Chapter 6
Chapter 6 — Mother-in-law Chooses Ex-Love
Confirming that his ex-lover is worthy to be his daughter-in-law, he said he would apologize." The elevator door opens. I didn't step in. I looked straight at him.
“Every time you gave me promises to clean up the mess, but you never really drew a clear line in the battle with her.”
He was silent. I continued:
“Your mother despises me, that's not surprising. In her eyes, a daughter-in-law is an accessory of the Van family, she should be beautiful, gentle, obedient, know how to give birth, and also help her son flourish.
“Whether or not Tong The Nguyet is willing to be that kind of person is her choice.”
“And I don't.”
Van Thoi Nghien's voice was a bit hoarse: "I never asked you to become that kind of person."
“You don't ask me to change, but you default to letting others ask me.”
After saying this, his face became even paler. No one pressed the elevator until no one pressed it, so I pressed it again. Van Thoi Nghien suddenly spoke up: "You and The Nguyet have nothing." I looked at the jumping numbers on the floor display board: "Whether you two have anything or not is no longer important." He seemed urgent: "She just returned home, the situation at the Tong family is complicated, my mother feels sorry for her. Today I really didn't expect my mother to talk to that extent." I turned to look at him.
"You didn't expect it, or did you not dare to think about it?"
He was stunned.
"You know full well that Pho Lam Chi likes Tong The Nguyet, you also know that your friends assume that I am the latecomer, and you know full well what it means to me that Tong The Nguyet sits on the main stage."
“I don't deal with it, because I enjoy that balance.”
“My mother is satisfied, my old friend is sad and nostalgic, my first love is wet with self-pity, my current lover is generous and tolerant.”
“You stand in the middle, everyone revolves around you.”
He instinctively objected: "I don't have one."
“Then just pretend it doesn't exist.”
I'm too lazy to argue about human psychology. Occupational disease tells me that a person's true intentions are often most clearly expressed through their actions. Van Thoi Nghien's actions are very clear. He felt sorry for me for not being happy, but he also felt sorry for his mother and Tong The Nguyet for being humiliated. So he chose to force me to swallow that anger. The elevator door opened again. This time I walked in. He intended to follow. I raised my hand to block the door.
“Boss Van, keep your distance.”
His eyes darkened: "Do you have to be so exhausted?"
“Yes.”
“Not even given a chance to explain?”
I glanced at him: “Explanations are only for misunderstandings. As for your case, it's called the obvious truth." The elevator door closed. Through the mirror, I saw his face gradually being separated from the outside. Very good. It's like pressing the end button on a project. On the way home, I texted the team's working group.
“Tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., who is free to go with me to Van Thoi Nghien's house to pick up personal belongings? Charge overtime by the hour, plus taxi payment.”
Three seconds later, the chat group exploded. Intern lawyer Tieu Dao: “I'm free! I'm very healthy! Can carry a suitcase!” Lawyer receiving salary Manh Kim: "I'm also free boss, I have 7 years of experience moving house." Secretary A Vu: “I brought seals, inventory lists, and imaging equipment photo.” I looked at the screen and laughed out loud. Very good. I don't have students, but I have many diligent employees. The next day, on time, three people were present at Van Thoi Nghien's villa. Van Thoi Nghien stayed up all night, his eyes were blue. When I opened the door, I saw three people standing behind me holding checklists and cardboard boxes, his face became even more unsightly.
“Do I have to bring outsiders?”
