Chapter 6
Chapter 6 — Dead Man's Special Award
Ngoc disappeared before the police arrived.
Thu didn't believe she was betraying her, but the arrow behind the photo made her wary. They followed the medicine code in the room, to an old warehouse near the port. Inside there is a wooden chair, a cup of warm water and Huy's blue shirt.
On the table is an open computer. The screen shows the unsent video file. Huy appeared, thinner than in the photo, with a low voice.
"Sister, if you can see it, don't look for me. I made myself disappear to bring the people behind Project 14 to light. The ticket in the photo frame is just a copy. The real ticket is in the account without your knowledge."
Video stops.
Mail opens your account list. There is a savings account opened since she went to school, with a balance of only a few hundred thousand. Historically, a sum of fifty-two billion was recorded and then immediately locked.
The real ticket is not on the paper. It is in the banking system.
Nam discovered that the transaction was created with Huy's digital signature, but confirmed from director Minh Khang's device. If the company tries to claim the prize, the data will automatically replay the entire transaction book for the investigation agency.
“Huy turned the money into a trap.”
Thu read the message in the video again. I don't want you to accept it for me; I want you to force them to confess.
They decided to release a portion of the data, enough for the company to believe that Thu still doesn't have final proof. Trong immediately invited her to the meeting room.
“You can take ten billion and leave town,” he said. "Huy is dead. Don't let your mother lose her last daughter."
Thu looked at the glass of water on the table. Huy once told her not to drink what someone else had prepared.
“I don't accept money from dead people.”
Trong stood up. “So you accept the consequences.”
Outside the door, Nam was held back by two security guards. Thu realized she had entered a room with no way out.
Trong locked the door, but did not know that Nam had sent the coordinates to the notary. Thu sat opposite him, not touching the glass of water. She asked about the ticket, about the death certificate and about the fifty-two billion.
Trong said the company only protects shareholders' interests. Huy took the data and threatened to publish it, so he was "taken off the books".
“You talk as if my brother is a number.”
"In auditing, anyone who does not exist on the system cannot cause damage."
Letter opens transaction copy. A recipient account named Trong, but the IP address is the same as Duy's machine. They are pushing responsibility onto each other.
Outside, Ngoc called through the loudspeaker. She gave the data to the press. In panic, he rushed to the door. Thu used a chair to block it, and Nam broke the lock with a metal bar.
Three people ran down the stairs. Duy stood in the lobby, holding his passport. He looked at Nam and asked: "Have you kept your promise to Huy?"
Nam did not answer. Duy threw his passport in his face and ran out the back door.
Thu chased after her, but the rain made the road slippery. Duy got into a car that had the engine running. Before the bus left, he turned around and smiled: "The person holding the ticket is not Huy. It's someone you've never met."
Ngoc said that person could be Dr. Son. The fake death certificate requires a professional signature, but the person who ordered it has not yet been revealed.
Thu looked at the ticket. The bank code on the edge of the paper just lit up. Inheritance account has been activated.
