Chapter 1 — If you don't see the strange words appearing before your eyes

Updated 10/08/2026 4 min read

My mother used the money to buy a nurse, intending to use my girlfriend's daughter in exchange for the son who just passed away in my life. If I hadn't seen the strange words appearing before my eyes, I probably would have lost my baby the day I stepped out of the operating room. I gave birth and saved a boy and a girl. The effects of the drug still make me dizzy. My eyelids felt as heavy as if they were pressed against a rock. Even lifting my fingers was extremely difficult. On my left lay my daughter. On my right lay my son. The two children were wrapped in soft diapers, lying close to their mother, occasionally making immature cries like newborn kittens. I just want to take a nap for a few minutes. But just as his eyelids were about to close, a line of words suddenly flashed across his vision. 【Don't sleep now!】 My drowsiness instantly disappeared. I opened my eyes really hard, before I could understand what was happening, the next lines of text continuously appeared. 【Her younger sister, Tong Nha Ky, also gave birth in this hospital. Her baby is a girl.】 【Her biological mother always competes for her. She was afraid that if she gave birth to a daughter, her husband's family would look down on her, so she prepared to exchange her child with her.】 【When she regained consciousness, the birth records had been edited. On paper, she only gave birth to two girls.】 【People will say that she suffered from postpartum depression, because she was jealous of her sister giving birth to a boy, so she made up the story that the baby was switched.】 【She will spend three years searching everywhere, in the end she completely mentally collapsed.】 【Meanwhile, her biological son will hug Tong Nha Ky and call her "Mr. mother.】 The blood in my body seemed to freeze. I don't know where those words came from. But less than a few seconds later, the door to the hospital room opened. My mother, Mrs. Phan Tu Lan, walked in first. Following her was a female nurse wearing a white blouse. The other person wore a mask, revealing only his curved eyes as if smiling.
"Ms. Tong, the baby needs to be taken to the care area for a bath, diaper change and weight check. We will bring the baby back in about ten minutes."
Phan Tu Lan approached the bed and adjusted the corner of the blanket for me. Her voice was so soft that no flaw could be found.
"You just had an operation, your body is still very weak. Don't strain yourself anymore. Just let the nurse take care of the two children, close your eyes and rest for a while."
Having finished speaking, she discreetly glanced at the nurse. The other person immediately reached out towards the child on my right. I gathered the last bit of my strength and placed my hand on the diaper wrapped around my baby.
"Stop."
The nurse's arm stopped in mid-air. I pulled my child closer and continued in a cold voice:
“No one can take my child out of the room.”
The nurse stood still for a few seconds. The name tag in front of her chest shook slightly. The name on it is Tran My Dung. She withdrew her hand and patiently explained:
"Ms. Tong, please calm down. This is your normal care process. Newborn babies need to be bathed, weighed, and centrally changed."
I looked straight into her eyes.
“Can family members come along?”
Tran My Dung still kept her smile.
"The child care area must be sterile. According to regulations, family members are not allowed inside."
“Then do it all right in this room.”
She frowned slightly, but her voice was still very professional.
“In the hospital room there is no heating table to keep heat, nor is there a scale for it t/child s/newborn s/birth. Babies who have just been born can easily catch a cold if not handled correctly."
Every sentence and every word is reasonable. If it weren't for those comments warning me, I definitely wouldn't have been suspicious. Perhaps I should even thank her for her dedication. Phan Tu Lan sat down next to the bed. Her palm pressed against my forehead, gently like a mother truly pitying her child.
“Tieu Ninh, I understand that you just gave birth so you're worried too much. But look at your own face, it's so white that there's no blood left."
She gently stroked my hair.
“Let the nurse take you guys away for a moment. Mom will help you keep an eye on it, absolutely nothing will happen, okay?"
The way she comforted me reminded me of my childhood. Every time I had a high fever and refused to take medicine, she also used this tone to advise. Only at that time, I never knew that her gentleness could also become a d/a/o. Outside the door, another figure appeared. Tong Nha Ky hugged her newborn daughter and slowly walked in. Her face was pale, her bangs were wet with sweat and stuck to her forehead. Her appearance is so weak that outsiders fear that she will fall at any moment. Nha Ky did not immediately speak up. She just stood there, quietly looking at Phan Tu Lan and advising me. When my mother's eyes turned red, she softly said:
“Just rest.”
“I also took my child to the care area. I'll go with the nurse, and by the way, take care of the two children for you."
That voice was calm and sincere.
