Chapter 7
Chapter 7 — Dear Wife, Do You Remember Me?
“The day you came for the interview, the first moment I recognized you, my heart skipped a beat.”
“I waited nineteen years not for that joke.”
"It's because I've never met anyone in the future who makes me feel as happy as when I looked at you as a child."
The coffee shop plays very light music. Outside the window, occasionally a few cars pass by. I bowed my head.
“I need time.”
“As long as it takes.”
“Can you finish Phuong Tinh's matter first?”
“I will.”
“How to handle it?”
“I'll turn the cards over to my mother. It's not a negotiation, it's an announcement.”
I stood up.
“Then I'll wait for your results.”
Going to the door, I turned around and looked back. He's still sitting there. Coffee cup without a single sip. His eyes still followed me. I pushed the door and walked out. The sun outside is very strong. I narrowed my eyes. The phone vibrates. Not Chu Dien. It's Phuong Tinh.
“Nim Niem, are you free this afternoon?”
"I'm walking at the shopping center near your house, it's so random, do you want to come with me?"
I glanced at the location. I never told her where my house was. 08 I'm not looking for Phuong Tinh. But I took a screenshot of that message and saved it to my computer. Go to work on Monday, everything is still the same. Phuong Tinh sat at the next table, smiling brightly and greeting me.
“Good morning Niem Niem.”
“Good morning.”
“How was your weekend?”
“It's normal.”
"On the weekend I went to the shopping center near your house, the environment there was really nice."
She spoke very naturally. As if it really was just a coincidence. I smirked and didn't answer. At ten o'clock in the morning, when I entered the pantry, I met Tieu Trieu in the same room. Tieu Trieu lowered her voice: "Sister Niem, I'll tell you this."
“Say it.”
“Last Friday, Phuong Tinh borrowed my personnel file.”
“What?”
“She said she would help me compare the information when I came to work. I didn't think much about it so I gave it to her.”
“Is there my home address on file?”
“Yes. In the emergency contact section, my mother's phone number is listed, and the address is also there.”
I nodded.
“I know. Don't tell anyone.”
“Yes.”
I returned to my seat. Phuong Tinh is focusing on typing on the keyboard, her expression extremely focused. I don't pull strings to stir up trouble. At lunch, Phuong Tinh carried her briefcase to the twenty-third floor. This time when she came back, her face was not very good. I sat down for half a day without saying a word. I glanced at it from the corner of my eye. At three o'clock in the afternoon, she received a phone call. The voice wasn't loud, but I sat right next to it.
“Auntie, he won't drink.”
“I know, let me think of another way.”
“Yes… She's still here. Sitting right next to you.”
"Don't worry, I know how to control myself."
She hung up and realized I was looking at her. Then he smiled fakely: "My mother called, urging me to come home for the weekend."
“Yes.”
I didn't expose her. But “Aunt” and “Mom” are not the same name. Just now she called her "Auntie". After work time ended, I still stayed. Wait until I'm alone on the floor. I opened the computer and retrieved Phuong Tinh's profile. The Administration Department has the authority to view these things. In the "Introduced person" section: Chu Dien's mother's name. Section "Emergency contact": Chu Dien's mother's phone number. Not her own family members. I checked her work history again. Three weeks in, no completion any substantive work item. All the documents she touches are trivial matters. But every day he goes to the twenty-third floor on time, without missing a day. I took pictures of everything. Turn off the computer. On the way home, I texted Chu Dien.
“The person who introduced Phuong Tinh to the job was my mother.”
“The emergency contact is also my mother.”
“Do you know about this?”
He replied immediately.
“Don't know.”
