Chapter 6 — Last Hope

Updated 10/08/2026 4 min read

That scream— made everyone freeze. Including the two "doctors" just now.

“What nonsense are you talking about!”

Tran Loi's face immediately changed.

"I'm not lying! Last Wednesday morning, it was you who took out your sister-in-law's ventilator! Ms. Truong saw it with her own eyes!"

I said loudly and clearly every word. Deliberately called Ms. Truong's name. everyone heard it. Tran Loi's eyes for the first time... showed true panic. He didn't expect— I dared to say this right in front of everyone.

"Everyone, don't listen to him talking nonsense! He's hallucinating!"

He still tried to argue.

“Whether or not I say nonsense, the police will know!”

I looked straight at him. His eyes were cold and determined.

“If you don't mind, let the police investigate.”

“Do you dare, Tran Loi?”

He didn't dare. I know well. As long as the police get involved—even without cameras, Ms. Truong's testimony is enough to serve as a clue. The police will follow that. And at that point— everything he did… could be exposed. The uncle who had been silent from the beginning— suddenly spoke up. He is the most vocal person in the family.

“Tran Loi, let it go.”

His face is very unsightly.

“What happens at home should not be exposed to the outside.”

“You two brothers are causing chaos like this, what is the solution?”

“Isn't that embarrassing enough?”

Tran Loi hesitated for a moment— finally let go. The other two "doctors" looked at each other, confused.

“You guys go home first.”

I told them.

“This is a family matter, we handle it ourselves.”

The two nodded and left. A violent wave—temporarily subsided. But I know— it's only temporary. You're not on my side. He is just protecting... the face of this Tran family.

“Tieu Hi, tell me the truth.”

He looked at me, his voice serious.

“What you just said… is it true?”

I nodded.

"Miss Truong told me."

Tran Loi immediately objected.

"I let that janitor off a long time ago! Because she was dissatisfied, she made up a story and wanted to harm me!"

He quickly found a new reason.

“So why did she have to harm you?”

I asked back.

“With no hatred or resentment, why did she have to risk making up such a big story?”

"Who knows what she's thinking! Maybe she was instigated by someone else!"

He glanced at me, his meaning clear.

"That's enough, you two, stop talking."

You interrupted. He looked tired.

“This story has no evidence, talking anymore is useless.”

"This is it. From today, Tieu Hi, you are going out to live. At my sister-in-law's place, don't come over for now."

I immediately turned it back on.

“What is the reason why you don't let me come?”

“Just because I'm your uncle!”

His voice lowered.

"The two of you are now like a barrel of gunpowder, if you touch it, it will explode. Separation is good for everyone."

"As for what you said, I will quietly investigate. If Tran Loi really did something wrong with Luu Van, I absolutely will not tolerate it."

“But if… it's all just speculation, unjustly blaming my brother—”

“Tieu Hi, you also have to take responsibility for what you did today.”

Sounds fair. But in fact - still on Tran Loi's side. He made me move out. Forbid me from going to the hospital. To put it bluntly— it cut off any chance for me to approach my sister-in-law… and collect evidence. As for the so-called “will investigate”— who knows how he will investigate? The most likely outcome—just sinking. become a guy causing trouble and slandering others. A true "crazy" person... in everyone's eyes. But this time— I wasn't panicking anymore. My heart is cold. But my mind— was strangely alert. Because I know… I can't lose. Just one step lost— not just me. And my sister-in-law— will forever be buried in darkness. Don't allow that to happen.

“You're still the perfect husband, right?”

I looked at him and smiled coldly.

“But I'm not going.”

I said every word clearly.

“Unless you transfer my sister-in-law to another hospital so I can take care of her.”

"What should I pay for? Do you have money?"

Tran Loi used money to strangle me again.

“Tieu Hi, stop causing trouble.”

An aunt stepped forward to advise.

“Listen to your uncle, go home and calm down.”

Stand on the side opposite me. I am… completely alone. I know, I have to leave today. The more I get involved, the more disadvantage I have. I nodded. I looked deeply at the hospital bed. Looking at my sister-in-law one last time. Then turned around and looked straight at Tran Loi.

“Tran Loi, remember clearly.”

“This... isn't over yet.”

“I will definitely find evidence and put you in jail.”

After saying that, I turned around and left. Don't turn around. I'm not going home. That so-called “home”— no longer has a place for me. I also have nowhere to go. Work... just now the human resources department called. I'm fired. The reason is that the family situation and mental state are not suitable to continue working. Relatives... consider me crazy.
