Chapter 10
Chapter 10 — Three hours before the wedding, I locked the house as a dowry
Someone must stand up and shout for justice. But now I understand. In real life... Resistance is more like reorganizing files. One page at a time is spread out. If a page is missing, mark it as missing. Any page that is fake will be flagged as suspicious. Keep any page that is real. That's all. Go to the beginning of the alley. I took another photo of the carbon paper. Then upload to cloud storage. That night. Just got home. Mom took the initiative to give me the phone.
“Please back up all chat history in the group.”
I looked at her in surprise. Mom smiled wryly.
“I'm afraid that when I'm angry, I'll leave the group.”
“And then accidentally erased the evidence.”
I took the phone. My heart suddenly ached. Mom didn't suddenly become strong. She was just learning little by little how to instinctively stop herself from running away. 10 o'clock that evening. The first collage video appeared on a local lifestyle news account. Title reads:
"Bride Runs Away On Wedding Day Due To Dispute Over House Book, Groom's Mother Is So Angry That She Has To Be Hospitalized."
The video is only twenty-six seconds long. The first half is the scene where Ton Thu Binh stands crying at the reception desk. The second half is the scene where I hold the microphone to announce the cancellation of the wedding. Other related content: Commitment to add name. Sealing of lucky money. Re-measurement form. Or Phan Khai Nam's admission that he wanted to move into apartment 402... All were completely cut out. Comments quickly flooded in. Some people say I'm too nice. Some people say that women who have their own house should calculate. Some people also ask:
“Why only post the part where the bride announces the annulment of the engagement?”
I'm not in a hurry to respond. The first thing I do is: Save the link. Record the posting time. Save account name. Screenshot comments. Then record the entire video interface as evidence. Phan Nghien Chu called me.
“That video was not posted by you.”
“How about we issue a joint statement?”
“Just say the wedding is postponed because there is not enough communication between the two families.”
“Everything else is a misunderstanding.”
“In that joint statement, is there any mention of the additional name commitment?”
The other end of the line was silent. I asked again:
“Did you mention that Phan Khai Nam is about to move into apartment 402?”
The silence lasted longer. I hung up. The next morning. Manh Mien brought the full video recording of the wedding. In the video, every sentence and every word is very clear. Phan Khai Nam's words:
"My brother said that after his sister-in-law gets married, there will be no more comparisons."
Hear it clearly. Phan Nghien Chu's words:
"I know there's that pledge."
Not at all ambiguous. Tham Le sent me a violation complaint form.
“First request the platform to take down the collage video.”
“Don't rush to make the finished video public.”
“Let the opponent continue to reveal more loopholes.”
Right at noon. The second video appears. The title this time changes to:
"The Bride's Mother Signed the Rectification Paper, But Her Daughter Came Back and Canceled the Engagement Right on the Wedding Day."
I sit in front of the computer. Write a statement of facts. No emotions. No criticism. Just list the facts. 1. Apartment 402, Nam Que Ly area, is my personal property before marriage. 2. On the wedding day, the groom's family asked me to sign a commitment to add my name to the ownership of the house. 3. The secondary bedroom has been converted into an independent living space without the owner's consent own. 4. The document my mother signed had signs of incomplete pages and inconsistent titles. 5. For malicious acts of cutting and distorting information, I reserve the right to pursue responsibility. I have attached proof images that have been covered with personal information. Then send simultaneously to: Relative group. Resident group. Platform complaint channel. Thirty minutes later. The first video was removed. An hour later. The second video also disappeared. Come evening. Phan Nghien Chu sent me a complete printed copy of the document entitled:
"Explanation on Joint Capital Contribution."
I scrolled to the bottom of the page. In the signature section there are two names. Phan Khai Nam. Chu Tu Can. Next to the name Chu Tu Can, there is also a clearly printed red fingerprint. I stared at the page. After posting the statement of facts, I didn't immediately look at the reactions online. I turned off the phone. The first thing is to take my mother to Manh Mien's house to rest. Mom sat on the sofa. Still holding a piece of paper with offensive online comments printed on it.
“Those people on the internet don't know me.”
“But seeing them scold me…”
“I feel like someone is really standing outside my door cursing.”
I squatted down. Gently pulled the paper from her hand.
“So we don't quarrel with them.”
“We just need to turn on the camera in front of the door to see.”
Mom looked at me. Say nothing. But the shaking hand gradually calmed down. When I returned to room 402, I renumbered all the evidence bags. It was dark outside. There was only one table lamp left in the room. That moment... I no longer looked like a bride who had just canceled her wedding. More like a records clerk on night duty.
