Chapter 3 — The Secret in the Basement B2

Driver Cao's expression immediately changed. He bowed his head and looked at the phone. Thieu Chan Hai must have just sent a text message. A few minutes later... A few figures appeared at the entrance to the basement. Khuong San was pushed out. Her legs were weak, her hand still holding her bag. As soon as she stepped off the basement ramp, she immediately ran towards my car. Driver Cao raised his hand to stop him. I immediately pressed the horn. The shrill sound of a siren tore through the rain. The people selling breakfast on the side of the road all turned their heads to look over. Driver Cao stopped. Taking that opportunity, Khuong San rushed forward, opened the back seat door and jumped straight into the car. Her whole body trembled.

"Nam Tu..."

Her voice choked.

"Uncle Ma... is dead."

I tightened my grip on the steering wheel.

"I saw it."

Even though I had guessed it before... But when I heard Khuong San say it with my own ears, my heart still hurt like someone was strangling it. Just last night... Uncle Ma was still sitting in the backseat of my car. Your clothes are soaked. Both hands trembled. He only told me one sentence... I looked towards driver Cao.

"Get out of the way."

He coldly replied:

"Miss Nguyen, General Thieu is still waiting for you."

I took out the wet paper and pressed it against the car window. The paper is half dry. But the text is still intact.

"Before 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, absolutely do not go to basement B2."

Driver Cao's pupils immediately contracted. I said into the phone:

"General Thieu, the piece of paper is with me."

"But now... I won't come down."

"If you want to get it, tell your people to get out of the way."

Thieu Chan Hai's voice tried to suppress his anger.

"Nguyen Nam Tu, don't forget..."

"Your employment contract is still in my hands."

I laughed.

"The contract can be found again."

"If my life is gone... who will I find?"

The car immediately fell silent. Khuong San cried while holding onto the back of the front seat.

"Nam Tu... everyone's phones have been confiscated. There are still more than ten people there..."

I quickly uploaded the entire recording file to cloud storage. Then send it to someone. Manh Ky An. My college friend. Now he is a reporter. Less than ten seconds later, he sent back a question mark. I don't explain. Just text four words. The company has someone die. Then send your location as well. Thieu Chan Hai has not hung up the phone yet. He heard me dial the phone.

"Who did you send it to?"

"Guess what?"

I calmly replied. The other person's breath stopped. At that moment, driver Cao suddenly raised his hand to signal the white van ahead. The car started backing up. Looks like he's about to give way. But I didn't move. People like them... It's never easy to let people leave. Through the rearview mirror, the side door of the van behind suddenly opened. Two men jumped down. Each person holds a crowbar in their hand. Khuong San screamed loudly. I immediately put it into gear. Step on the accelerator all the way. The front of the car grazed the car in front and then jumped out. The right rearview mirror hit driver Cao's arm. He cursed once and then stepped back. The car drove straight into the rain. Immediately, the van behind accelerated to chase. I entered the main road. Palms are wet with sweat. Khuong San lay down on the back seat, crying and calling the police.

"They're chasing!"

I looked through the rearview mirror. The white van still followed closely and did not let go. There is a red light ahead. The intersection is tight vehicle. I can't pass. At that moment... The phone rang. It's Manh Ky An. I immediately picked up the phone.

"Where are you?"

"About a kilometer south of the company. Someone is chasing us."

His tone immediately changed.

"At the intersection ahead, turn right onto Van An Street."

"There's a traffic police station over there."

I immediately steered. The car turned sharply onto Van An Street. However... As soon as I entered that road, I slammed on the brakes. On the sidewalk in front was parked a black sedan. The car door is open. Thieu Chan Hai held an umbrella and stood in the middle of the rain. Behind him... Mieu Tue is holding Khuong San's phone. The screen is still bright. Above is the company's general chat group. A new announcement just appeared in the group.

"Nguyen Nam Tu stole the company's business secrets and colluded with finance department staff to escape. The company has reported to the police for handling."

I stepped on the brake hard. The car's tires scraped across the flooded road, emitting a deafening sound. Khuong San hit the back of the front seat, in so much pain that he groaned softly. The black sedan in front was blocking the middle of the road. Thieu Chan Hai stood next to the car, the umbrella rim was pulled very low. It was as if he had already planned... That I would definitely run here. Mieu Tue held Khuong San's phone. Her face was white, without any blood left. Notifications in the company group remain on the screen.

"Nguyen Nam Tu stole the company's business secrets and colluded with finance department staff to escape. The company has reported to the police for handling."

I stared at that line, my hand clenching little by little. They are planning to turn us into escaped criminals. The white van behind also quickly followed, blocking the way back. The rain is getting heavier and heavier. The whole Van An street is like a ditch submerged by water. Manh Ky An's voice still rang through the phone.

"Nam Tu, say something."

I didn't hang up. Just quietly put the phone in the cup holder and lower your voice.

"I was stopped on Van An street."

Thieu Chan Hai took two more steps. He raised the umbrella, revealing his face, which always had a familiar smile. The smile now looks like it was glued on paper.

"Nam Tu, stop making a fuss."

His voice echoed through the rain.

"Things aren't as serious as you think."

I lowered the window a small crack. The cold rain immediately poured into the car.

"Then let them go."

Thieu Chan Hai looked at me.

"The people are in basement B2."

He smiled slightly.

"They're just coordinating the investigation."

"Confiscate the phone."

"Guard the stairs."

"Behind the black cloth there is a body."

I emphasize every word.

"General Thieu, do you call that a coordinated investigation?"

Mieu Tue's eyes wavered slightly. The smile on Thieu Chan Hai's face finally disappeared. He looked toward the backseat.

"Khuong San."

"Do you think so too?"

Khuong San hugged the seat belt tightly. Don't dare open your mouth. I could still clearly hear her teeth chattering. Thieu Chan Hai sighed softly.

"You two are still young..."

"You must have been scared too much."

Having finished speaking, he gently raised his hand to signal. Driver Cao walked over from the van behind. He no longer held the crowbar in his hand. But the two men walking behind are still there. I quickly looked ahead. Color sedan Black only blocks about half of the road surface. On the right is the sidewalk. Separated by a row of low iron stakes. There is a gap. Cars can still rush through. Maybe... Flip the car right there.
