Chapter 7
Chapter 7 — I heard that I had a loving husband and wife, and had many children and grandchildren. He crushed the white jade bowl in his hand.
He choked for half a day, then finally managed to squeeze out a sentence with difficulty.
“Miss Tong, I've come to pick you up.”
Behind the door, a mother suddenly burst into laughter.
Even I, sitting inside the red veil, almost couldn't bear it. The red carpet stretched all the way to the front of the carriage. When Han Chinh helped me get into the carriage, there were suddenly a few whispers among the crowd of people coming to watch the ceremony.
"Miss Tong is marrying a martial artist? I thought she wholeheartedly wanted to enter the palace."
"Even though Han Chinh has the title of general, his family background is not as good as other families. Is there any family in the capital that really values him?"
“It's just something left over that the Song family's daughter chose.”
The others spoke neither loudly nor softly, just enough for everyone around them to hear. My hand that was about to lift my veil stopped. Han Chinh's back also stiffened for a moment. He didn't turn his head, just said one sentence to me in a low voice.
"It's OK."
He helped me get into the car. The moment the car curtain was lowered, through the gap, I saw him turn around and coldly look at those talkative guys. Say nothing. Don't even move your hand. Just simply take a look. For some reason, the others immediately fell silent. Go to Han Palace. As expected, this monastery is located quite off-center, in the northwest corner of the capital. Away from the bustling streets, extremely quiet. However, the hospital was larger than I expected. The three rooms front and back, the main hall are kept bright and tidy. There is also a cinnamon tree growing in the yard, its branches and leaves have just sprouted...must have been newly grafted. Han Chinh's mother passed away two years ago, and there are no more elders in the family. The butler is an old servant who has followed the Han family for twenty years.
"Young lady, this old slave's name is Chu. If you have any problems from now on, just call this old slave directly."
Uncle Chu bent down and smiled, his hands and feet were extremely agile. That night, after drinking the wine, I sat on the edge of the bed in the new room. Han Chinh stood three feet away from me, looking like a child who had done something wrong.
"That... you should rest. I'll go to the study and sleep."
I raised my head to look at him. He rubbed his hands.
“I don't want her to feel uncomfortable.”
This person doesn't even blink when he fights and kills people, but in front of his wife, he's more timid than a rabbit.
"What are you standing so far away for? Come over here and sit."
He carefully moved forward and sat down on the other side of the bed, the space in the middle was wide enough to fit two or three more people. I picked up a red apple from the table and gave it to him. He took it, didn't chew a few bites before swallowing it. I gave him another one.
“Eat slowly.”
His ears turned red again. That night, he actually hugged two mattresses underneath the bed in the new room and slept on the floor himself. I lay on the bed and looked at him. His sleeping position was extremely obedient, his hands neatly placed in front of his chest. Outside the window wafts the faint scent of newly sprouted cassia leaves. I closed my eyes, feeling for the first time that getting married... didn't seem like a bad thing at all. On the fifth day after the wedding, Han Chinh's colleagues held a party to congratulate us. The chosen location was Vong Nhac Lau in the East wall. Many female relatives of mandarin families in the capital also attended. I changed into a dark blue narrow-sleeved shirt and went out, exactly like the one I wore at the palace banquet before. Han Chinh followed beside me, along the way he didn't know where to put his hands correctly.
“What are you stressed about?”
“In cases like this… I don't know how to talk.”
“No need for you to talk, just stand there.”
"Stand there? Where do you stand?"
“Stand behind me.”
He obediently took half a step back. After entering the hall of Vong Nhac Lau, all around were welcoming smiling faces. Han Chinh's brothers and colleagues loudly congratulated him, but on the contrary, they were extremely comfortable and cheerful. But on the female side, the atmosphere is a bit magical. A round-faced woman sitting at the main table was the first to speak.
"Is this the eldest lady who married from the Song family? Her appearance is indeed very beautiful. It's a pity that she married into General Han's Han family. I'm afraid I'll have to suffer in the future."
