Chapter 1
Chapter 1 — When Lawyers Are Betrayed
My name is To Can, I am one of the shareholders of the most famous law office in this city. Today was originally just a normal Friday, until I discovered a long strand of hair in my husband - Giang Hao's car. Golden brown, slightly curly, with a faint scent of jasmine. My hair is straight black hair, and I have never used perfume. Giang Hao had just come out of the shower and saw me holding that hair. His expression immediately changed. "What is this?" – I held up the evidence in my hand. "It must be from a guest. I'm taking a few people today." – he pretended to be calm, wiping his hair as he spoke. I chuckled coldly. As a lawyer, I have seen too many lies like that. “Giang Hao, do you know what I hate the most?” “What do I hate?” – he stopped, looked at me. "Hate lying." I carefully put the hair in the envelope, clearly writing the date and time. Giang Hao's hand trembled slightly. "What are you... doing?" "Collecting evidence." – I replied blandly, "Professional habits." He was about to say something, but then remained silent. I continued to search the car, and in the slot of the passenger seat, I found a pink hair tie. Made of plastic, there were still a few strands of identical auburn hair stuck on it. "And this one? Is it also from a customer?" Sweat began to drip on his forehead. "I... I don't know why I have this." "Don't know?" – I immediately took a photo, "Let me help you remember. Yesterday you said you were working overtime until ten o'clock, but when I called at nine thirty, you said you were on your way. It only took twenty minutes to get home from the company, but you didn't come back until eleven o'clock. Where were you at that hour and a half?" Giang Hao sat down on the edge of the bed, bowing his head in silence. I continued: "Last month, I looked at your credit card statement. Three times I swiped the card at Blue Mountain, each time it was the price of two cups of coffee. You know very well that I don't drink coffee. Also, lately you've been keeping your phone screen face down, never before. Last week, I asked you to help me charge my phone, but you frantically asked me for the password. We've been married for three years, when do you need my phone password?" With every word I said, his face turned a little whiter. "To Can, you're thinking too much..." "Thinking too much?" – I interrupted, "So now show me your phone." Giang Hao unconsciously grasped the phone on the nightstand. "Why do you have to look at my phone? Husband and wife also need privacy." I nodded. "You're right, husband and wife need privacy. But... except when having an affair." "I'm not cheating!" – Giang Hao jumped up, his voice agitated. "Then why don't you dare let me see?" "You..." "Jiang Hao, I give you one last chance. Now to be honest, I can consider forgiving. But if you let me investigate it myself... the consequences you won't be able to bear." He looked straight into my eyes - there was struggle, fear, and even a fragile bit of luck. In the end, that "luck" won out. "To Can, I've really been thinking too much. It's just that I've been under a lot of work pressure lately, so I'm a bit unusual. I swear, I've never betrayed our marriage." I laughed. A smile that saw through everything, cold to the bone. "Okay, I understand." I turned around to leave, but Giang Hao called back from behind: "Where are you going?" "Shower and then sleep." – I didn't turn around, "I still have to go to work tomorrow." "So... you trust me?" I stopped walking and looked back at him. "Giang Hao, I'm a lawyer. I only believe in evidence." The next day was Saturday, Giang Hao said he had to go to the company to handle urgent matters. I watched him drive away, then immediately took action. As a lawyer, I understand very well the importance of investigating and collecting evidence. Just a strand of hair and a hair tie are not enough to prove adultery in court. I need more evidence. Head
First, I opened a joint credit card account for the couple. As the financial manager in the house, I have access to all spending. Sure enough, in addition to the payments at the Blue Mountain cafe that I discovered, there were many other suspicious expenses. Last month, an annual yoga pass – 2,800 yuan. Giang Hao has never practiced sports, let alone yoga. That same day, he spent 1,200 yuan at a women's clothing store. He used to buy me gifts, but only on birthdays or anniversaries, and there was no special occasion that day. There are also movie tickets – two tickets every time. But in the last three months, we have never gone to the movies together. I took photos of all transactions, arranged in chronological order. Then I made a bold decision – straight to the yoga studio. According to information from the credit card, the place where Giang Hao bought the practice card is called "Tinh Tam Yoga", located in an office building in the city center. I changed into simple sports clothes, sunglasses and a baseball cap, using the excuse of wanting to learn to buy a workout pass. The receptionist is a young girl, enthusiastically introducing the courses. "We have many good trainers, you can try the experience class first." – she pointed to the wall hanging pictures, "This is Ms. Bach Nguyet, the most popular teacher here."
