Chapter 4 — Dead Man's Special Award

Thu returned to Minh Khang after seven years, with a new employee card and a different middle name.

Trong assigned her to check the insurance records. He said the job only lasted three days, as if he had never broken into her house. The letter did not ask about the dropped card; she needed him to believe she was panicking rather than investigating.

In the server room, Thu realized the storage system had been divided into two layers. The public class only has audited reports. The remaining class is labeled **Project 14**, no one can access it without Huy's code.

Letter testing your date of birth. Wrong.

She tried the day Huy bought his first car. A folder opened, containing a list of twelve accounts receiving money in the names of people who had died or were abroad.

At the bottom of the list, there is an item called **Letter — heir**.

The letter is cold to the touch. Huy created a fake account in her name and received a sum of one billion VND. If the company wants to press charges, they just need to prove that she is the beneficiary.

Trong appeared behind. “What did you find?”

Mail closes the screen. “A delegation error.”

“Huy also said that.”

Trong placed on the table a photo of her and Nam in front of the law office. “Don't turn a sad thing into a big deal.”

Thu looked at the photo, then smiled. “I just want my money back.”

Trong changed his face. “Do you think money will save the family?”

“No. But it might cost you.”

Mail plugs a USB into the server, copies the list. As she left the room, the alarm system sounded. The security guard searched her bag and found a copy of the ticket she brought with her.

Trong pointed at it. “Company property stolen.”

Thu looked at the ticket. On the back is a new text in red ink: **You are on the right path, but the traitor is right next to you.**

She turned to Nam standing outside the door. For the first time, Thu wasn't sure she could trust him.

Nam did not look at her. He was looking at the broken memory card on the floor, as if realizing something else. Thu asked him how long he knew Huy was alive. Nam said Huy called him after the fire, asking to keep his location private.

“I promise to protect her,” Nam said. “I didn't know he was using you as bait.”

Letter opened the Project 14 folder using the password Huy hid in the ticket code. The data shows a series of transactions, but each file has a creation date after Huy's death. Someone is continuing to update fake books with your name.

Trong quietly left the room. The mail followed to the basement, where the secondary server was located. He plugged in a hard drive, intending to copy data. Thu pretended not to see, then took a photo of the reflection on the glass door.

On the hard drive there is a list of fake heirs and amounts of money distributed to the notary staff. Nam said if taken directly to court, the company would argue that the data was stolen. They need someone inside to confirm.

Ngoc appeared at the warehouse door. She said Huy once told her to record Trong, but the device was taken away. There were new burns on Ngoc's hand, a sign she had just come into contact with a document shredder.

Ngoc gave Thu an access card and the address of the suburban cold storage. "Huy stayed there for a while. But after I left, they transferred him."

The letter asked who sent it. Ngoc looked at Nam.

“The only person who knows the new location is Huy's lawyer.”

Nam was stunned. Huy's lawyer is himself.

Trong suddenly turned around, phone in hand, and called the police. “Two people broke into company property.”

Thu put the memory card in her pocket. "Then let's go to the station. I want to see who is called the property owner."
