Chapter 4 — Farewell Nam Thanh

I looked at the screen, remembering the few hours on the bullet train. I took out the ring box and put it back in. Even the proposal had three versions written in the notes. The first version was too formal. The second version is too playful. The third version has only one sentence. Tham Viet Trinh, let's stop loving each other across mountains and seas. Now I know that the only person who misses me is the mountain and the sea. The days he spent in Nam Thanh were not lonely at all. Lam Nhuoc Giao was on duty with him, waiting for him to get off work, and was pregnant with his child. And I, stopped at the other end of the screen, became an electronic pet. If you're happy, come and pet it a bit. If you're not happy, you can let it dry aside. Tham Viet Trinh's phone call came. I don't listen. He sent a text message again. 【Ninh Ninh, don't make a mess.】 【You really just got off the operating table.】 I closed the ring box and placed it in the deepest drawer. Then click the confirmation button in the email. The website pops up with a second prompt. 【After confirmation, you will be put on the closed training list.】 【Do you continue?】 I heard the phone vibrate, and finally pressed to confirm. The screen quickly displays new notifications. 【Successful confirmation.】 【Please complete registration within three days.】 The next morning, Chu Nhien accompanied me back to Nam Thanh No. 1 Hospital to print additional emergency medical records. The lobby was crowded with people, the number calling continuously rang overhead. I held my ID and stood in front of the self-service machine, my stomach still aching. Chu Nhien stood in line to pay the fee to help me. Not long after leaving, Tham Viet Trinh's voice came from behind.

“Lin Ninh?”

I turned around. He stood next to the guidance counter, still wearing the white blouse from yesterday. Maybe he didn't sleep all night, he had very heavy dark circles under his eyes. He saw the needle mark on my wrist first, then looked at the emergency medical record in my hand.

“Are you going to the emergency room?”

Last night he sent many text messages, asking me why I didn't answer the phone, asking me why I was angry. But when I was actually lying in the emergency bed, he was right outside the curtain. I looked at him, my voice a bit hoarse.

“Did you just get off the operating table?”

Tham Viet Trinh was stunned for a moment, then quickly nodded.

“Yes, yesterday's emergency took too long.”

After speaking, he seemed to remember something, his voice carrying a bit of blame.

"Why didn't you tell me when you came to Nam Thanh? Your body wasn't feeling well and you didn't contact me. Do you know how worried I was?"

Worry. These two words that came out of his mouth did not land in reality. Chu Nhien took the fee slip and turned around. Hearing this sentence, he laughed coldly. Tham Viet Trinh looked at her.

“What are you laughing at?”

“Nothing.”

Chu Nhien put the emergency medical record bag in my hand, her voice was very cold.

“Just saw that Dr. Tham is really busy.”

I won't let Chu Nhien continue talking.

“Chu Nhien, go to the door and wait for me.”

She looked at me uneasily. I shook my head at her. After Chu Nhien left, Tham Viet Trinh reached out to touch my forehead. I leaned away to avoid it. His hand stopped in midair, his eyebrows slowly furrowed.

"Lam Ninh, what's wrong with you?"

I lowered my head to look at the medical record bag, inside was the medicine I was prescribed last night and the photo of the prenatal examination report that I took.

"Tham Viet Trinh, let's break up."

He was stunned. A few seconds later, he laughed.

"You came to Nam Thanh in the middle of the night and even went to the emergency room, just to tell me this?"

I said nothing.

“Do you blame me for not picking you up?”

“You really have surgery.”

"Before, you were the one who understood my work best, why is it so unreasonable today?"

I raised my head to look at him.

“Did the surgery go well?”

Tham Viet Trinh's voice paused.

“Convenient.”

“How is the patient?”

“Still watching.”
