Chapter 17
Chapter 17 — The House Without Me
“Sister, have you been preparing to leave for a long time?”
I don't stop walking. Her voice was still chasing behind.
“If you leave, will Tu Bach really let you go?”
I hugged the cardboard box tightly. Inside are the twenty years of me and my grandmother. And it's also the last thing that belongs to me in this house. As I walked to the gate, my phone vibrated. The lawyer sent a message.
“Miss Duong, the divorce agreement has completed the final review.”
“On opening day, do I need to bring it personally?”
I looked back at Chu Tu Bach. He was still standing in front of the resignation letter, staring at me with a gloomy face. He thought I just left the Chu company. But still don't know. On the 17th, I will return the position of "Mrs. Zhou" to him once and for all. I bowed my head to answer.
“Deliver it.”
“No need to arrive one day in advance.”
* Chu Tu Bach did not approve my resignation. The next day, the company's human resources department returned the entire stack of documents. There was only one line of writing written by him himself.
“Wait until your mood calms down and then talk.”
I looked at it for two seconds, then signed a new copy. This time, copies were sent directly to the Board of Directors and the legal department. The contract I signed with the Chu family is a project-based contract, the terms clearly state: After completing the handover of the current project, I can terminate the cooperation at any time. Resignation is an announcement, not a request. Chu Tu Bach can return the documents, but it cannot prevent the contract from taking effect. The old house project is still temporarily taken over by Wei Thua Le. He did not correct my design, nor did he accept the title of chief designer. After construction resumed, he only did one thing. Temporarily stop all renovation items for display purposes, focusing on completing the maintenance of load-bearing structures first. Duong Chi was very dissatisfied with this.
“There are only ten days left until the opening ceremony.”
She stood in the project meeting room, pointing to the progress board on the screen.
"Now that the display wall hasn't even been installed yet, how can we put the paintings in?"
Wei Thua Le flipped through the maintenance logbook, not even bothering to lift his eyelids.
“The humidity of the wall exceeds the standard, if sealed directly it will become moldy.”
“You can use a dehumidifier.”
“The inside of the wooden structure is not completely dry, the device can only absorb moisture on the surface.”
“So when will it finally be installed?”
“Wait until the house allows it.”
Duong Chi's face was extremely unsightly.
“But boss Chu has already given me the gallery.”
Wei Chengli finally raised his head.
“Architecture will not be handed over to you because of the gallery, but one less beam will collapse.”
The entire meeting room was silent. I sat at the very back editing handover documents, almost laughing out loud. Duong Chi looked at Chu Tu Bach. He didn't immediately speak up to defend her like usual. Just said in a low voice: "Safety comes first." This was the first time he rejected Duong Chi's request right in front of her. But I was no longer happy. Respect that comes late is not respect. It's just that when the losses become too obvious, he is forced to calculate the cost. After the meeting, Chu Tu Bach stopped me.
“Let's go home for dinner tonight.”
“I'm busy.”
“Busy about what?”
“Document editing.”
“I didn't I'm also the person in charge of the project."
He paused for a moment, then lowered his voice again.
“There's no need to push yourself so hard.”
“For the past few days, I've been staying in the studio near my old house, not even bothering to go home.”
“Am Am, we are husband and wife.”
I looked at him.
“So what?”
He frowned.
“Do you have to talk to me in this tone?”
“So what should I say?”
“Thank you for giving my project to someone else?”
