Chapter 4
Chapter 4 — I am no longer anyone's ladder
Uncle Luong calmly replied:
"The company is not your place to defend anyone."
That was the first time. There are people in the meeting room who are not on Hua Niem An's side. Luc Thua Chu's face became darker and darker. Hua Niem An bowed her head. The hand placed under the table tightened the hem of the dress. I turned around and walked out of the meeting room. The phone rang right on time. Mother's assistant.
"Miss Nam Chi."
"All additional documents of Truong Dieu have been returned."
"President Wen wants to ask you..."
"Do we need to cancel the meeting list for tomorrow?"
I looked at the crowd of people scurrying behind the glass wall.
"No need to cancel."
The other end of the line was silent for a moment.
"You want to leave them a path?"
I smiled softly.
"Save it for them to jump off."
The next day. The love confession lantern festival officially opened. On the bank of Nam Thanh River, a large stage was built. Below was filled with Truong Dieu's partners, reporters and staff. Luc Thua Chu wore a custom-made tuxedo. Hua Niem An stood next to him. In her hair is a hairpin studded with rubies. I immediately recognized that clip. Half a year ago. Luc Thua Chu said he wanted to choose a birthday gift for his mother. He also asked me which style was both luxurious and unobtrusive. I went with him all afternoon. But now... That clip is in Hua Niem An's hair. Manh Giai led several female staff members to distribute candy backstage. Saw me coming in. She deliberately stuffed a box of candy into my hand.
"Manager Wen."
"Since you're here, help hand out candy."
"Anyway, you can't just stand by and watch General Director Luc and Niem An be happy forever."
I put the candy box back on the table.
"I didn't come today to hand out candy."
Hua Niem An turned away from the dressing table.
"So what did you come for?"
"Come to see who Thua Chu chose in the end?"
My eyes stopped on her hairpin.
"The clip suits you very well."
She gently stroked the clip. Smiling softly.
"Thua Chu gave it to me."
"He said..."
"This is a gift prepared for the Luc family's daughter-in-law."
Right at that moment. Luc Thua Chu walked in. He heard that sentence clearly. But no explanation. He pulled me aside.
"Last night my father scolded me all night long."
"You should stop being angry too."
I pushed his hand away.
"Does your father know..."
"Are you going to make this public today?"
"He'll know sooner or later."
I looked straight into his eyes.
"Luc Thua Chu."
"I'm standing on the ladder built by the On family..."
"Hug another woman to climb up."
"Aren't you afraid of falling to death?"
His face changed slightly. But it quickly pressed down.
"Don't say such harsh words."
"The On family helps Truong Dieu..."
"It's not like helping is free."
"You want benefits."
"I can give it."
I laughed.
"What are you going to give me?"
He looked at me. His eyes looked like he was discussing a very profitable deal.
"I will still be Mrs. Luc."
"Nien An stays in Nam Thanh."
"I won't let her appear in front of you."
I looked at him.
"What do you mean..."
"Make me accept her existence?"
He replied calmly.
"In this world..."
"Such a thing is not rare."
"Don't learn from ordinary women who make noise all the time."
Staff are urging the program to begin. Hua Niem An stepped forward. Take Luc Thua Chu's arm.
"Thua Chu."
"Don't argue with me because of me On."
"If she really marries into the Luc family in the future..."
"I will know how to keep my temper."
I looked at her.
"How do you know how to keep your temper?"
She leaned close to Luc Thua Chu. Soft voice. But every word feels like a needle.
"I won't compete with you for Mrs. Luc's position."
"As long as Thua Chu has you in his heart..."
"I accept without title."
Manh Giai immediately followed.
"Miss Niem An is truly generous."
"If it were you..."
"I can't stand the type of person who relies on his family to force him into marriage."
Luc Thua Chu did not reprimand him at all. He just looked down at the clock.
"After the ceremony is over."
"I'll talk to you."
"Now be quiet for a bit."
I took a step back.
"Then I'll be quiet..."
"To see the end of this drama."
The host's voice rang out from the stage.
"Please respectfully invite General Director Luc Thua Chu of Truong Dieu Group..."
"With the Ambassador of the image of this year's Lantern Festival confessing love..."
"Miss Hua Niem An."
Applause immediately rang out. Hua Niem An took Luc Thua Chu's arm and walked onto the stage. The giant LED screen shows a series of romantic photos of the two people. The sea of red lights along the riverbank simultaneously lit up. The host smiled and asked:
"Mr. Luc."
"I heard that you and Ms. Hua met each other at Truong Dieu's most difficult time."
"She's been with you through the darkest times, right?"
Luc Thua Chu turned to look at Hua Niem An. The corners of his lips carried a gentle smile.
"That's right."
"If it weren't for Niem An..."
"There wouldn't be me today."
