Chapter 9
Chapter 9 — After Firing Me, My Husband Lost the 6 Billion Dollar Project!
The lights in the VIP room were adjusted very dark, the candlesticks on the table were burning, and red wine was poured for breathing. This space that Co Canh Tham deliberately chose, from inside to outside, exudes an atmosphere of "reconciliation". But in my heart I understand that this is nothing more than a meticulously staged play. Food was served one by one. Steamed grouper with soy sauce, steamed shrimp with garlic, crab-bun xiao long bao, and a bowl of tomato egg soup which I like the most. Each and every dish is the dish I used to order in the past, he remembers it very clearly. Co Canh Tham picked up a piece of fish meat and put it in my bowl, his voice incredibly gentle: "Eat a little more, you're skinny." I didn't move my chopsticks, just stared at him: "If there's something wrong, just say it directly." He put down his chopsticks, raised his glass of wine and took a sip, then looked at me.
“To Van, I want to apologize to you.”
I leaned back in my chair, waiting for him to continue.
“The reason you fired me was because I didn't think clearly.” His voice was very soft, "When Lam Nhuoc Khe reported to me, I thought it was just a normal personnel adjustment. I didn't know she would announce it in front of the entire company, nor did she know she would block all your access cards and emails."
“You don't know?” I repeat that statement.
“I really don't know.” He looked at me sincerely, "That day I was signing a very important contract. Lam Nhuoc Khe brought the document, I didn't look carefully and signed it. I thought it was just a normal personnel appointment notice."
I laughed: "Co Canh Tham, you are the General Director of the group, why don't you even look at any documents you sign?" His expression stiffened, but he quickly regained his normal state: "I know you don't believe it, but what I said is true. Lately the company has had so much work, I'm exhausted. Many documents were processed by Lam Nhuoc Khe for me, I really don't have time to look carefully."
“So what?” I retorted, "Are you going to say that all of this is Lam Nhuoc Khe's fault, and you are just a victim that she took advantage of?"
He didn't answer, just lowered his head to look at the glass of wine.
“Co Canh Tham,” I leaned forward, “When Secretary Trieu came to the house to bring soup, I heard everything you said on the phone.”
He suddenly raised his head and his expression changed.
"He said, 'She's such a burden, keeping it would only be an eyesore for Nhuoc Khe'." I clearly repeated each word, "You said this yourself, right?"
His lips trembled, unable to utter a word.
"So don't tell me you didn't know. Don't argue that you were taken advantage of. You knew everything, you agreed to everything, you even thought I deserved it."
I stood up, picked up the glass of wine on the table, poured myself a glass and drank it all in one gulp.
"If you came here today to apologize, then you've already apologized. I'm leaving."
"Wait." Co Canh Tham quickly stood up, grabbed my wrist tightly, "To Van, listen to me first."
I bent down to look at his hand. His hand is very big, his fingers are long, and on his ring finger he still wears our wedding ring. He still wears the ring. How ironic.
“I admit, I once said those words.” His voice began to shake, “But that's because I was upset at the time me. You know, I have a hot temper and speak without thinking. Lam Nhuoc Khe kept saying bad things about you in front of me, she said she wanted to strip me of my rights, wanted to rob my company, so I believed it."
“So you let Lam Nhuoc Khe take away my power?”
“I didn't mean to…” He took a deep breath and let go of my hand, “To Van, I came here today because I wanted to start over with you.”
I looked deeply into his eyes. Those eyes are very deep, the eyelashes are very long, five years ago, it was these eyes that fascinated me. But now, I just feel cold.
“Do it again from scratch?” I asked, “How to do it again?”
“I returned to the company and continued to be Vice President. I will handle Lam Nhuoc Khe's matter. I will send her to the Northwest area, out of your sight." He paused for a moment, "As for the project, let's sit down and discuss it properly. That's the passion my father left behind, you can't just take it away. But we can renegotiate the terms, whatever you want, I can give you.”
“Do I want something?”
“Yes, just say it.”
I looked at his face, the face I had been looking at for the past five years.
“I want an apology.”
“Didn't you…”
“It's not your apology,” I interrupted, “I want Lam Nhuoc Khe to stand in front of the entire company and apologize to me.”
His expression immediately changed: "This..."
“What? Can't do it? I smiled mockingly, "Didn't you just say that you can give me anything?"
Co Canh Tham bit her lip: "Lam Nhuoc Khe's personality, you don't know, she never..."
“Then there's no need to discuss anymore.” I turned on my heel and walked away.
“To Van!” His voice suddenly rose, "Don't force me."
I stopped walking and turned to look at him.
“Do you think you have the right to make terms with me now?” His tone changed completely, the fake gentleness disappeared, replaced by a cold threat, “You've been fired, you have no position, no income, no resources. What can I do? I stubbornly held onto that project, thinking I could live off it for the rest of my life? That project belongs to the Co family, not to Van. Do you believe I told the Legal Department to sue you and sue you for violating trade secrets?
I looked at him.
“What are you laughing at?”
