Chapter 14
Chapter 14 — You Are The Most Expensive Mistake Of My Life
The next day, I still went to work as usual, my eyes were dark. Don't ask for time off, don't show your emotions. Life must continue. I can't destroy myself because of a bad man. In the afternoon, a bouquet of bright red roses appeared on my desk. No names, just generous signatures. I recognized it immediately, it was Co Ngon's writing. I took the bouquet of flowers, without hesitation, went straight to the trash can... threw it in. Colleagues around were stunned. I ignored their eyes and returned to my seat. Co Ngon, from now on... we are no longer related. I thought that by erasing everything about him, life would return to normal. But I was wrong. The next morning, as soon as I arrived at the company, I saw a familiar car. Co Ngon leaned against the car door, his face was haggard, his eyes were dark, he clearly hadn't slept all night. Seeing me, he immediately walked over.
“Tham Duyet, let's talk.”
“There's nothing to say.” I pushed past him and went straight into the building.
He chased after me, pulling my hand back.
“Give me five minutes… no, three minutes.”
His force was so strong, I couldn't escape. People around were starting to look. I don't want to fight in front of the company.
“Okay, three minutes.” My voice is cold.
We went to a deserted corner.
“Tham Duyet, sorry.” he looked at me, his eyes full of pain, "The thing between me and Lam Phi Phi... is not what you think."
“It's a commercial engagement, because of your father's company, I know.” I interrupted, my voice full of sarcasm, "Lawyer Co, you don't need to waste your time making up stories, I don't want to hear it."
"Not!" he rushed, "It was only a nominal engagement, arranged by the family, I never admitted it! The person I love... has always been you!"
"Love?" I burst out laughing, as if hearing the most ridiculous story in my life, "You love me, so you can hide it from me and have a romantic dinner with your 'namely fiancee'? Co Ngon, do you think I'm that easy to fool?"
"I didn't lie to you! That night was really about cooperation! The two companies have a very important project, Lam Phi Phi is the person in charge, I can't help but meet her!"
“So why did she say she was your fiancee?” I pressed, "Why didn't you object right away?"
"I..." his eyes slightly avoided, "At that time... I was afraid of causing tension and affecting the project. My father's company... could not bear any more incidents."
Again the reason. Forever is just a reason. After all, in his heart, family interests always come first. As for me... I'm just a piece that can be abandoned at any time. My heart is cold.
“Three minutes are up.” I looked at him, my voice calm and cold, "Co Ngon, I don't want to see you again. From now on, don't appear in my life."
Having finished speaking, I yanked my hand away, turned around and left. This time, he didn't chase. I thought... it would stop there. But I didn't expect that Lam Phi Phi would come to the company. That afternoon, I was in a meeting. The receptionist panicked and ran in to report that there was a person named Lam Phi Phi in the lobby, demanding to see me by name, and bringing several bodyguards with him, with an aggressive demeanor. My heart sank. Finally arrived. I asked permission to go out and took the elevator down to the lobby. There, Lam Phi Phi wore a neat suit, folded his arms and stood in the middle of the hall like the owner. Behind her are four black-shirted bodyguards. Company security guards stood guard but clearly did not dare to intervene deeply. Colleagues gathered around to watch the excitement. See me, she smiled coldly, walking forward.
“Tham Duyet, right?” Her voice was light but filled with pressure, "I heard you were the one who came between me and my fiance?"
One sentence directly labeled me "little tam". The surroundings began to whisper. I didn't pay attention, just looked at her: "Miss Lam, if you come here to cause trouble, you're in the wrong place. This is my company, not your backyard."
"Rebel?" She laughed, "I just came to take back what belongs to me. Co Ngon is mine, you should stay away."
“Don't worry, I'm not interested in what you've used.” I replied directly.
Her expression immediately changed.
"Miss!" She raised her hand to slap.
I don't dodge. In front of many people, she did not dare. Sure enough, her hand stopped mid-air. She took a deep breath, changing her look to pity.
"Tham Duyet, I advise you to be reasonable. Do you think Co Ngon is sincere towards you? Don't be naive. He is with you, just because he sees you pitiful, and has just inherited a large fortune, and wants to take advantage."
The words were like needles piercing straight into the deepest pain inside me. I know she did it on purpose, but it still hurts.
