Chapter 10
Chapter 10 — 120 Thousand Yuan And A Divorce
That's what I don't understand the most. As soon as he finished speaking, a new message arrived.
"I work under Lam Vy. She withdrew money from the company's project, Chu Minh Khai helped her fill part of it. But the loss was too big, he couldn't bear it anymore. I don't want to die with her."
To Thanh and I looked at each other. Same expression. Project withdrawal. This is no longer an affair. This is… a criminal offense. Chu Minh Khai is not "compensating". He is filling a bottomless pit. No wonder he's always short of money. No wonder he asked Chu Minh Hao to check Lam Vy's account. He doesn't have to check expenses. He's in control of… how deep that hole is.
“Crazy… really crazy.” To Thanh muttered, "Chu Minh Khai is not just stupid, but both stupid and poisonous."
She immediately calmed down and typed quickly on her phone.
"Nam Nhiem, we can't get involved in this matter ourselves. Withdrawing money from the project is a public charge, we have to hand it over to the police, but before that, all this evidence will be the heaviest bomb on the negotiating table."
I looked at the screen. That strange phone number is like a black hole. Constantly pulling out darker and darker truths. Chu Minh Khai... Weak, greedy, stupid. Everything was revealed without missing a single bit. He thought he was helping his ex. Dragging myself down a cliff. And Lam Vy. The woman who is pregnant with his child, manipulates him, and treats him like an ATM... What kind of person is she? I suddenly felt like I was watching a play. I'm the one who's been fooled the longest. To Thanh's phone rang. After listening, she told me:
"Looked it up, that digital signal has been appearing around the Van Dat area in the south of the city for the past two days."
Van Dat in the south. Lam Vy and Chu Minh Khai's company... is located right in that building. They are indeed very close.
“Use virtual numbers, be very careful.”
To Thanh hung up the phone and looked at me.
"It seems like he doesn't intend to show up, he just wants to stay behind and provide information."
I nodded, understanding. That person just wants to protect themselves, not cause more trouble. At that moment, the phone screen lit up again. Still a strange number. This time, the message was very short. But it was enough to make me sit up straight.
"Tomorrow afternoon at three o'clock, Starbucks on the third floor of Van Dat south, Lam Vy will meet with an investor, she is looking for someone to fill the hole. This is your last chance, get evidence that she withdrew money from the project."
The text still lights up on the screen. I gave the phone to To Thanh. She finished reading and was silent for a few seconds.
“Are you going?” I asked.
"Go." She replied immediately, “but it's not you who's going.”
I looked at her.
"You just gave birth, you're still in confinement, and you're spying on someone?" She looked at me, her voice was not heavy but very clear, "Not to mention if Lam Vy recognizes you, everything will be ruined."
“So who's going?”
To Thanh raised his eyebrows and pointed at himself. My mother came out of the room, placed a bowl of hot red longan apple water in front of me, and then quietly sat down. She said nothing. But I know she's listening.
“To Thanh, is it dangerous?” I'm still a bit worried.
“It's just a coffee shop, not a terrible place.” She waved her hand, "I'm just going to drink coffee, record, it's okay."
She stopped for a moment, her eyes serious.
"Nhiem Nhiem, listen to me. Right now we only know that Lam Vy may have withdrawn money from the project, but the real evidence... I don't have it yet."
“The informant pointed it out I conclude, there is no specific evidence.” She continued, “so I need to say it with her own mouth.”
“I understand.”
“She went to meet investors to fill the hole, which means she panicked.” To Thanh lowered his voice, "A panicked person, in order to have money, will say a lot of things that shouldn't be said."
I nodded. Jump down yourself.
“So the investor… is real or fake?” I asked.
To Thanh looked at me and smiled lightly. No need to answer. The stranger offered the opportunity. And To Thanh... is the "investor". My mother spoke softly.
"To Thanh, about her... I thank you on her behalf."
To Thanh shook his head, looked at her, his voice was very light.
“Auntie, I sold the whole house because of Nhiem Nhiem. I'm just going to say a few words... it's nothing."
The room was silent. The baby in the crib stirred slightly, then fell asleep again. The next morning, To Thanh texted, saying everything had been arranged. She asked the informant herself to act as an intermediary, pretending to be an investment assistant, meeting Lam Vy for coffee, saying she had a customer with money and interest in the project. The other party responded very quickly. Lam Vy agrees. Three o'clock in the afternoon.
“She is in a hurry.” To Thanh texted.
Just one word "urgent"... is enough to understand. At 2:30 p.m., To Thanh changed clothes, dressed simply, no makeup, hair tied up, the whole person looked more serene than usual.
“I'm leaving.” She stood at the door, turned around and said to me, "You're at home, turn on your phone, I'll tell you right away if something happens."
I nodded. See her out. The door closes. I went back and sat down on the bed. My mother looked at me, didn't ask anything, just gently placed the baby in my arms. The tiny hand held my finger tightly.
