Chapter 11
Chapter 11 — 30 Years of Stolen Identity
"To Nghenh! Your sister is like that and you still force her?!"
I looked straight at To Phan.
“I give you one last chance.”
Its eyes lit up.
“You have to write a commitment.
First, I admit that Chu Tieu Bao is the child of me and Chu Loi, and has nothing to do with you. Second, I admitted that I impersonated my sister, faked my civil registration, and borrowed 800,000 yuan. Third, I promise to return the house after three months, otherwise I will compensate you 5,000,000 yuan.” To Phan was stunned.
“Five million…”
“Didn't you say Mr. Trieu has a lot of money?” I said. “If that's true, 5,000,000 yuan is not worth anything to him.”
My mother quickly said:
"Write! Judge, write quickly!"
To Phan hesitated.
“But… if Mr. Trieu finds out…”
“Then don't let him find out.” I said. “I'll figure it out myself.”
The nurse came in to change the medicine. To Phan looked at me with complicated eyes.
“If I write… will you really lend me your house?”
“You didn't lie to me?”
It took a deep breath.
“Okay, I will write.”
I took out my phone and turned on the recording.
“Speak first.”
To Phan looked at his mother, she nodded.
"I, To Phan, admit that Chu Tieu Bao is the biological child of me and Chu Loi. I admit that I impersonated my sister To Nghenh to fake civil status and borrowed 800,000 yuan. I commit that after three months I will return the house to To Nghenh, otherwise I will compensate 5,000,000 yuan."
I pressed stop.
"Tomorrow, bring your ID and household registration book to my company and sign the official contract."
To Phan nodded. I left the hospital room. My mother chased after me.
“Ngh Nghenh… thank you…”
“No need.” I said. “This is the last time.”
“I know… in the future I will treat you well…”
“No need anymore.” I looked straight into her eyes. “From today, we have completed the payment.”
My mother was stunned.
“Payment… what is it?”
"I give you my family, you give me a commitment. From now on, no one owes anyone anything."
“You… you still want to break off the relationship?”
“It was cut a long time ago.” I said. “You're just pretending not to know.”
The elevator door opens. I walked in. My mother stood outside, looking at me. The door closes. I leaned my back against the wall and closed my eyes. Phone vibrates. It's Detective Ho.
"Miss To, there is new movement at To Phan's side."
"He left the hospital and immediately went to Mr. Trieu's company. The two argued for a while, but eventually made up. Mr. Trieu said that as long as he could give him the house papers within three days, he would register the marriage."
“Then it goes to the brokerage.” Detective Ho hesitated. “It seems… he intends to sell your house directly.”
I opened my eyes.
“How does it sell?”
“She stole your ID.” Detective Ho said. “This morning at the hospital, when your mother was talking to you, she searched your bag.”
I opened my bag. The wallet was still there, but the identification card was indeed gone.
"I got it." I said. "Continue to follow her. Go to brokers, meet anyone, record everything."
Hang up the phone, I call the Department of Real Estate Management.
"Hello, I registered a complaint against real estate last Friday. Someone is currently using my fake ID to complete the transfer procedure. If I encounter this situation, how should I handle it?"
Staff responded:
"If a complaint has been registered, the system will automatically lock it, making it impossible to transfer names. But if you discover someone using fake documents, you should immediately report to the police."
I called Tran Mac again.
“Director Tran, someone stole my ID, possibly forging documents to sell the house.”
“There is proof Just okay?”
“There is a recording. She admitted that she took my ID and said she would use a fake identity to sell the house."
"So the fraud has not been completed, but the amount of money is very large." Tran Mac said. “How are you going to handle it?”
“I want to let her continue acting.”
The other end of the line was silent for a few seconds.
“Want to get caught red-handed?”
“What do you need me for?”
“Help me contact an acquaintance at the Department of Real Estate. If she comes to check in, notify me immediately.”
"Okay. Additionally, I advise you to contact the economic investigation team. They handle this type of case very quickly.”
Hang up, I drive home. On the way, I texted To Phan:
“Tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., coffee shop under my company. Sign the contract.”
It responded very quickly:
“Yes sister! I will be on time!”
Accompanied by a smiley emoji. I also sent back a smiley emoji. Then open the phonebook and find Police Officer Ly's number from the economic investigation team. Last time it was you who took my testimony.
“Officer Li, I have a new clue. Someone stole my ID, intending to forge documents to sell the house."
“Are you sure?”
"Sure. I have a recording.”
“Then come to the team now, we'll discuss the details.”
I turned around and ran straight to the economic investigation team. The sun gradually sets. The city lights light up one after another. I looked at myself in the rearview mirror. Thursday morning, 9 o'clock, real estate transaction center. To Phan wore the Max Mara jacket I just bought last month, carried a cherry pink Hermes bag, and walked in on Mr. Trieu's arm. He was in his fifties, had a slightly protruding belly, a neat suit, and a gold watch. The broker led them to the counter.
“Ms. Vuong, these two people want to urgently transfer their names. The seller, Ms. To Nghenh, was unable to come due to work, so she signed a power of attorney."
Staff receives documents.
