Chapter 17 — Kieu Hoa went to the wrong door, I don't want to go back

Co Hoai Nghien's voice paused for a moment. I saw that his knuckles were turning white. He continued reading.

“I hid that copy, not to protect myself.”

"But because the person behind the scenes is still in the court. If they arbitrarily hand over the copy, the first person they will harm will be you."

“Remember, the person who harmed the Co family is not outside the Co family.”

“The people who harmed Tran Bac Quan are not only in the capital.”

Hearing this, my heart turns cold. At this point, the ink suddenly becomes chaotic. Just like when my mother wrote here, her hand was no longer strong enough to hold the pen. Co Hoai Nghien turned to the next page. But the next page is only half left. The other half was torn away. Thanh Chi exclaimed in surprise:

“Why is it missing?”

Co Hoai Nghien opened his notebook. The first page has a few columns of the number of trucks carrying wages in and out. The second page contains a small card. It's not the silver card of Tran Bac Quan in the past. It was cast in black iron, with the word "Wei" engraved on the back. Co Hoai Nghien's face immediately turned cold. Luc Thua Uyen quickly walked in from the yard. As soon as he saw that iron plaque, his voice lowered.

“This is the personal post of the counter-general Wei Heng at the northern border.”

Before the words were finished, a short whistle suddenly sounded outside the hospital wall. Co Hoai Nghien immediately blew out the lamp and pulled me behind him. In the next moment, several cold arrows pierced through the window, pinning them to the wooden pillars in their mother's old room. The moment the light went out, the only thing left in the room was the sound of sharp arrows tearing through the wind. I was pulled behind by Co Hoai Nghien, my back hitting his chest. The scent of pine on his body was overwhelmed by the smell of ash and smoke, but strangely it made my heart gradually stabilize. Thanh Chi cried out in horror, while Luc Thua Uyen drew his knife and blocked it in front of the window. The arrowhead stuck into the wooden post, the arrow's tail still vibrating slightly. Co Hoai Nghien said softly:

“Lie down.”

I immediately held Thanh Chi and sat down with her. The second wave of arrows immediately followed. The window paper was torn to shreds, and the cold wind carried dust and ash into the room. Luc Thua Uyen swung a knife to cut off two arrows, gritted his teeth and said:

“Not an ordinary assassin, his archery skills are similar to those in the army.”

Co Hoai Nghien said:

“Coming from the northern border.”

Luc Thua Uyen's face became even more serious.

“Wei Heng's people?”

Co Hoai Nghien didn't answer, just pushed me half a step back into the dark corner next to the wall.

“Give me the notebook.”

When I gave him the notebook, my fingertips accidentally touched the back of his hand. His hands are very cold. But so steady that it didn't even shake a bit. Outside the hospital wall, a short whistle sounded again. Luc Thua Uyen suddenly shouted softly:

“They are about to rush into the yard.”

As soon as the words ended, several dark shadows overturned the wall and jumped in. The Imperial Guard and the assassins immediately fought in the middle of the field, the sound of swords clashing was so loud that it hurt the eardrums. Mother's old house had been abandoned for many years, dry branches and weeds were trampled underfoot, making loud cracking sounds. I hid in the corner of the wall, clutching the unfinished letter in my hand. The piece of paper was so thin that it seemed like it was the last breath my mother left me. Thanh Chi hugged my arm tightly.

“Miss, them I... will I ever die here?”

I stared at the flickering sword light outside the door.

“No way.”

“Miss...how dare you still say no?”

“My mother spent so much effort hiding these things until today, otherwise I would immediately die as soon as I found them.”

Thanh Chi almost burst into tears.

“If the lady in heaven is sacred, please be sure to show her blessing.”

As soon as her words ended, a deep noise suddenly rang out on the roof. Co Hoai Nghien raised his head. In the next moment, an assassin rushed down from the broken tiles, aiming straight at the letter in my hand. He wasn't aiming for my network. His target is the letter. I quickly backed away, my feet tripped on something, and I almost fell down. Co Hoai Nghien waved his sleeve, a short blade slid out of his palm, pinning it straight into the assassin's shoulder. He groaned softly, but still tried to reach out and grab it. I suddenly felt fierce in my heart, immediately stuffed the letter into my chest, then pulled out the golden hairpin from my hair and stabbed it hard on the back of his hand. The assassin retracted his hand in pain, looking at me with cruel eyes.

"Tham Thi's harshness is truly worthy of death."

Co Hoai Nghien's eyes suddenly turned cold, he threw a strong kick at the opponent's thigh. The assassin knelt down, at that moment Luc Thua Uyen turned around and used the back of his knife to hit him hard in the back of the neck. He fell to the ground, but still clenched his teeth. Co Hoai Nghien squatted down and tore the shirt off his chest. Right in front of the heart, there is a very faint mark of a wolf's head. As soon as Luc Thua Uyen saw it, his voice was terrifyingly deep.

“The old remnants of Wei Heng.”

“Isn't Wei Heng a traitor?”

Luc Thua Uyen replied:

“Three years ago, Tran Bac Quan beheaded him.”

“Dead people still have their old subordinates.”

Co Hoai Nghien stood up.

"The remnants of his army will not appear in the capital for no reason, and it is impossible to know that there are things hidden in the old yard of the Tham family."
