Chapter 9
Chapter 9 — The Disabled Crown Prince scolded me for not knowing how to be honest
But there is only one person who has not yet forgiven. That is the head of the Tan family in Mac Bac. After hearing that Ha Lam wanted to return to Mac Bac with Tan Ngoc and little princess Niem Niem to worship her mother, the Tan family only sent one answer. The big door of the Qin mansion was tightly closed. Do not welcome the emperor. Do not welcome the Queen. Don't allow anyone to open the door. The messenger trembled and knelt in front of Ha Lam.
“The homeowner said…”
“Your Majesty can enter Mac Bac, you can enter this world anywhere.”
“But our Qin family…”
"Don't marry a girl a second time today."
The main hall immediately became quiet. The guards all bowed their heads, not daring to breathe loudly. Since ancient times, who has dared to talk to the emperor like that? But Ha Lam was only silent for a long time. Then, he gently smiled. That smile was not angry. On the contrary, it's a bit bitter.
“The father-in-law is right.”
"That year I didn't know how to appreciate it."
Tan Ngoc stood next to him and looked at him. She understands her father. That year, when he learned that she had broken up with Ha Lam, he was so angry that he fell ill and closed the door to meet anyone. But what hurt him the most was not because the Tan family lost its position as head of state. It was because of the daughter he had cherished for more than twenty years, and brought with him a hundred carts of dowry, happily entering a marriage that the other person had never expected. Thinking of this, Tan Ngoc held Ha Lam's hand.
“Or we should go back to the capital.”
“Father was just temporarily angry.”
But Ha Lam shook his head.
“If I can't even bear my father-in-law's anger.”
“So what right do I have to say I will love you for the rest of my life?”
The next day. The convoy arrives in Mac Bac. But there was no royal ostentatiousness to show off. Ha Lam removed his dragon robe and dressed in plain clothes like a junior returning to pay his respects to his elder. It's just that though. The door of Qin Palace is still tightly closed. From inside came the old but majestic voice of Father Qin.
“Your Majesty the Emperor.”
"That year, my daughter brought a hundred carts of dowry to find someone."
“Now that you have brought the whole world here, the Tan family will not marry their daughter again.”
Hearing that, Tan Ngoc's eyes were slightly red. She wanted to open her mouth to propose love. But Ha Lam gently held her hand. Under everyone's surprised eyes. The Emperor of Dai Thinh slowly knelt down in front of the door of Qin Palace.
"It's the little priest's fault."
There was silence in the palace. Outside the palace was also silent. Even the Mac Bac snow wind seemed to have stopped blowing. Mrs. Tan said coldly:
“Kneel for three hours.”
“Do not use internal strength to fight the cold.”
“There must be no one to cover them.”
“If you can do it, the old man will listen to you.”
Tan Ngoc's face changed.
“Father!”
“Shut up.”
Father Qin interrupted.
"I suffered so much for him that year, so what if he suffers a little today?"
Tan Ngoc choked. In the end, I could only turn my head to look at Ha Lam. But Ha Lam smiled slightly.
"No problem."
“This is something we should endure.”
Three hours later. His shoulders were covered with white snow. Lips were pale. But the spine is still straight. The door to the Qin mansion finally opened. Mrs. Tan stood in front of the door. In his hand he holds a whip.
“Kneel before the spirit of mother A Ngoc.”
“Remember carefully every thing you have done.”
Ha Lam did not hesitate. He knelt down before the spirit. Every sentence and every word said.
“That year, on the big wedding day, I used a rooster instead I worship the road.”
“I leave you alone to face the ridicule of the whole capital.”
“That night of the wedding, I scolded her for taking away her sister's husband.”
"I didn't know that when she returned from Mac Bac, she ran away and killed three war horses."
“I also didn't know that people hurt the most…”
“The one who loves me the most.”
The last sentence just came out. Ha Lam's voice was choked. Father Qin looked at him for a long time. Finally turned around and sent someone to bring an old chest.
“You open it.”
Ha Lam slowly opened the chest lid. Inside is not gold, silver or jewels. But each bundle of fabric is carefully preserved. A man's belt. A jade pendant. A pair of sandals. There are also wedding drawings written in Tan Ngoc's handwriting. Besides, note:
“I wonder if Ha Lam likes this color?”
"On the day we get married, if he is not familiar with the capital's etiquette, I will help him."
“Hopefully he can smile a little more in the future.”
Every sentence, every word. Like each knife stabbed into Ha Lam's heart. He clenched the paper in his hand. Fingertips tremble. First time in my life. The emperor once ascended the throne through wind and rain. Red eyes in front of an old chest. He knelt down and bowed his head vigorously.
“Auxiliary music.”
“You can beat me too.”
“It's okay to scold me.”
“But please don't say A Ngoc married the wrong person.”
“For the rest of my life, I will use everything I have to prove it.”
“The person that year brought Mac Bac to me.”
“I will use the whole world to repay you.”
In the hall. No one spoke up. A long time later. Father Qin looked at the man in front of him. Look at the emperor who bowed his head for his daughter. He remembered that year. His most arrogant daughter. For the first time, I blushed and took each piece of cloth and asked him:
“Father, tell me…”
“Does Ha Lam like it?”
Then he knew. My daughter was truly touched. She used all her sincerity in exchange for a cold wedding night. God finally did not disappoint her. Father Qin turned around and left. The voice was still as tough as before. But it's no longer cold.
“Get up.”
Ha Lam raised his head. His eyes trembled slightly. Father Tan snorted coldly.
“What are you still kneeling there for?”
“Let's go home.”
Just three simple words. Making Ha Lam bow his head again. A tear fell onto the snowy ground. The emperor had experienced a struggle for power, had faced life and death, and had not bowed his head to anyone. In the end, he cried because of an acceptance from his father-in-law. Because he knows. From today onwards. Mac Bac is no longer the place where he stole other people's daughters. Which has truly become his home.
