made the sky turn red on the steps as well as darken a bit. My heartbeat suddenly skipped a beat. But in the next moment, the sound of horse hooves suddenly rang out at the corner of the street. A cold arrow cut through the wind and rushed forward, aiming straight at my heart. Ninh Van Tieu immediately pulled me into his arms. The arrow grazed his shoulder and crashed into the pillar behind him. He lowered his head to look at me, his voice low and scary.
“Cui Linh Nghi, are you injured?”
Ninh Van Tieu's arm was still blocking my waist. His palm was very hot. Separated by a thin layer of official uniform, that heat almost burned my entire spine. The other arrow was still vibrating gently on the pillar. The Forbidden Army instantly spread out to capture the assassins. I was held tightly in his arms, in my ears was the sound of his strong, steady heartbeat.
“Your Majesty, you are injured.”
His shoulder was soaked in blood. The color of the mysterious robe was too dark to see clearly, but the stench of blood couldn't be fooled. Ninh Van Tieu bowed his head and looked at me.
“Ask her.”
I was a little stunned.
“I'm okay.”
His eyebrows relaxed slightly.
“That's good.”
Those three words were said very softly. But my chest felt like someone was squeezing it tightly. Previously at the Marquis Palace, Bui Huyen Do only asked if the matter had been handled, if the books had been adjusted, and if Lam Kieu Kieu would be wronged or not.
