Chapter 2
Chapter 2 — The Fish Was Dumped Into The Trash, The Marriage Also Ended
Outside the door, Luc Minh Xuyen is teaching Luc Giai Giai.
"Don't pay attention to her. There's no one in your mother's family to back you up. In a few days it will be back to normal."
I pulled back the curtains.
"One more thing. Tomorrow morning at nine o'clock, please bring a photographer to help me."
Manager Chu hesitated.
“What if family members don't cooperate?”
“I will let them know who has the right to ask others to cooperate.”
Six o'clock the next morning. There were no more familiar sounds in the kitchen. When my mother-in-law pushed open the bedroom door, I had already changed my clothes. She stood at the door, her hairpin tilted to one side, her tone as if she was instructing a maid.
"Where's the millet porridge? Minh Xuyen has to go out at 7:30. If you're hungry, your stomach will hurt."
I put my bag on my shoulder.
“The pot is in the kitchen.”
Mother-in-law was stunned.
“I asked where is the porridge?”
“No cooking.”
Her face immediately darkened.
"Hua Nam Chi, are you really planning to make yourself so miserable just for a fish? You've been married to this family for five years, have I ever let you suffer? I was wrong to bet on the fish yesterday, but you can't let the whole family starve like that, right?"
I walked past her. Luc Minh Xuyen is sitting at the dining table. In front of him were still piles of bowls and chopsticks from last night that no one had cleaned up. He raised his head to look at me.
“Where's breakfast?”
"Do not have."
“Where are you going?”
Luc Giai Giai yawned and walked out of the living room. She was wearing my silk nightgown.
"Sister-in-law, didn't you wash the dishes yesterday? My boyfriend is coming tonight, he'll be embarrassed to see him."
I stopped walking.
“Then wash it off.”
Luc Giai Giai burst out laughing as if he had just heard the funniest thing in the world.
"Today I have to get my nails done and try on my engagement dress. Where will I find the time to do those things?"
The mother-in-law immediately responded.
"Nam Chi, don't be stubborn anymore. Today, Giai Giai's boyfriend's family is coming to visit. Please take half a day off and clean the house. At noon, go to the seafood market to buy some food. I'll pay you in advance."
“No leave.”
Luc Minh Xuyen put down the phone.
"Hua Nam Chi, have you forgotten your identity? I'm busy with a project at the company, and you're just an office worker at a small training center. What's the point of taking half a day off?"
I looked at him.
“I can't ask for a break.”
“Don't make excuses.”
He reached out to grab my bag.
"You can't go anywhere today. Let's clean the house and then talk."
Right at that moment. The doorbell rang. Luc Minh Xuyen frowned. The mother-in-law just adjusted her clothes and went to open the door.
“Who is this so early in the morning?”
The door opened. Manager Chu and the photographer are standing outside.
“Miss Hua, we came as scheduled to take photos of the house.”
The smile on the mother-in-law's face immediately stiffened.
“Taking... what house?”
I stepped forward. In the living room, the air immediately froze. Luc Minh Xuyen jumped up from the chair.
“Hua Nam Chi, are you crazy?”
"The name on the house deed is only mine. How crazy is it if I sell my house?"
Mother-in-law rushed forward and blocked Manager Chu's face.
"This is my son's wedding house! Who gave you permission to sell it?"
Manager Chu looked over at me. I took out the house ownership certificate and ID from my pocket.
"Mr. Chu, take a picture of the living room first. There's trash on the floor, just leave it as it is and take pictures, no need to clean it up."
The photographer raised his camera. Luc Giai Giai screamed loudly.
"No photos allowed! My bag is still on the sofa!"
I looked at the nightgown in her lap.
"I bought that shirt. Take it off."
Luc Giai Giai's face immediately turned red.
"Are you sick? It's just a shirt."
“In your eyes, it's just a shirt.”
“But in my eyes, it's mine.”
Luc Minh Xuyen walked quickly and lowered his voice.
“Don't cause trouble anymore, there are outsiders here.”
I gave the house book to manager Chu.
“Mr. Luc, there are outsiders here, please pay attention to your identity.”
“From beginning to end, this place has never been my home.”
Manager Chu coughed softly.
“Miss Hua, will the bedroom be taken too?”
The mother-in-law sat down on the floor, banging her thighs and crying.
"There's no reason anymore! The daughter-in-law wants to kick her husband's whole family out! Our Luc family married a white-eyed wolf!"
The neighbor across the street also opened the door and poked his head out to see. Luc Minh Xuyen's face turned red.
“Hua Nam Chi, do you have to do everything to this extent?”
I turned my head to look at him.
“You guys threw my fish in the trash first.”
I don't ask for leave. At ten o'clock in the morning, just after finishing the first meeting of the day at the training center, Luc Minh Xuyen's phone rang. He called back. I continued to turn it off. Colleague Manh Tinh leaned closer, lowered his voice and asked:
“Your husband?”
I switched my phone to silent mode.
“Probably not anymore.”
The pen in Manh Tinh's hand fell on the table.
"Have you finally figured it out? I told you a long time ago, that family doesn't consider you a human being. Last time your mother-in-law even came to the center to borrow money. She sat at the reception desk and told the leader that all your salary should be left to your husband's family to manage. Hearing that, I just wanted to invite her out."
I looked at her.
“She's been here before?”
Manh Tinh was stunned.
"Don't you know? She said Giai Giai wanted to buy a car. She was afraid that you wouldn't agree, so she came to ask if your salary this month had been paid. Then Headmaster Luu took her to the tea room."
My hand holding the documents stopped. At that moment, Chairman Luu walked out of the meeting room. Seeing me, he said unnaturally:
“Nam Chi, come to my office later.”
