Chapter 7
Chapter 7 — Husband Says First Love Doesn't Feel Safe, I Always Change the Locks
She called again. I turned off the power. When the meeting ended at noon, I turned on my phone. Seventeen missed calls. There are also a bunch of voice messages.
"Tri Y, how does your father's blood pressure monitor work?"
"Tri Y, A Nghien's sister has an interview this afternoon. Please help her look over her resume."
“Tri Y, why don't you answer the phone?”
“Tri Y, now you are becoming more and more unreasonable.”
I don't answer. But directly create a new chat group. Bring your mother-in-law in. The group's name is: Chu Family's Self-Dealing Housework Group. Members include: Chu Nghien, mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law of Chu Tinh. I send a group notification:
“From today onwards, please handle all affairs of the Chu family internally.”
Boys are responsible for their parents, girls take care of themselves. I will no longer continue to work as a free customer service call center. The group was silent for nearly half a minute. The first person to explode was her husband's sister.
“Sister-in-law, what do you mean?”
I replied:
“Literally.”
Chu Tinh continued:
"I have a very important interview this afternoon. Aren't you the best at editing CVs? How about helping me take a look?"
“Charge.”
She sent a question mark. I replied:
"Revise CV 300 yuan, test interview 500 yuan. Relative price, no invoice."
The mother-in-law immediately sent a voice message. I click open.
"Tham Tri Y, have you fallen into the pile of money? Even if you're a family member, you still talk about money?"
I typed the answer:
"If family members don't need to talk about money, then why did mom feel sorry for Chu Nghien standing outside in the cold in the middle of the night but not feel sorry for me holding Tieu Vu and running to the hospital?"
The group chat was silent again. Chu Nghien sent me a private message.
“You don't have to do that.”
I replied: He continued texting:
“You're making it difficult for everyone.”
“When people hurt me, no one warned me.”
At five o'clock in the afternoon, Chu Nghien went to pick up Tieu Vu. It's half past six and I still haven't arrived home. I called him. He picked up the phone very quickly. The phone was filled with traffic sounds.
"Side road."
“Where is Tieu Vu?”
“In the car.”
“What time does Tieu Vu finish school?”
“Four thirty.”
"What time is it?"
His voice began to lose patience.
“I told you, the road is blocked.”
Tieu Vu on the other end of the phone said in a low voice:
“Mom, dad picks up Miss Lam too.”
My hand holding the phone stopped. Chu Nghien immediately explained:
"Lam Nguyet is convenient. Today she has a stomach ache so I took her to the hospital."
I closed my eyes.
“You brought Tieu Vu with you?”
“Just convenient.”
“Have Tieu Vu eaten yet?”
The other end of the line was silent.
“Chu Nghien, now take her home.”
"Right away."
He still wanted to explain. But I hung up. Fifteen minutes later, I saw Chu Nghien's car at the gate of the residential area. Tieu Vu sat in the back row, pressing his face against the glass door. Lam Nguyet sat in the co-pilot's seat, holding her stomach with one hand. Seeing me, she smiled weakly.
"Miss Tri Y, I'm sorry. My stomach really hurts."
I opened the back car door and carried Tieu Vu down. The child's hand was cold.
“Have you eaten yet?”
The child shook her head.
“Dad said to take you first.”
Chu Nghien got out of the car.
“She has a stomachache, can you just ignore it?”
I looked at him.
“So if a girl has been hungry for two hours, then you can just ignore it?”
He said angrily:
"Tham Tri Y, don't overdo everything like that. It doesn't matter if Tieu Vu skips a meal where."
When Tieu Vu heard that sentence, his eyes immediately turned red. I pulled her behind me.
“Chu Nghien, on the first day of implementing the commitment, you failed.”
His expression darkened.
“Pledge, commitment. In your eyes, is there anything else besides rules?
“There is also a daughter.”
Lam Nguyet grabbed the car door and got out, her voice was soft and weak.
“Miss Tri Y, it's all my fault. Don't blame A Nghien, I'm too useless."
I looked at her.
“If you know you're useless, don't compete with someone else's car.”
Her face immediately turned pale. Chu Nghien shouted:
“Tham Tri Y!”
Tieu Vu was startled, his whole body trembled. I didn't yell back. Just took out my phone and took a photo of the car. The navigation screen in the car is still on. The destination is not a hospital. Which is a Western restaurant. I turned the screen so he could see.
“If you have a stomachache, go to a Western restaurant?”
Lam Nguyet's face completely changed. Chu Nghien reached out to snatch my phone. I took a step back.
“Don't rush.”
“Let me guess.”
“Stomach pain is fake.”
“It's true that today is her birthday.”
"Welcoming Tieu Vu is fake."
"Using your daughter as a front to celebrate her birthday is the real deal."
The blood on Chu Nghien's face slowly drained away. I know I guessed right. Because next to Lam Nguyet there is a small cake. On the box are printed the words: Happy Birthday Tied with a pink ribbon. I lowered my head to look at Tieu Vu. The child also saw it. Tiny voice:
“Dad, didn't you say there was traffic jam today?”
Chu Nghien squatted down.
“Tieu Vu, dad will buy you delicious food later.”
The girl retreated behind me.
“I'm not hungry anymore.”
The expression on his face finally showed panic.
“I didn't mean to trick you.”
I spoke up:
